Why Are Chickens Magically Appearing In My Farm On Minecraft

Why is Minecraft popular? What is it about Minecraft that keeps people playing long hours day after day?

Lots of great answers here... which is to be expected since anything as successful as  Minecraft has to hit a lot of chords to be so successful: these explanations are far from mutually exclusive. I'd add one humbler reason - one that has served Minecraft very well compared to other projects (Project Spark, for example, and EQ Next) .  It's the forgiveness factor of Minecraft's graphics.  Minecraft is always compared to Legos as a brilliant example of a generative toy - a stimulus to the imagination and a chance for people to express themselves creatively.  A lot of this, I think, stems from the fact that the ceiling in both media is  low: if you set out to create a realistic model of something in  Minecraft or Legos you're never really going to get very close -- and everybody knows it. When you come across a Lego Mt. Rushmore, or a Minecraft Eiffel tower you think 'wow, how clever!' or 'somebody really put in a lot of work.'  If you have any appreciation of how Minecraft works you don't  say  "How come that Eiffel tower is made of huge cubes?" or  "That thing looks like a MacPaint picture from 1989."   Minecraft forcibly diminishes the gap between what the pros and the amateurs can accomplish -- and in the process,  makes things a lot more fun for the amateurs.  If it were a more flexible and faithful visual medium it would come to be dominated by the same kinds of perfectionist graphics you see everywhere else in games.  The clunky forms, goofy animations and huge pixels give everybody who plays the freedom to mess around and build things without the artistic anxieties (and often the tedious detail work) that come with better visuals.   That's an important factor in liberating all of the other kinds of creativity that you see in Minecraft -- if you have a fun idea for a mod or minigame you don't have to put in lots of hi-fidelity graphic work just to attract people's attention or prove your bona-fides.  And even if you're just hacking around on something to show your friend, the general level of unavoidable goofiness means you need fear no judgements. In short, Minecraft is to digital art and game design what Karaoke (and liquor!) is to music: it's license to loosen up and have some fun even if you're not a superstar.

How strong is the player (Steve) in Minecraft?

Steve is ridiculously strong. So, let’s get started. The heaviest item in Minecraft is the Notch Apple. These are made by crafting 8 blocks of gold and an apple. 1 block in Minecraft = 1 cubic meter.1 cubic meter of gold (real-world) = ~42,000 pounds.42,000 x 9 = 378000 poundsSo one Notch apple is equal to roughly 378000 pounds, plus a negligible amount for the apple itself. There’s a type of chest in Minecraft called the Shulker Box.It’s just like a normal chest, but with one important difference. If you destroy it with items inside, it retains the items for when you place it down again.Notch apples can stack up to 64. A shulker box can fit 27 stacks.378000 pounds x 64 = 24192000 pounds24192000 pounds x 27 = 653184000 poundsSo one shulker box could fit 653184000 pounds worth of apples inside. But Steve has an inventory and a hotbar, comprising of a total of 36 slots, plus a left hand.653184000 x 37 = 24167808000 pounds = 12083904 tons.So Steve can hold roughly twelve million tons, with no difference on run speed or jump height. That makes him roughly four million times stronger than the world’s strongest man (by weight lifted). It also means that Steve can lift roughly 1,600 Eiffel Towers and not break a sweat. Or 24 Burj Khalifas. Or almost 2 million African Bush Elephants, the largest land animal in the world. Or almost 78 thousand blue whales.Sources:Notch AppleShulker BoxHow Much Gold Is There In The World ? (Weight of gold)What is the heaviest weight ever lifted by a human being?

Minecraft - Where are doors technically located?

"The center of a village is the centroid / average of all the doors coordinates"

What I am wondering is which point is this referring to? The block below the door, the lower half of the door, or the upper half of the door?

Why don't we see mentally challenged animals?

Retarded should be removed from your vocabulary. My daughter and I rescued two feral kittens from under a guys house, out in rural Virginia.Mine was younger than hers and looked like this picture. (Picture taken from the internet, not mine)I named him Motor because he purred so loudly and it reminded me of a little motor running. This adorable ball of fur was nothing like my daughters cat or any of the several cats I’ve had prior to him. He didn’t seem to understand much.He would go to sit on the couch and sit too close to the edge and tumble onto the floor. It was so cute but then he’d jump up there and do it again and again, never learning how not to fall. This continued into her adult years so no, it wasn’t just a cute kitten thing like I first thought. Also in adulthood, Precious (daughter’s cat) was a great hunter and perfect mouser. Once she was crouched down close to the ground, eyeing a nearby squirrel. She slowly and cautiously made her way within a few feet of the oblivious rodent and was ready to pounce. When all of a sudden, Motor comes trotting by, sees Precious and goes over to greet her, the big neon orange ball that he was. Of course the squirrel sees him and claws its way up the closest tree. Precious pounces on Motor and bats him in his head. He never seemed to understand what he had done wrong because the next day, it happened again. We happened to run into the man whose house we had pulled the kittens out from under and he asked us how the cats were. He was surprised that my daughter’s cat was so tame (she was wild and scratched my daughters arms to pieces when we first got her.)I mentioned the funny stuff that Motor would do and how he was nothing like any other cat I ever had. He then tells us that Motor’s father was his brother.I don’t know if it was inbreeding exactly but Motor was not learning or developing normally for a cat. He was super lovable and a great source of nonstop entertainment though. LOL He LOVED to watch TV and would sit for hours staring at the screen. So undeniably cute.I’m no expert but I would venture a guess that there are likely as many mentally challenged cat/ animals as there are humans. As someone else pointed out, in the wild they would likely die quicker. Motor lived a short life too and died because he didn’t know better. Maybe you’ve never met one, maybe you aren’t observant enough but they are most definitely there.

What things are normal in video games but would be weird if you did them in public?
