Why Did Declining Terms Of Trade In Southern Countries Prompt Strategies Of Industrialization

How did the Industrial Revolution lead to Imperialism?

There’s Correlation and Coincidence rather than any Connection. If we define European Imperialism as say, the Europeans invading and occupying territory in Asian nations for entirely mercantile reasons, then that preceded the Industrial Revolution. The British Raj is officially said to “begin” with victory at the Battle of Plassey in 1757 by the East India Company. The EITC was a mercantile corporation rather than an industrial one. They were there for exclusive control and monopoly of Indian goods and products for the global market. And they played a similar role in trying to open up China. The Industrial Revolution didn’t quite take off when this happened. It had early beginnings sure but there was no real connection. The intersections between the Industrial Revolution and Imperialism happened at the end of the decade, where industrial production was creating a surplus of goods that the English needed to sell at good prices to maximize profits. And they sought to sell their goods internationally, where they faced competition from rival empires and from local competitions. That led to the rise of what the British call “Free Trade” and what Germans and others consider to be very much “England’s Freedom to Trade”.The Industrial Revolution is more an overall event than something with a plot and goal.

How did the British colonize India?

Britain came in the 1600s (with Sir Thomas Roe) when India was under the rule of Jehangir. India was a stronger nation back then. So, the British were contended to be traders. However, Nadir Shah's (of Iran) invasion of India in 1738, changed the picture (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nad...). The Mughal rulers were badly defeated and that signalled to the world that India was very weak. The East India Company immediately latched on and made use of the weakness. The timing was key. India had plenty of infighting. For instance, Tipu Sultan, who offered ferocious resistance against the Brits was undermined by our own rulers (Nizam of Hyderabad and Marathas) who surrounded the Mysore kingdom when British attacked him. The Marathas duly paid the price for the friendship with the devil with the Anglo-Maratha war in which they were badly defeated. British troops were well organized and used superior tactical & strategic skills on the warfield. French revolution and later the defeat of Napolean in 1815, distract the French from expanding their control in India. The British used this opportunity to kick out the other colonial powers from India.By the 18th century, India was under a crisis. The Aurangzeb's rule was quite bitter for non-Muslims and the Hindus were tired of Islamic rule. This gave rise to many Hindu kings (such as the Marathas). The East India Company rightly used this period to increase the divisions with their divide and rule policy. India had a very weak navy. Unlike islands like Britain or Japan, we didn't have enough incentives to build a strong navy. Naval superiority helped the British to gain and build the critical ports of India (Bombay, Madras, Calcutta) and build the empire from there. Britian was entering the age of industrial revolution at around the same time (1750) when Indian empires were weakened. The economic strength from industrial revolution gave the Brits an upper hand.

How did Africans resist European imperialism?

Africans have generally done three things:They have resisted invasion by force of arms like they did in Matabeleland in Zimbabwe against the British, how ever this was often a miss match as the Europeans had more and better guns against spears and muskets.Once occupied especially in Sub Saharan Africa they have either withdrawn their labour from the colonialists.Refused to pay colonial head/hut tax, this was a tax system designed to force Africans who lived off the land into the cash economy controlled by the colonialists. These actions have generally lead to uprisings as a result of brutal colonial repression as a result. In the 1900s Africans began colonial wars of liberation seeking national self determination. From the 1960s onwards many of these were pseudo Socialist or Marxist in character and funded by the USSR/CCCP with elements form: Cuba, China and North Korea. The history of Africa 1790 to - 1995 is littered with bloody colonial rebellions.Against the Germans try:The Maji Maji uprising in German TanganyikaThe Herero Genocide in German South West AfricaAgainst the French there are too many to name but start with across North Africa but further south try:1916 & 1962 Tuareg UprisingKongo War Rebellion in the CAR1896 and 1947 The Madagascar UprisingsAgainst the Italians try the first Italo Ethiopian Wars 1895 the second Italo Ethiopian War in 1935 and the resistance in ww2 which lead to the defeat of the Italians in 1942.Against the British this is a long long long long list. The most famous would be the defeat by the Zulus at IshwandalaSecond would be one where the British behaved really badly the Mau Mau uprisingThe third most famous would be the Mahdi Uprisings in Somalia & Sudanof which there were severalForth would be the Egyptian uprisingThere were numerous revolts and rebellions in Nigeria & Ghana as well as in Rhodesia/Zimabwe and John Chelembi in 1915 Malawi and resistance to British Rule from 1959–1964Against Portugal there was incidental rebellion against the brutality of Portuguese rule or their tolerance of slavery over 100s of years culminating in wars of liberation in the 1960s and 70s most notably in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea BissauThe Bambatha Rebellion in South Africa in 1905The war of liberation in Namibia by SWAPO ending in the mid 1990s

What is a good foreign policy dealing with mexico?

Since Mexico does not want to help alleviate the problem, I think that we should sanction Mexico first of all. Then we should make it illegal to hire illegal aliens and litigate any one that does hire them. Mexico actually has people on the boarder that instruct illegals on how to sneak across the boarder. I think that any Mexican military that cross our boarders should be either killed or captured. And yes, they have crossed our boarder in Arizona several times. And have shot at our police, and they have bigger guns than our police do.The Arizona police think that they are doing so to smuggle drugs across. We should stop all American trade and all American citizens from crossing the boarder and buying there products. Then they would be forced to stop the crossings by illegals them selves. The USA is the largest money maker for that country. And if we do not do something soon, they will take over by shear numbers by electing their own people to office. They already vote even though they are illegal.
