Why Are So Many People Complaining On Y/a About Their Christmas Present

How much to spend on my wife for Christmas?

I overheard her tell a friend that since she saw me give the maid $100 for the holiday, she thinks she'll be getting some $1000 gift. I was thinking closer to $200. I mean, the maid works hard and has 2 children. My wife has never had to want for anything, but in the past few years, other than sleep with me, she doesn't do much else for me throughout the year. Perhaps, I am kind of bitter that she hasn't helped out and acts entitled. I am really torn this year...should I be a Jolly Old St. Nick or a Grinchy Scrooge?

I am ONLY GETTING $4100 IN CHRISTMAS PRESENTS?!?!?!?!?

Listen, darling...
Ok, so I'm sure your dad loves you. And he might not want to get you an iPhone 4 because, well... What phone do you have now? An iPhone 3? If he just recently got you a phone (Less than a year ago), he might not want to spend money on things you already have. There might be no convincing him... And just saying- You should be happy for what you already have. I'm glad you give money to charity and that you volunteer at a soup kitchen! I'm happy that you are smart enough to do that! But you don't need an iPad 2. I didn't even know there was an iPad 2! Didn't they just come out with the 1st iPad about half a year ago? And you don't need a new computer. My computer is like, 3 years old, the Z button barely works, and the shift button is broken... We don't care! We're just glad we have one! And you don't need a 52" tv... My family only has a family tv in our living room. And you don't need all those gift cards...
I understand how you may not be used to getting less that 5000 dollars for Christmas presents... But the economy is starting to get bad... Where ever your dad works... Well, even that place is gonna start loosing some money. You need to start getting used to the fact that you won't be getting everything you ask for. My list is less than $300, and I won't get everything on it.
I'm sorry if people aren't taking you seriously on this. But what did you expect?
I don't think your a brat- you volunteer time and money to help people in need. I just think you are expecting way to much...
Well... Merry Christmas!

What is the most important message that Christmas brings to you?

That we should be grateful for what we have, and start complaining less about life. I see so many people on the streets, begging for money and food, homeless and hopeless people, and still…we stress about little things. Most of us, Quora users, have a roof, bed, shoes, clothes and food on our tables.Instead of complaining that you don’t get this and that for Christmas, try giving others a decent one. Volunteering in a local institution, serving hot meals, giving shelter and a word of love. This will change their Christmas and make you feel useful.

Are Christmas decorations coming out EVEN earlier?

Have you heard the term Christmas in July? Don't laugh but I have and after they sell all the summer clothes before our Summer begins ( I live in PA) and they sell the summer stuff before the 4th of July and I am not kidding you, the very next day there is Winter clothes in our stores. I was at Sams club today and they had POINTSETTIAS- please tell me how they are suppose to survive two months before you need them? I guess since the Christmas clubs are dispersed earlier and earlier each year (now the beginning of Oct.), they want to GET YOUR $$$$ before you spend it on something practical for the time of the year it is, like a RAKE or leaf blower. Your mom takes the cake though, never heard of putting up a tree on thanksgiving-you win on that one--tell me, were there any needles left on the tree by Christmas?

Why should non-Christians and atheist employees get a Christmas bonus?

Being Hindu, I don't want my share of bonus during Christmas.I would rather have it before Durga Puja during September/October. You see, like you I need to purchase clothes and gifts for my family and friends.EDITQuora collapsed my answer. They want my answer to be explicit and generally useful to the Quora population. So, here it goes.I am neither a Christian nor an American. In fact, I have never been to the USA.  So, my perception on the policy of disbursing bonus during Christmas may be useful to many since it is purely from a third party perspective. Withholding bonus from a non-Christian employee during Christmas makes no sense. This extra amount is given in order to meet the additional expenditures that come in handy during Christmas. Toys and gifts to be purchased for family and relatives, a memorable family vacation to Europe to be arranged, the grand party with all friends to be organized. None of these expenses are specifically for upliftment of Christianity. (‘upliftment’ is Indian-English, but I think you get the sense of it) Non Christians too have festivals when they would like to splurge to their hearts content. Expenses shoot up during Eid-ul-Fitr, Diwali, Navroz and and countless other festivals of various religions for exactly the same reasons I have mentioned. They need the money too.Being from West Bengal in India, I would rather have it during Durga Puja. But would certainly not complain if I get it during Christmas.

Is Christmas getting worse each year for you?

I know it seems that way for a Lot of people. Ya gotta realize it’s Not Christmas, it’s Them! Stop buying into the ads, ignore 99% of what you see and hear. Keep a regular routine. I know everyone has shopped for something after work before, just keep in mind it’s IS going to be busier than normal but just mentally prepare yourself for it. It’s ‘getting worse’ because honestly, adults Know it’s gonna be busier but they keep refusing to believe such. So it does end up being busier all the way around = frustration, anger, stress et al. I think some people secretly Love to bitch, moan and complain about it so others ‘take pity’ on how much they are ‘sacrificing themselves’ for the joys of others!

Why didn't I get any presents?

okay well im 15 and a half and i didn't receive any christmas presents this year except an ipod dock for my itouch from my daddy. Is this normal considering that im older and also my birthday is next month on the 16th? I'm not complaining really about gifts because its not what christmas is all about but i thought i would get more than one thing unless my dad has more than the ipod dock for me
