Why Are There So Many Music

Why are there so many music "elitist" snobs?

Just because someone doesn't like your type or music doesn't mean you have to treat them like a 5 year old. This is especially frequent among young and some "of the generation" people 60/70/80's music. Yes I do enjoy some of the music from that era but mostly the reggae artists. Yes I do like some of the rock bands too but not really that much. I don't like the opera sound in some of the singers so that's why I kind of shy away from it. But hey some people like it and if that makes them happy, who cares then? I'm not listening to it so why does it matter? It's like food or movies. Some like Italian, French, and sea food. But really none is superior to others. And then there are some who say french food is superior to other food and only french food is real food. Why do music elitist a get so worked up on the type of music they deem "listenable"

Why are there so many haters of rock music?

I don't think they hate Rock music, alot of people who like pop also like some rock but don't realise it.

People confuse Rock music with Emo music, they think it is all screaming and chugging power chords like metalcore.

In my school recently I had to do a presentation about music in one of my classes for an assessment, I spoke about Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Rolling Stones and a couple others, and people who used to call me emo (don't ask me why my hair ain't black, I'm quite happy and listen to a lot of blues and Rock & Roll like Duane Eddy) but they don't say that now that they recognise the music I like, I said that all of the bands I've spoken about today are probably on a CD rack somewhere in their house belonging to their dad.

Even my friends don't recognise good rock musicians and they claim to like rock, for example I was in ASDA the other day and I bought a Rod Stewart album and all of my friends thought must secretly be a 70 year old woman, not realising that Rod Stewart is a legend of Rock.

And now my friends call me Mr. Classic Rock (because they think that is the only form of Rock from the 60's and 70's)

Why is it that so many music videos from 10+ years ago were uploaded to YouTube in mid-2009?

I get in moods to listen to pop, hip hop, rap, country, rock, and so forth, and many of the songs I feel like hearing are from 10+ years ago. It looks like the music videos for those songs were all uploaded in mid-2009, but YouTube was founded in 2005. Did the music industry change its marketing in 2009 and decide to upload all kinds of music videos that year or something? Why 2009?

Why are there so many music genres now when most overlap and fit perfectly into the older genres? Trap/bounce/etc. are nothing new, just new names.

You are exactly right in many respects.I find music these days has become saturated with obscure or weirdly specific names that hold no other purpose than to provide really specific and accurate description of the music.Such as ‘nu pirate folk metal’, ‘Terrorcore’, ‘grind-hop’, ‘chap-hop’ or ‘casiocore’ or ‘Miami house’… You get the picture.I find the titles unappealing and almost comical. They seek to take a form of music and box it into a really specific category. Fact is, many of these obscure genres share almost 99 percent of their characteristics with their original genre. The obsession with naming these weird styles has probably come with the advent of digital music though since when you upload online you have the option of choosing the most random or obscure name for your genre whereas before, when you released music it was normally beyond your control. If you told your label that you wanted it to be labelled as ‘Miami Grindtech’ music then they would probably laugh and tell you it’s too obscure. In marketing it’s best to go for genre names that people aren’t going to be apprehensive about when choosing what to buy. Labelling down to the specific details is really pedantic.I suppose you could argue that it becomes a selling point in it’s own right. If you tell people you’ve invented a new genre then they’d probably listen to it - though you have to keep producing the same music to get people hooked. People aren’t going to buy into the new ‘neo aquatic synthpop’ genre unless they can find more of it.I agree though, it is pedantic and it’s really quite limiting to your music. It may help make your music easier to search on the internet because it has a specific genre title but then if it’s obscure anyway no one is going to be searching it…

If smoking weed is dangerouse then why is there so many music artists saying otherwise?

cypress hill. kottonmouth kings. basically every rapper i can think of. limp bizkit. mac miller chris webby all advertise marijuana in a good way in there music. but many people say its dangerouse.

seriously is it dangerouse or not and if it is dangerouse then why does everyone thinks its safe? i know so many people that smoke it

Why are so many musicians best music made while on drugs?

As animals, human beings are constantly second guessing themselves. I would assume that at some point in our evolution we needed to be on the look out for predetors or other humans. Since our brain is designed with the interrupt, a musician has a difficult time maintaining a state of flow when they are composing something. Some drugs can help the brain stop the interrupt process and keep the musician focused on the emotion or idea that they are putting into music using their talent. As long as they are comfortable and can maintain that flow state they can create complex iterations of their melody and more deeply think about poetry because they aren't constrained by survival logic or interrupts. Another idea that I had was that musicians on drugs more deeply connect with death and mortality as a result of a drug. Because to take an illegal drug means that you have very little concern for your own health or well being, and are more concerned with the moment. In that moment, you more fully realize mortality and what it means to be human.Art can only be understood by a mortal being. That's the beauty of seeing / hearing something only once.  If you heard it an infinite amount of times it would not be special. Drugs emphasize mortality because of their time based effects, and their toll on your own mortality.
