Why do Trump supporters defend Trump’s misdeeds by finding fault with Hillary or Obama?
Because they’ve backed themselves into a corner. They were understandably annoyed at enduring months of people saying “Trump could never be elected” and were understandably jubilant when that proved not to be the case. Everyone was predicting a massive Clinton landslide and gloating in advance so Trump supporters had a perfectly reasonable gloat in between November and January.But while that was happening, those who weren’t Trump supporters were saying, he’s not going to get anything done and he’s going to be incompetent.The Trump supporters were right before November, but since January, the anti-Trump brigade has been correct. Trump hasn’t repealed Obamacare, he hasn’t drained any swamps, Mexico isn’t paying for the wall and promise after promise has been abandoned, watered down or blocked by the courts or his own party. Meanwhile Trump has played a hell of a lot of golf (far more than Obama) and staggered from screw up to screw up.The Trump fans elected a dud and they know it.They can’t respond to the attacks by saying “Yeah, sorry about that, we elected a turkey.”, the liberal gloating would be too extreme. They can’t deflect criticisms of Trump’s shortcomings by pointing to his achievements, there haven’t been any. So the only defense they have is to attack the messenger (The “biased liberal media” conspiracy) and to attack what went before and what might have been.It appeases the Trump base, but it doesn’t fool anyone else.

This would be the worst experience of Trump’s life, and it is entirely plausible that his galactic ego would enable him to accept the challenge.Obama is articulate. Trump is virtually unintelligible.Obama is an intelligent man. Trump has average intelligence, at best.Obama has the ability to organize and present cogent arguments. Trump cannot demonstrate linear thought progression.Obama would rely on fact and evidence. Trump would make up his evidence and be forced to defend it, which he could not.Obama would draw from pertinent experience. Trump has no such experience.Obama would make effective, precise points. Trump would pollute the argument with nebulous, inane banter in an effort to disguise his inability to make effective, precise points.Obama would project composure and confidence. Trump would expose his inability to control his emotions.Obama would smile and laugh appropriately. Trump neither smiles nor laughs (have you ever heard him laugh?). He pouts and sneers.Obama would come off the debate as a self-possessed professional. trump would forever be the naked emperor.
