Is the Stratosphere really in that bad of an area in Las Vegas?

It really is that bad.

I've been visiting the Stratosphere since it was Bob Stupak's Vegas World. I've walked from the strip to the Stratosphere, to downtown and back, dozens of times. As soon as you cross Sahara and pass the Bonanza gift shop you hit panhandlers, drug dealers, prostitutes and pimps. There's less of that on the east side of Las Vegas Blvd. but it's still not going to be comfortable for a woman who's by herself.

There are about two dozen hotels to choose from in between Mandalay Bay and Encore, stay on that part of the strip.

What is the difference between "fashion jewelry" and "fine jewelry"?

That's simple. It is defined by the metal. Jewelry made with (genuine) gold, platinum, silver (etc). = Fine Jewelry. Jewelry made with anything else - brass, copper, bronze, aluminum, (etc, etc) or Base Metal (which is a combo of different metals), plated metals, leather, fabrics (etc).   = Fashion Jewelry. A 14kt gold ring with genuine Turquoise cabochon is classified as Fine Jewelry. A gold plated Brass ring with that same genuine Turquoise cabochon is classified as Fashion Jewelry. ----------------------------------------Hand-knotted Freshwater Pearls with a 14kt clasp is classified as Fine Jewelry. Hand-knotted Freshwater Pearls with a gold-plated brass clasp is classified as Fashion Jewelry. This means that both the ring & necklace (pictures above) could either be Fashion Jewelry or Fine Jewelry. You now have to look for the precious metal hallmark (e.g. 14k imprint) to confirm which one it is. The term "Costume Jewelry" is passé, and has not been used in decades. I asked a few older professional peers, and it seems this was a term used pre-1990, when imported Fashion Jewelry (usually from Taiwan), was not the caliber it is today. BTW Fashion Jewelry metal can be electroplated (and as permanent as flatware) or such intensive plating that it never changes. Since the core metal is still a non-precious metal. It is still classified as Fashion Jewelry. As a Private Label manufacturer I can tell you PRICE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. Many of the top, luxury designer jewelry is Fashion Jewelry.  I'm not naming names, but the BEST French, Italian & US design houses.  These can range in the several hundred to a couple of thousands of dollars.  These are a different category - Designer Jewelry. However, they are still technically Fashion Jewelry. For the most part, no intrinsic value... except the brand name. BTW I'm going by professional definitions. (NOT SPECULATION). This is the info that is put on Spec Sheets so that it can pass not only QA, but the Independent Labs which ensure that we are compliant with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) and California’s Proposition 65.

What does 925 stamped on gold mean?

“925” stamped on gold jewelry means that the item of jewelry has an underlying metal core of Sterling Silver. The “925” refers to the level of silver purity = 92.5% pure silver. The outer layer of jewelry is merely gold-plated. If you have an item of jewelry that appears gold on the outside but is stamped with “925” it is called gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may), which is the name used to describe silver jewelry coated in a thin outer layer of gold.If you want gold jewelry and not silver jewelry, then look for a gold hallmark:If you want silver jewelry and not gold jewelry then look for a silver hallmark, seen in the chart below. Here are some common types of silver jewelry:Hope this helps!
