Why are girls SO obsessed with marilyn monroe and audrey hepburn?
It's a fad. There are people out there who have seen all of Marilyn Monroe's movies and might like her (doubtful, as she was a pretty bad actress), but mostly it's because of what she stood for - she was a smart woman, back when it was definitely a "man's world", especially Hollywood, she used what she had (her body, woman manipulation) to work her way to the top. She was powerful, it is about woman empowerment. For Audrey Hepburn, it is usually more about that she was popular, a classic beauty, a good actress, and is known for promoting individuality and being very girly and "girl power"-y for back in the day. You can find several quotes by both women basically about empowering women. So it's a girl power thing. I do think it's dumb when girls have posters of them and haven't seen any of their movies, though, so you're not alone on that.

I see a lot of girls wearing marilyn Monroe shirts or stuff that has her name or face on it. Like yesterday I went to some store and saw 2 different girls getting those big poster of Marilyn on them. And mostly they're young girls like 13 or so. I'm the same age and don't get why. Is it a fashion statement? Cuz where I live everyone wears beatles shirts or some bands like Nirvana or Ramones just to be 'cool' or have just for fun. I mean they're cool and i like them and I'm sure Marilyn was a nice person. She's beautiful too so im not hating. Why do people or girls..say she's their idol? Or inspire them? Wasnt she a sex symbol and people think she was bad? I don't know much of her or her acting. But I'm curious. Haha. Thanks. And don't give me hate/dumb answers.

Well when i was about 12 i first learned of marilyn monroe. i watched a tv special on her and when they talked about her death it peeked my interest because of all the speculation that she was murdered and didn't overdose. so i decided to research her and learn more and that led to my full on obsession with her lol. ive only seen one marilyn monroe movie and ive listened to a couple of songs thats not what i like about her, i love the person she was off of the movie screens. how misunderstood she was and the struggles she went through. i love reading about how she was the 2nd women to form her own production company and stuff like that. so i might not be able to list marilyns songs but i could tell you her childhood dogs name, and all about her different foster families. i could list her favorite drinks, food, movies, music. i know more about her than people who ive actually met lol. i do understand what you mean by a lot of girls idolize her when they know nothing about her , most of them quote her wrong lol, like she never said the whole if you cant handle me at my worse you dont deserve my best lol, but i mean she was beautiful and i think a lot of people idolize that. she is this image of perfection to so many people, and american society in general idolizes her. as far as paris goes different people have different interest. i would love to spend the say shopping there because they have amazing fashion, thats what interests me, i have no desire to look at artwork. so don't judge girls for wanting to go there because its pretty or romantic or the shopping cause thats what they happen to value. getting to see something beautiful such as paris is a great life changing experience, no matter what they reason you are there for. you get to experience a new culture and from that grow as a person.

It's really the drama and scandal that surrounded her life that most are intrigued with....because let's be honest, Monroe wasn't all that good of an actress--and she even said so herself. It was her IMAGE and beautiful pictures (and how she looked in the flesh) that people were crazy over. Monroe was a troubled woman, who died very young and is considered "iconic" by today's standards. It's not hard anymore to be a legend...anything goes in the world of entertainment.

Young girls can easily relate to Marilyn Monroe because despite being famous and beautiful, she suffered terribly from anxiety and self esteem issues. Marilyn Monroe is so appealing to women because while she was the epitome of beauty and glamor, she was also vulnerable and fragile. The biggest star in the world had issues with self esteem, was often paralyzed by fear of not measuring up, not being what people expected her to be, and of disappointing people. Young girls can relate to this, being caught in between wanting to be sexy and glamorous while being painfully insecure. She refused to be categorized, rebelling against being forced to play 'dumb blonde' roles by starting her own production company (unheard of in the 50s) and demanding the respect she thought she deserved, so she is also an inspiration for standing up for herself in a time when women were supposed to look pretty and keep quiet. She was far more complex and accomplished than she was given credit for, and girls find a kinship in that.

Hmmmm Great. Great at what? Singing? no. Acting? no. Dancing? no. Relationships? no. I guess she was the epitome of the girl you want to rescue. Sweet, Needs a protector, beautiful. I THINK it's because even though the public didn't know her personally, you could tell she was trapped in a world where she couldn't be herself and she was suffering. She made you want to rescue her. Men wanted to be her savior and women wanted to be her best friend. Even her looks were crafted by Hollywood.

SHe wasn't that smart. She wasn't naturally pretty - she had a lot of plastic surgery done. She wasn't a natural blonde. Her acting kinda sucks. I seriously don't understand why anyone would pick her to idolize! Oh and she had affairs with married men (JFK and his brother). She used drugs, she had over a dozen abortions...skanky and loose, I don't know what the fuss is about her! I have more respect for Anna Nicole Smith who I find to be the pretty version of Marilyn and was a sweet girl who died prematurely. At least she gave birth twice instead of resorting to abortions and worked hard to have a successful modeling career with Guess. She went on and off diets, was open about things and seemed more real and down to earth imo compared to Marilyn Monroe!
