Why Did My My 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo Jus Cut Off When I Was In Park

Does anyone know how to turn off parking lights 2001 Monte Carlo?

Are they only on when you're driving, or all the time?

I'm guessing the answer is the former, in which case those are the DRL's, daytime running lights. My friend has a Venture, they are always on when the car is running. I don't believe you can turn them off, but they're not hurting anything (they're supposed to make you easier to see), so don't worry about it.

Why does my car stall only when I turn on the heater?

Sometimes when you use the heat option with defrosters on the older cars, the A/C clutch turns on. This will put a load on the engine and when you slow down the idle may be too low to keep the engine running. On those engines with carbs, there should be an idle solenoid swith that kicks on and picks up the idle. Check the wire going to it and make sure that it hasnt been removed. If it is on, then you may just need an idle adjustment , check the timing at the same time plus the condition of the tune up.
good luck.........

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

Why do my brakes still squeak after I just replaced the two front brake pads?

There's two types of squeaks associated with brakes. The first is the grinding, squealing sound when the brake pad is getting low and the safety brackets make contact with the brake rotors. The second sound is less harsh, and it's most often associated with brake dust building between the pads and the brake piston.

So either you have a harsh squeal from the back brakes which still need to be replaced, or you have a squeal from rubbing between brake components. So check your back brake pads; if they're good, then you need to spend time cleaning the calipers and brake pistons. You can find anti-squeal compound which you apply to the back of the brake pads. Also, lubricate the brake calipers and their mounts and you should be good to go.

What causes a car to lose power while driving?

In modern cars with engine management systems, it is the system itself that reduces power if it detects a problem with the engine.  A warning light will come and and the engine will go into 'limp home' mode, where speed it usually limited to 80km/h or lower.  Any number of things can cause this, but usually it relates to loss of something important, like a coolant leak, or low oil pressure.  Sometimes it can also be a false positive due to a fault in the management system itself. All internal combustion engines require three things to work; compression, fuel and ignition.  Degradation of any one of theses will result in lower engine performance.Loss of compression can result from engine wear, common in engines with several hundred thousand kilometers on the clock.  Engine efficiency is lost because gasses can escape past the piston rings.  Mechanical failure such as a blown head gasket can cause a similar loss.Blockages or degradation of the fuel supply, such as a worn fuel pump will cause loss of power for obvious reasons.Ignition faults stem from things such as a cracked distributor head, worn spark plugs, worn ignition coil or faulty spark plug leads.  They generally result in some cylinders not igniting the fuel/air mix, thus reducing the power.Loss of lubricant or coolant will cause the engine to overheat and then seize.  In this case, loss of power is 100%.Worn bearings in the engine will usually not reduce power much, they will keep working, making more and more noise, and then fail catastrophically, causing the engine to seize. It is also possible for timing chains to slip, adjustment screws to loosen in the carburetor, exhaust manifolds to develop leaks , and other minor mechanical faults to occur that will reduce engine power.  This can happen suddenly or gradually over time.

Is it normal for a car engine to move back and forth while changing gears?

Its ‘normal-ish’ to move a bit, not so normal if it moves a lot. Almost all, if not all of a car’s drivetrain (engine, transmission, rear differential) is actually sitting on mounts that usually have a flexible (rubber) component to them that absorbs shock in the drivetrain (from shifting etc). These mounts can be ‘motor mounts’, ‘transmission mounts’ and even differential mounts (or bushings). Since they are flexible, they do normally move a bit. With age, mounts get old, compressed and less flexible, or can break completely. Due to supporting the weight of the engine, motor mounts are more prone to wear/breaking over time.Generally speaking the mounts themselves are quite inexpensive, but the work involved in replacing them can be time consuming/difficult. I replaced the transmission mount on my car recently, which was easier than I expected, but the motor mounts would have been considerably more difficult for me to do by myself.
