Why Are We Supporting Other Countries

Patriotism is supporting your country at all times and supporting your government when they deserve it. Agree?

Mark Twain said it and now Obama has brought it back up.

The government is FOR the people meaning this country is OURS and not THEIRS and even Abraham Lincoln said if the government is making its citizens weary then the citizens should stand up.

So what are your thoughts on this quote?

Why do some people support football clubs from other countries?

There can be various reasons why people support other foreign clubs than their local teams.Let me tell you the answer through my story:I’m a hardcore football fanatic. I’ve been supporting Arsenal since 2006. I live in Bengaluru, India. The time I started following football, Indian football was almost non-existent due to the lack of marketing and support from the government, lack of funds and various other problems. ( Again this is my POV, at that time. Although Indian football was very popular in other states. )The Indian team never played in my place, or even if they did, it wasn’t advertised well. The local leagues were very well present, but it didn't really garner mainstream support. So, I had no other choice but to follow the well marketed, advertised European football.Let’s fast forward to 2013.Enter: Bengaluru FCThe introduction of the high profile, well marketed, perfectly strategised football club in India’s top tier football league.BFC filled the void of my ‘Home club’.Now, week-in week-out, I go to the stadium and support my club.I know, the standard of football isn’t up to the European standards; but hey! It’s my country, my city and my club. This club puts me out on the map. It represents me.And trust me, Saturday evenings have never been better. Here you go, we do this every week. These are just a couple magical moments. And when the Indian National Team plays here-Boom!Biggest banner unveiled in Asian football history!Things are different now. And you know what, It’s just the beginning.EDIT- I understand you’re from Singapore. Singapore does have a decent football scene. You should go out and support your local club.A Singaporean club, Tampines Rovers will be playing Bengaluru FC in the AFC cup quarter final in September 3rd week. There’ll be two legs and BFC will play in Singapore. I urge you to go support Tampines. Come back in September, and tell me about your experience. Good Luck!

Why do Indians have to support other countries in the FIFA World Cup?

thanks for A2A.FIFA World cup is the biggest sporting event on the planet after Olympics. its impossible for anyone to deprive themselves from watching it. Honestly, supporting a country is only a way of getting involved, there is nothing serious about it like supporting a club. it gives them something to look forward to. you can say most of them are supporting teams blindly. selection of which team to support mostly depends on their favorite players like Messi and Ronaldo playing for that team, or they support team with the highest probability of winning the world cup.i know a couple of guys who were supporting Spain in the beginning, when Spain got eliminated they started supporting Brazil or Germany.the point is if you have to enjoy this nail biting competition till the final with friends whose teams are qualified for the next rounds, it'd better if you keep supporting teams till the end.

Why does the USA interfere in other countries?

An excellent question. I rather wish we wouldn’t.In my humble opinion, it’s the fault of the Holocaust. That taught a generation of Americans that terrible things happen when we stick our heads in the sand and ignore problems overseas.I also blame Japan and Germany, who were arguably “better” as a result of American intervention. That gave us the woefully mistaken impression that we could — in the words of JFK — “bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”Then came Vietnam. There are a lot of reasons for that debacle, the fear of communism perhaps foremost among them. But it should have taught us that sometimes our intervention makes things worse instead of better. We didn’t learn the lesson. And continue to skip class.I think our leaders honestly believe we intervene not for our own benefit, but to help the downtrodden. And it is hard to look at the devastation in Aleppo and say “not our problem” before turning away. And while we rarely admit it, our own national interests are right up there on the Motivations list, as shown by the Iraqi oil that Trump now wants to “take” as payment for destroying that country. But look at what happened when Obama tried to stay out of conflicts in the Middle East because he understood our chances of actually improving things were negligible. He was pilloried for showing weakness. The destruction in Syria was said to be his fault, a result of “lack of leadership”. The American public simply isn’t willing to hear “yes, it’s a horrible situation, but we can’t fix it so let’s stay the hell out.”They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. That pretty much describes US foreign policy since 1945.

Why should countries help each other?

Easy answer is it helps themselves in the long run.Economic stability and success, leads(normally) to political stability, less crime, and more trade. All of which helps the helper country by boosting their economy and lessening the threat of political instability and lowering overall crime.More countries being stable and prosperous is beneficial to everyone. That is the backbone to US foreign policy, and the accusations by dictators/demagogues/strongmen leaders of meddling in their internal political affairs. An easy example is the billions in aid given to Nigeria in the past. In the long run now, Nigeria is becoming an economic powerhouse, and every prosperous Nigerian is a potential consumer of American goods and services. Helping out Nigeria in the past has become helping out ourselves (potentially now).

Is it okay to not support one's own country in sporting events?

Yup.. Its all right.. A sports is an event that brings the whole world united.. And if the support is just limited upto sports, it is absolutely fine.. You actually can't support INDIA in football.. If you watch football, obviously you will have a choice.. And according to me, there's nothing wrong to select another team instead of your own country..  Coz we all have different categories amd choices for selection and we select a team which mostly satisfies our choices.. Like suppose in cricket, you may love a team with strong batting, bowling, fielding, and players in it.. You will love a team if your favourite playes is in it.. But on nationality, the country comes first..

Why do liberals often support dictators in foreign countries?

whereas Bush was actively helped by the dictators in kyrgyzstan and turkmenistan when invading iraq.
and by the qataris, saudis and kuwaitis in iraq.
nixon helped pinochet into power in chile
reagan helped the governments of el salvador and nicaragua terrorise their populations.

So the conseratives completely innocent then...

Why do we support the evil government of China?

Can you say money?

They send us cheap goods mande cheaply and they buy tons of our treasuries to finance our ever growing debt. In return, we fuss and posture about freedom and slave wages/workers, then we keep the status quo. The death nell was when we granted them most favored nation trade status--

Besides, the US is no angel-- we've been complicit in the killing of 600k Iraqis...

Best way to bring down a commie regime is throw capitalism at them. Look at the USSR....
