Why do people say Messi is better than Ronaldo?
If you can't see Messi's playmaking ability you truley are blind to football. Messi has the ability to change a game with his ability to run with the ball but also his ability to move the ball. Cristiano isn't in the same category when it comes to passing and Messi's understanding is so brilliant that he can bring others into game just as he can control the game by himself. When was the last time you saw Cristiano doing that for his team mates? Never. The odd few crosses and assists doesn't do justice to the playmaking approach Messi has in his game along with the out and out goal scoring approach he possess also. I've followed Cristiano since he was a 17 year old debuting for United and been a massive fan of him since then. I have no doubt that he is at a similar level to Messi, but Messi does take it as an overall better footballer. He has proven that. His international form shouldn't matter as Cristiano's international form isn't that great either, nor is Rooney's, nor is Tevez's etc. While others like Podolski and Klose have great international forms but don't replicate that for their clubs. None of that matters. Facts are facts and Messi dominates that with 18 assists last season and 31 goals in La Liga. He's also already on 7 assists for this season and joint top scorer with Cristiano with 17 goals in La Liga 2011/12. That proves how Cristiano is the better goal scorer in many respects, but Messi is overall the more influential player. Also on the fact that Messi steps up in the bigger games while Cristiano fails to do so consistently. But who I would rather have in my team is another story.. I'll happily take Cristiano over Messi. But that doesn't mean he's the better footballer.
Yes, the Argentina team is better than the Portugal team in the date as in Argentina the squad are really full of world class players and plays in the top European leagues though Portugal has Ronaldo who is a Beast and one of the top defender Pepe but remaining other players are good but not as good as argentina players. The argentina squad includes the GOAT MESSI, Aguero, Higuain, Dybala, Di Maria, Romero, Otamendi, Pastore, Mascherano, Zabaleta, Mussachio, Garay, Biglia, Banega, Pereyra, Rojo, Lavezzi, etc. while the portugal team has Ronaldo, Pepe, Bruno, bernardo Silva, Quaresma, Moutinho, etc.But at last the overall rating of the squad and the team management shows that Argentina is better than Portugal.
Some say that they are not comparable because of their different playing style and playing positions. Legendary footballers will never say who is better because they want to be politically correct; like Pele who once said Ronaldo and then Messi.But can CR7 dribble past 6 players and put the ball in the net?Can he create chances as Messi does?Can he provide assists or passes like Messi?He is a great goalscorer who can score goals when he is fed. But he is not capable of scoring goals with individual brilliancy like Leo.Ronaldo has some better attributes like heading, physique, use of both feet; but Messi has more impact over the game as he comes deep in the midfield and takes the ball that Ronaldo rarely does. Messi’s vision, passing and assists are legendary. BC he is an all around talent. For a young guy he is an amazing professional loved by all. He is humble, mature, selfless, team player, who plays with his heart on his sleeve. C. Ronaldo has a horrible attitude that will hold him back unless he grows up. It's sad bc in Spain he will go backwards bc they will feed his ego instead of correcting it. He will be no match for Messi. I think Ronaldo is as good as he is going to get, whereas Messi will continue to get better and better and outshine him by miles. And Messi is NOT afraid of Real! Real won't be winning championships for many years so RM fans need to get a clue. Barca are the stars of Spain right now. There is nothing for Messi to fear. The "team" of Barca will tear apart the "egos" of Real!

