The children always smile really big, but the older generations, like the grandparents and aunts or uncles I have never seen smile.
In my school all of the kids smile a lot period. Maybe it is a generational thing.

No, I am not trying to stereotype anyone. I work with, am friends with, and have several people from Asian descent in my family. Why do people always assume racism first?

Why don't Korean students smile in school photos?

Ha!..Interesting question! I teach at a Korean high school, and all of the pictures I have with them are of me smiling with a lot of poker faced kids beside me.

Trust me though, the minute they get their cell phone cameras in their hands the smiles come out. A lot of it has to do with respect I've been told. When they are having their picture taken by someone for a purpose, they tend to present themselves very formally, as they do in their manners and speech also. When it is just them with their friends they will smile a lot more, and give the 'v' symbol with their fingers because they know that the pictures are only going on 'naver-blogspot' or some other such site.

Do I necessarily have to smile when I have pictures taken by school-hired photographers? Why does it feel like they are forcing me to smile while taking my picture when I clearly don't like having my photo taken?

You can grin a little.I think my smile doesn’t look very natural (some people can do that and it looks absolutely natural - but not me.)

Why are we told not to smile for passport photos?

It's because either a machine or a human will need to compare your photo with your face at entry to your destination. Realistically, nobody smiles getting off a plane after 12 hours in cattle class, or when questioned at a border.Your passport should look like you do when you talk to a customs officer and they shouldn't be forced to ask a thousand people a day to smile when they don't want to.Here is the UK government's guideline set for passport photos. These are rigidly enforced.More information is available here:Rules for passport photosA neutral, relaxed expression also provides an easier match if the person concerned is unconcious or dead. It doesn't happen often but the possibility exists that this may one day be necessary.

Can you smile in your driver's license photo in Texas?

Not sure how photo recognition would be interfered with. I mean we can smile in PA, and they try to get you to, and our pics get sent to the Capital before you get your license as they use photo recognition software. Anyway though back to the point, I'd have to somewhat agree against smiling. Honestly when a cop pulls you over and asks for your license are you going to be smiling? If you are being carded do you expect to flash a big ole grin? My point is that you should try to be more realistic in the pic and go with how you'd look normally, or expect to look when you have to show the pic.

Why is that that Black people don't smile when they get their picture taken.?

I notice this we were in line to get our prom picture taken and there were 3 black couples in front of us. And the photographer asked them to smile and they just didn't smile not even a grim. Why is that?
