Will liberal college professors give a student worse grades if they know they are conservative?
Professors are less inclined to but I have a problem in my tutorials where we break up into smaller groups and work on assignments and reading. My tutor will do her best to present all arguments from a liberal stand point. Example being X war had no justification at all or Y leader was terrible because he did one thing bad. So one day we have to write an essay on something. I won't say what. But we had to talk about whether an event was a good thing or not. I said yes while everyone else said no. I backed up every point, read through half a dozen books and articles, wrote 2100 words on a 2000 word essay (no one else got above 2000), handed it in and got the lowest grade in the group. So a week later I just had to ask why. Well, it turns out I had given the wrong answer. By the way, our whole first lecture was basically the professor telling us how as long as you support your conclusion with evidence then certain events are open to interpretationSo I asked her which bits I got wrong so I could repeat the assignment.“All of it” she said (FYI she is technically a qualified lecturer with a PhD)“But which bits I mean if it's wrong I need to know so I can stop reading from the books”“Look. You got it wrong. You're supposed to explain why it was wrong”The title of the question What were the positive and negative impacts of X in the following time period and do you think overall it was good for the country or not? Please use at least 5 sources (slightly paraphrased)So my classmates who all told me they only used 3 sources and bragged about getting away with a B for it, and from what I could see had bad punctuation and spelling just by a momentary glance as they showed me their grade. Yet I only got a C. I had no constructive criticism or comments on my essay, no real explanation and a low grade. The only explanation left is she didn't agree with the content. None of it was factually incorrect. Half my essay talked about why it was good, the other half why it was bad. There was no bias. And one could easily arrive at either conclusion. Yet, mine was doomed for it had been written by a conservative.Yes you may well get slightly downgraded if you present a liberal professor with an essay on a conservative viewpoint that doesn't fit in with their “facts”, even if you use evidence and cite it every way you can
Why do some conservatives say that schools are pushing a liberal agenda?
Because they are, but the push is usually pretty benign and innocuous. Still, it is there. Let's say a college professor throws a truly liberal idea at his class to make them/force them to think outside of the tight little box they were raised in. Liberal BIAS! That professor made me think that communism was as valid as capitalism! Liberal bias, liberal bias, liberal bias! Creationism is easy but evolution and its' many derivations are more difficult to comprehend. Require a student to expand beyond the writings of Genesis, and you have what? Liberal Bias! Maintain that Islam and Judaism and Christianity are on a par, and make the students compare them and defend them as thought experiments? Liberal bias, liberal bias, liberal bias! Teach the concept of all humans being equal, without regard for birth sexuality, race, nationality, or culture to get the student to expand their own consciousness and learn to appreciate their own values? You guessed it; Liberal bias, once again. Or perhaps Secular progressive bias, to escape the term liberal... it makes no difference at all. Plus there is always a slippery slope. Some university student has the nerve to graduate and open the same dialogue in High School, and now you have a REAL problem! Liberal bias and poisoning the mind of minors! Good parents, of course have nothing to fear. Their children already know right from wrong, and these ideas are only that, ideas. But for some other parents..it's a threat that undermines their core values! They should chill. The kids will all run across these ideas, anyway. The parents may as well just accept that. But I may have a liberal bias! Look out!
Does college turn people into liberals? Will college professors lower your grade when they find out you are a conservative?
Well let's break this down since you have 2 questions. First question, only weak minded people that base their decisions on their feelings and emotions and not facts and logic get turned into leftists. I refuse to bundle all liberals into leftists because there are differences. Most classical liberals I have no issues with and think they do have valid points even if I disagree with them as a conservative. Second question, yes and I have seen that with my own eyes. I learned early on in college whenever I had to take the mandated humanities and liberal arts courses to just tell the professor what they wanted to hear and get my foot out the door with an A for that course. My good friend actively debated a leftist professor we had for Latin American history and that professor would choke and sometimes even come close to tears unable to argue back with facts but my friend suffered as he was given a D for that class but he also got his foot out the door since D's get degrees but still his GPA suffered when he could've had an easier route out of that class by telling the professor what they wanted to hear.
Why are schools so liberal?
I'm in high school and In all my life I've only had a few conservative teachers. Most of my teachers will stop talking about the subject and start talking about how great Obama is, and how glad they are that they voted for him. Once my english teacher brought in this packet about how wrong the death penalty was (even though we were studying the odyssey) most of the students at my school are conservative and the day after the election we all brought signs to school saying "obama's president lets all move to canada eh?" and the teachers FREAKED out gave office referrals, detentions, one even shook in rage. I think the reason most teachers are liberal is because very few conservatives would want to get 4-8 years of education and make 30,000 a year (below the average of a high school graduate)
Why are teachers so liberal?
All of my teachers are openly liberal. Today, my English teacher told me that Obama has done more good than bad in this country. A few days ago, my science teacher told me that Obama is doing an excellent job with tackling the global warming issue. Last week, my social studies teacher blatantly told his students that guns should not be in a person's possession and are the largest contributor to crime.
