Why Are Some People Cheap When They Can Afford Not To Be

Why do people buy cars when they can't afford them?

One of the biggest reasons that people will purchase cars that they cannot afford is that people underestimate the cost of ownership of their new vehicles. For one thing, car prices are presented to them in a way that hides the true cost, in the form of a long term loan. Often, dealerships will show you the price of a car in the form of either a monthly, biweekly, or a similar rate. For example, a $40000 car would be presented as $280 a month for 8 years. This price seems much more appealing than the actual $40000 price tag, making the car seem cheaper.Additionally, a $40000 car costs WAY more than $40000 over 8 years due to interest on the loan, insurance, and maintenance. For one thing, the loan one takes on the car will have interest. The rate varies based on ones credit but expect to pay a couple thousand on top of the MSRP of the car. Furthermore, if you want to insure your new car, you have to pay a higher insurance rate as you car costs more to replace. Finally, your new car, with mild use, will definitely need maintenance on something within 8 years. All these things come together to make you car much more than you had anticipated. In no way do I think dealers are at fault, in fact the workers in dealers have to sell cars to make money as many of them work on commission. Rather, the reason people buy cars that are more expensive than they can afford is because they are financially illiterate and assume that their monthly fee is the only cost of owning their new car.

Why would people prefer cheap wine even if they could buy and afford expensive wine?

It’s all a matter of personal taste. I ould be cautious with “cheap” wine but there are great bargains out there that are inexpensive. Cabernets and Merlots come in a wide price range and some of the lesser priced wines can easily be superior to the more expensive vintages. I am not ashamed to offer a guest a glass of Argentinian Merlot that I “stole” for $7.00 bucks if it was good. As the old saying goes “whatever floats your boat”My hometown brew.

How do people afford weddings?

Yes, both. Or they pare down the guest list or economize on some things.
Big expensive weddings are often financed by family, at least partially.
They shouldn't be getting married until they can afford at least some of it themselves, and should *never* use a lot of credit for one day.
There are also a lot of diamond-substitutes, and not all couples even buy engagement rings

Why do people buy expensive things if it is cheaper somewhere else?

Well, interesting question. I can answer by using my wisdom. So in this manner use the word “May be” in the start of each sentence. Some people likes high paid brands. Some people go with there high status. Some people wants to show others. Some people are so rich by there childhood that they don’t know cheap things. Some peoples are crazy for expensive things. They likes when people name them “Lavish” or “King of Good Times”.Some people choose expensive things to satisfy there-selves.Some people believes that expensive things are more better than cheaper in quality. Some people thinks that if they buy cheap things, people will say them poor. They don’t want the word poor. Its 80% depends on mentality & 20% depends on quality too.

Why do people buy cheap clothing that doesn't last, instead of expensive clothes that last a long time?

Oh, many reasons:They are unaware of the differenceThey can’t afford to buy more expensive clothing becauseThey don’t realize that if they put off buying cheap garment A this month, they could by a more durable but twice as expensive garment B the next month which will last twice as long, meaning they have to spend less in the long runThey hoard on-sale items because “you may never know when you need it” and “but it’s such a good deal!”They’ve never thought about itBefore I could work full-time and made decent money, I didn’t really consider anything more than H&M or other stores of similar priced clothing. It was only when I looked into stores that were somewhat more pricey but had higher quality clothing that I stopped going to H&M etc. It took not only the realization, which I had way earlier, but also the means.Consider for example my first year of masters where I had no time to work, I spent all my days either in lectures or in the lab, making no money and only having enough for food and to pay my phone bill. I literally couldn’t buy a new pair of 10 EUR jeans when I fell on my bike and ripped the knee. Incidentally, those 10 EUR jeans have a habit of ripping at the butt after you’ve worn them for a little over half a year. It’s a real predicament. It doesn’t only take realization, it also takes means and the mental ability to put off spending.

Why don't more people in the USA eat organ meat ?

It's cheap. I'm 19 and have zero complaints about eating brain, heart, liver, lungs, and tongue. If friends are raising beef or pigs they will give me the organ meat because they know I'll eat them.