Messi: Pace and Skill Ronaldo: Pace, Skill, Headers, Free-Kick Ability Although Messi's dribbling might resemble better, he plays in Spain, as we all know, attackers are marked better in England and are given less space. Messi is too short for headers (don't bring up the Arsenal goal here, my grandma could of scored that, that was just a big mistake of the Arsenal defenders) and he has shown that he can't take a decent free kick if he plays with Argentina while Ronaldo's free kick ability is unquestioned. Ronaldo has succeeded in three leagues, Portugal, England and Spain (Pichichi) and we all know Messi is only that great because he has the 2 best midfielders of the world at the moment behind him (Xavi's and Iniesta's talents are unquestionable and Xavi is a true genius) while Messi has only succeeded in Spain, a more technical competition. For those reasons, I think the barca-bias Messi-fanboys can't really say Messi is better just because he can display some tricks. If Messi truely wants to become great, he must go to England and prove himself (I don't really doubt that he would succeed there, but until he does it, he is not the best) And as a sidenote, Ronaldo shines with Portugal while Messi can't shine with Argentina. And if you compare Portugal with Argentina, there is little doubt which country has the better players.... (Argentina has like 6-7 great attackers while Portugal has always struggled finding a good number 9.)

I think Messi is more talented and skillful when it comes to ball control. However, I think Messi has recorded success only in Barcelona. Outside Barcelona, for instance when playing for the Argentinian national team, Messi simply can’t function. He plays with a lot of stress, and has failed time and again to replicate same level at Barcelona when playing for Argentina.Cristiano Ronaldo has recorded success at Manchester United, Read Madrid, Portugal National Team, and is currently very successful with Juventus. For these reasons, I think Cristiano Ronaldo is better overall and a more complete and versatile player than Messi.

You know I think we will be OK. I understand what you are saying but the other side is take away everyone else's assists and sacrifice for Ronaldo, take away Ronaldo's penalty kicks (which racked up a fair few easy free goals to his stats) and how does it look then ? Its a team effort. Ronaldo did not do anything on his own and had the benefit of a team built around him. Others will step up and shine now. It may take some adjusting but I never under estimate what my Red Devils can do when they dig deep. He may have done many good things but for all that, he did many bad things too. He gave up a lot of possession because he was show boating or selfish and when he did he would stand there and sulk instead of turning around and trying to regain that lost possession. He doesn't like to defend and gets lazy there too. Others may not attack as effectively to get 40+ goals but they will attack adequately and also will probably be better in the area's he lacks in.
It has to be Cristiano. For all those who say that Higuain, Di Maria and others perform poorly for their national team & this hampers Messi, it doesn’t hide the fact that in the Portugal National team, there are no players even potentially as good as Messi’s team mates, leave alone the performance. Also bare in mind, that while comparing teammates of National Team, their performance, etc., we should consider the whole time Messi or Cristiano have been part of the national team, not just the past two tournaments or years. And as such, Messi has always had the better team to play in, though they might not have had the best tactics. Still Portugal managed to reach the semis in 2012 & won it in 2016,only because of Ronaldo who was their best player & goal scorer. And don’t forget the qualifying campaigns for the 2012 & 2016 Euro plus the 2014 World Cup. Everytime, there was only one player that kept Portugal alive & moving ahead - Ronaldo. Now, all these performances can’t just be ignored, because Ronaldo didn’t play in the final of Euro 2016 & his team won it. Even Argentina won 2–1 against Chile (without Messi), in the group stage of the same Copa America, that they lost against Chile in the final (with Messi). Ronaldo has been carrying Portugal since long (around 2008) as their only superstar player. Granted, the current crop of players in Portugal National Team are really promising, still they wouldn’t have been in the finals if not for Cristiano’s part in it, both as a player and a leader. Cristiano didn’t completely carry Portugal on his back in Euro 2016, but he played a major & the most important part in it, along with Pepe. Cristiano’s 2016 wasn’t Maradona’s 1986, but that isn’t the only way you can be a great player of the National Team, that is ‘The Peak’!Additionally, how many iconic Leo Messi performances can we remember in an Argentine Shirt? He has numerous ones for Barcelona. And Cristiano has such iconic performances for Portugal, like the qualifier playoff vs Sweden & more.If Messi can’t win a title with this Argentina team, how difficult could it have been with the Portugal National Team. Conversely, Cristiano’s chances of winning a title with the National Team increases multi fold with the Argentina Team, considering his performances with his own National Team.Cristiano Ronaldo IS the better player in national team.
