Why Are All Ssd Hard Drives 2.5

Do 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives have the same SATA port?

Yes, nowadays they uses same cables for power and data transfer(sata cable) while older 2.5″and 3.5″ hard-drive were using different cables parallel ATA connections (also referred as IDE) had different pins 44 and 40 pin connectors respectively.

What does 1TB 5400 RPM + 24 GB SSD mean in a hard drive?

i am trying to buy a laptop, there are different versions of it.

1. 1 TB 5400 RPM + 24 GB SSD
2. 1 TB 5400 RPM + 8 GB SSD
3. 1 TB HDD storage + 8GB SSHD Hybrid

i know #1 is the best one, but i would like to understand why please. and how different it is to number 2, because number 2 is less expensive than #1, so i want to buy #2 instead ONLY if 16 less GB SSD doesn't make that much of difference? but does it?

and i asked a question earlier today about the comparison of 8 GB SSD to 500 GB external hard drive, ppl are saying 8 GB SSD isn't that much at all? then how does that apply to the "1 TB 5400 RPM + 8 GB SSD" laptop? does that mean it's storage capacity isn't much at all? what is RPM and how does it change the hard drive when it's added with 8 GB SSD?

i thought SSD is what speeds up loading time, but is it also memory storage? and what kind of memory? (pictures, music, games, files)?

thanks so much in advance

What are the best hard drives for PS3 and PS4?

Everyone swears by different brands. I personally haven't found any difference between the brands, they all work the same. As for the details, here's what you need to know:

PS4 -- 2.5" SATA II (aka SATA 2 or SATA 3.0Gb/s) 5400 RPM no thicker than 9.5mm.

PS3 -- 2.5" SATA (aka SATA 1 or SATA 1.5Gb/s) 5400 RPM no thicker than 9.5mm.

External can be anything you want. The PS3 uses USB 2.0 (note: USB 3.0 drives don't play well with PS3). PS4 uses USB 3.0. The external MUST be formatted as FAT32 (or exFAT for the PS4). Just know if you want to backup data, you have to get a hard drive the same size or larger as the data you want to backup. Also, the external can ONLY be used for backup and media purposes, nothing else.

NOTE: Even though the PS3 uses SATA and the PS4 uses SATA II, you can actually move the PS4 hard drive to the PS3 and will run at the SATA performance. So you can just get a 2TB for the PS4 and move the original PS4 to the PS3 and it'll work fine.

Are 2.5inch hard drives slower than 3.5inch hard drives?

I already have a SSD(Corsair F60) so please can nobody suggest that i get one, i just need this 2.5inch hdd as a secondary HDD (because my current one slowly breking and wil need a new one soon) as i want to put them in a enclosure together; that is why i want a 2.5inch and not a 3.5inch.

How much voltage does an SSD need?

You'll be okay. The SSDs are meant to be compatible with whatever mechanical disk are compatible with. You worry too much.

Here's how wattage works. voltage x current. All the SSD would need to do is have resistors so to protect from over-voltage or high current.

If my laptop has a SATA hard drive can I replace it with any other SATA hard drive?

There is a series of SATA specs: I, II, and III. (IV is coming.) SATA controllers and devices provide compatibility both ways. However, there is no point in paying extra for a SATA III drive if your computer only has SATA II support. So you need to look up the laptop’s specs on that.Don’t worry about the pictures. Here is the one I’d buy: Amazon.com: HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200 RPM SATA III 32MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0J22423: Computers & Accessories. HGST has a better than average reputation.

Are ssd and hdd interchangeable?

Yes, a laptop can use either an SSD or HDD as long as the connector and the form factor is the same.

Form factor in 99% of cases is 2.5'' (2.5inches)
Connector in modern days is SATA2 for data and SATA power.

Basically as long as it fits in the spot where the SSD used to be and the connectors fit then there's no problems and you just install windows and all your programs on the new drive. SSD's are just a lot faster, reliable and use less power. :P
