How has Nashville, a small market in the Bible Belt, been able to hold onto the NHL's Nashville Predators for so long?

Now that the Predators are on the way to their first Stanley Cup playoff, this question is more relevant than ever.There’s a great in-depth story that just came out on Yahoo Sports that goes into the details of how Nashville has grown into a solid hockey town: Nashville is a hockey town, so Canada was totally wrong.To quote the author, Greg Wyshynski:“you also need an identity. ... She pointed out that the Predators became an exciting and interesting point of conversation for her friends (and by extension, I gather, most Nashville women) when Carrie Underwood, who is widely and deeply loved here, started to date Mike Fisher, captain of the Predators. When they married, it was as big a deal to her friends as Kate Middleton marrying Prince William. =^) Those interested solely in the social scene in Nashville now had a new channel for their interests - the Predators. Now, both dad and mom cared a lot about the team.
