How many of you miss Yahoo chat rooms? Do you feel that it should start again?
I have quite a few friends that miss Yahoo AND MSN. We used both, a lot. After Yahoo was shut down, it was a huge blow to us, but thankfully all the friends we made during those times were also on other social networks where we had also connected on.I definitely feel that it should start again, but I’m not sure how popular they would even be, or if it would be worth it for Yahoo! to open them again.I’ve recently started using Gather Online and it does a great job at replicating that same experience I had on Yahoo and MSN those many years ago.
What happened to Yahoo Chat Rooms?
Yahoo closed their chatrooms a long time ago. Whether it was because they weren’t safe as they stated, or because they were not safe, remains unknown.But it isn’t just Yahoo that shut down chatrooms. This is simply because chatrooms as a concept have been losing popularity due to the growing social media/network popularity like facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.However, I do stil believe that chatrooms can make a comeback IF done properly, something like Gather Online is trying to achieve. They’re trying a mix of chatrooms/social media features and I do believe that it will work out for them in the long run.

Thank you both for answering but i meant only chat rooms where people can message in real time.I honestly hate the yahoo answers and the quality is worse than here.Yahoo cancelled all chat rooms due to pedophiles I was told and all it needed was an 18 or older rule and problem solved.Sorry my question was not more clear.I actually would use yahoo to discuss leading edge physics in real time and as a social life as I was a single parent and could never leave the house.I also found for survivors of abuse, anonymous typing allowed some people to finally express themselves.Being allowed fake names and pictures meant one got second chances at finding themselves on line.Denise this is for you :)Everyone wants to discuss relationships I found. Basically, yes. There was nothing quite like it back in the day, and many of us have spent countless nights and days chatting to strangers there. Heck, I met a few of my long-time, best friends online through Yahoo. Then, I switched to MSN, after which there was AOL, and now I use Gather Online that’s trying to recreate that same feeling we had back with Yahoo while “modernizing” the experience.But yeah, I doubt anything will be able to recreate that same feeling for me, just like how no game will be able to recreate what I felt when I first played Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
