Why Are The Back Wheels Locked Up On My Rider Mower

Why are the wheels locked on my reel mower?

Lube the gears and be certain that there are no obstructions in the gears or the blades. Keep your fingers out of the reel. My dad lost and index finger in one years ago. If I remember correctly there is a latch that keeps the blade from turning when it is pulled back if it does not disengage when the unit is pushed forward it locks the wheels and the blade.

Why Yardman ride-on mower parking brake is locked?

Almost anything made now is junk. It's riddled with things to prevent some idiot from beheading themselves while they are cutting their toenails.

I often defeat all this junk because it makes using it much easier and less cumbersome.

In my opinion if someone cuts their foot off because they were cutting grass in tennis shoes on a sloping yard in wet grass, they deserve it. Stupid people should pay for their own stupidity.

All that stuff said, there are sometimes locking mechanisms on the handles that keep the tractor locked while you get off it for a minute. If you haven't checked, see if you see any kind of foot actuator, or lever, or some other gizmo that's hidden and hard to notice.

Otherwise I'd recommend you post your question to a site like the one below. I'd guess someone there would know and/or have experience with these mowers. Good luck......hope you get it taken care of.

Why is rear wheel drive better than front wheel drive?

If you limit the answer to performance on a track, rear wheel wins every time. In the British Touring Car championship between lightly modified mid size production cars, the rear wheel drive cars (BMW etc.) had to be given ballast so they would not wipe the floor with the front drivers. All high performance and quality cars are rear wheel drive or four wheel drive (larger Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari). All out and out race cars are rear wheel drive, F1 included. See a pattern? The point is that in rear wheel drive the front wheels only do one thing, steer. Having drive independent of the steered wheels also allows a good driver to use acceleration to “drive out of the corner” and balance the attitude of the car so that it is neither understeering or over steering. Powerful (and poorly designed not so powerful) front wheel drive cars suffer from torque steer, that is the propensity of the car to pull to one side under acceleration out of a corner. This can be reduced by clever and expensive engineering using limited slip differentials, electronic torque vectoring and wheel braking etc. all of which sapp power and speed.A well balanced car should have 50:50 weight distribution over the front and rear wheels to maximise grip, very hard to obtain in a front drive or rear drive rear engine car.The main reason cars are front wheel drive are for packaging reasons, it is much easier to assemble and mount the gear box, engine and front suspension in one lump into a car. It also means tighter packaging and no drive shaft running back taking up space in the passenger compartment.Front wheel drive cars may be better in very slippery conditions (because of the weight over the driven wheels) but four wheel drive is better. Minis won the Monte Carlo Rally but all more modern rally cars are four wheel drive. For bad or inexperienced drivers it may be safer when hitting a corner too fast to plough off understeering into the bushes, though I suspect going off backwards in a spin might be safer. Frankly I prefer a rear wheel drive car with good weight balance and steering so I do not get in this position in the first place.

How do I fix toe out front wheels on Husqvarna riding mower?

First off make sure the tie rods are not bent. If they are, then, using a heavy steel rail or flat concrete slab, turn and gently tap the bars as straight as you can. Refit them and see how much toe out or in there is and adjust them with the threads on the tie rod adjusters. This should not be too hard and you will see where the wheels are in alignment.

Big problem with riding lawn mower?

Ok, this is a long story but please bare with me. The other day I was mowing my lawn when suddenly the mower died out. my initial thought was that i was out of gas. I checked and there was still a little gas so i added some anyway. got back on the mower and absolutely nothing. not even a click. just put a new battery one two weeks before.

So im trying to figure out what went wrong. Checked the oil and oil level was low. so i added oil. this did not help either. the mower was running perfectly fine, no smoke, no rattling nothing. the next day i put a new fuse in. The engine then clicked and jerked. before the fuse it did nothing but still wont start. its kinda acting as if it is locked up. i noticed i put too much oil in. it was about a half an inch past the full mark.

i have since then drained the oil. and tried to see if i could losen the fly wheel by hand but it wont budge. havent put any new oil in yet. was wondering if anyone could help me with any info on what could have caused this. mower ran perfect before it died. the mower is a husqvarna yth 180 with a 15hp kohler engine. please any info would be greatly appreciated. thanks

How can I manually push my riding lawn mower?

I have a Snapper Z1802K zero turn riding lawn mower. I has been broken since last summer and I need to repair it. The problem I am having is manually moving it. I released the parking brake, took it out of gear and raised the deck up. But I can move it manually because the transmission still seems engaged. How can I disengage the trans so I can manually push it?

Parking brake on Toro riding mower seems stuck in on position. Mower starts but will not move.?

It's an automatic. Traction belt is very loose and won't tighten when brake is released (attempted). Release lever for pushing does nothing. Parking brake lever seems to function and lever releases when brake is pushed, but doesn't really release. Should traction belt be tight at all times or is it supposed to loosen when brake is on? This was the first attempt to use mower after winter. I heard there was a brake release lever somewhere at the rear of the machine but can't find it. The model is 71227, serial 220010001.

My Murray riding mower won't turn over. What can be the cause?

We need a bit more information, Mate. This is assuming there are no noises, no clicking, no humming, or what have you, when you turn the key.Shooting in the dark it could be (kind of in order if likelyhood):-Safety contact in the seat or brake/clutch pedal bad/mis-adjusted -Dead battery (check with a volt meter, or just charge the battery and try again if you don't have one)-Corroded battery contact or other faulty connection issue-Bad ignition switch (if you've got an ohmmeter, you can check across the terminals to make sure it's making contact.-Starter solenoid bad. try jumping the starter over by connecting the two big connections on the solenoid together. a crappy wrench or pair of pliers works fine. also, you can try connecting the small terminal on the solenoid to the big cable from the battery to see if the solenoid works. if it does, you know your issue lies with the ignition switch or the wiring attached to it.-Starter bad. The bendix could be hanging up in the engaged position, the motor could have fried a pole which leaves a dead spot if it happens to land in that particular position. try tapping on the starter with a wood block.-Engine locked up. how's the oil? burnt? water in it(milky)? does the crank turn by hand or with a wrench?

Riding lawn mower in neutral but won't roll?

This has been standing for quite some time, I should imagine. Possibly the brake has rusted on. You will have to get underneath and free the brake. Possibly the drive shaft has seized up, too.
We really need to see a picture of what it is like underneath.

Ridding lawn Mower, ran out of gas, now it will not start. Any ideas ?

Put diesel in it. From what I've found, if you put a different fuel type in, engines tend to react differently. So if it's not starting, fill the tank with diesel and try starting it up. If it doesn't work, there's no harm done anyways.
