I recieved a credit to my checking account from Metavante Corp. Why?
I will make an educated guess…You made some sort of payment through your checking account … this might have been using the “online billpay” service that your bank offers, or there could be some other payment service that your bank offers.At the time you made the payment, the funds were debited from your account, but the payment never got processed. This is probably from at least 6 months ago, possibly up to 2 years. Anyway, since the person or business you sent the money to never “claimed” the funds (e.g. never cashed the check), Metavante is refunding it back to you.
How do I pay Amazon with my checking account? Do I write a check or do they remove money from the bank account?

I opened my mail today and was surprised to find a check for $288 made out to me from Metavante Corporation. It lists a PO Box in Sioux Falls, SD and is payable through a bank in Antigo, WI. The check looks extremely real and even has heat-sensitive ink on the back. Not only that, but it has my real bank account number listed on the top left corner! I've never heard of these people before, though, and I'm pretty sure it's a scam. I think I'm gonna take it to the backyard and burn it, but I was wondering if anyone else has received a check like this.

Of course it's a scam That is NOT how secret shopping works. You are NEVER sent a check upfront or paid $400 REAL secret shopping only pays $10-15 per assignment. You are NEVER sent out on your first assignment until AFTER you have completed a training either at their office or in person with their Field Rep for your region if their head office is in another state. You are also NEVER sent a check before a shop. Real secret shopping always has you spend your own money on any shop and you are not reimbursed until 30 days AFTER you have submitted your evaluation forms and receipts. Real secret shopping NEVER involves any financial transactions such as money transfers, buying prepaid cards, etc. If it were a real secret shopper for CVS, you would have been told the specific store you need to go to, as well as the specific time and day of the week, You would have also been told to buy an item (or two items) from a particular area of the store up to a certain amount So for a real secret shopping job you would get a full brief of the store and what they were looking for. They would say you had to go to CVS at 123 Main Street on a Tuesday or Wednesday between the hours of 10am-noon. You would have then been told to buy a cough medicine up to $7 or buy some sort of candy up to $3 then ask a staff member if they carry xx brand and see what they say. You would have been told exactly what to look for - how many staff were on the floor, if anyone offered to help you, if the floors were clean, if the items on the shelves were dirty, if any shelves were empty, etc If you did not get a brief like this, then you are NOT doing any sort of legitimate secret shopping Not to mention Metavante has NOTHING to do with secret shopping. They are a banking service working only with banks and brokerage firms, not drug stores, I would call them directly http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=34506973 and ask to speak to their accounting department so they can put a freeze on their checking account and get their internal security and legal teams involved. A former employee, temp or even cleaner has stolen or copied their checks to run this scam Then turn the check, the envelope and copies of all emails over to your local police unless Metavante asks you to send to them. You were targeted in a money laundering scam, not real secret shopping
