Why Did The Composition Of The Canadian Penny Go From Zinc Core To Steel Core In The Year 2000

Finance: Which is the best way to learn about stocks?

I went to my mentor and asked “I want to trade like you”.He replied “How much money you can donate?”I was surprised. “What?”I want to make money. I don’t want to donate anywhere. He replied “Calm down, Son”.Just tell me what is the maximum amount you can donate at this point of time if someone needs your help.I said 20–25 thousand. Then he said “Put 50k in the market”.He gave me some tips and I came up with 5 stocks from different sectors.I put all 50k in 5 stocks (10k on each stock as directed by him). After 7 days,I lost 5 thousands. Then I had some patience and lost 6k more. Total loss was 11k.I got mad.I was thinking one thing “What will happen I will lose all my money?”Next day the P&L became -10k.Next day it became -11k.It fluctuated between -10k and -11k for some days.I got scared because I was in loss.I went to my mentor again and asked “What is happening?”He replied “You can’t lose more money”.After 6 months, “I converted my 50k to almost 65k.”I was happy with that.I learnt a lot during those 6 months. This way I learnt a bit about the market. Those were my first lessons.During those 6 months,Everyday I read news, always found out why the price is going down or going up.I was analyzing the stocks every moment. What I realized from my experience:You can’t learn it within day.You must get into the market with a small amount of money. Put 80% on delivery and 20% on intraday. This helps.Don’t put all your money on intraday. Once you lose money, you will lose all your confidence.Don’t speculate. Find a solid reason “Why the stock should go up or down.”You can’t track all companies.I have my own set of stocks. You must have your own set of stocks.Stay updated with the news.I have a website (see profile) where I write news about performing companies for my record. You can read those and do a research of your own. And you must find 3, 4 websites like that to gain more knowledge.Stay tuned for more.

What are natural, holistic or alternative ways to treat bipolar disorder?

The most commonly accepted (even by prescribing psychiatrists)  non-pharmaceutical add-on treatment for bipolar is fish oil. It's basically good for the brain. I would never recommend taking fish oil instead of your prescription medications, but in addition to, is a good thing. Fish oils contain the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In the US the doc recommended a prescription fish oil called Lovaza (3 pills a day) which has a higher level of EPA in relation to DHA. In Australia the doc prefers a fish oil that has a higher level of DHA in relation to EPA. Am not sure which is better, but suffice to say that taking fish oil is good - no matter which combination of EPA and DHA you end up with.

Is there a reason that US coins are not magnetic?

It's because Canada traditionally used pure nickel in their nickel (and later their other "silver coins"), and then switched to plated steel. Both of those are magnetic.

A US nickel, however, is only 25% nickel, with the rest being copper--it's the same alloy used on the outside of the dime, quarter and half dollar. That alloy isn't magnetic.

Canada used a lot of nickel because it's the world's largest supplier of the stuff. They went to the plated steel because it was less expensive.

The US used the 75/25 cupronickel alloy for the nickel because it's softer than pure nickel, making it easier to mint. They went to the "sandwich" construction for the other coins (cupronickel on the outside, with a pure copper core) because it had the same electrical properties as the silver coins they were replacing (some vending machines test coins electrically to make sure you're not using something like a washer instead of a coin).

Magnetic/non-magnetic was just a result of the alloys that they chose, but it wasn't the reason for the choice in either case.

Unfortunately, Daisy is wrong when she says that US coins no longer have nickel in them. Other than during WW2, the nickel has had the same composition since 1866, and dimes, quarters, and half dollars have been the same since 1965

What are pennies from the 1960s worth?

f you find a penny in circulation, it will have wear. Therefore, it really cannot be in mint condition (also known to coin collectors as uncirculated). Here are some old penny values:1943 steel penny (this one often looks silver or white): 20-50 cents if well worn.1934-1958 no mintmark, D, or S copper wheat penny: 5-10 cents if well worn.1959 no mintmark or D Lincoln Memorial penny: 1 cent (face value) if worn.1960-1974 no mintmark, D, or S Lincoln Memorial penny: 1 cent if worn.1974-1981 no mintmark or D Lincoln Memorial penny: 1 cent if worn.1982 both heavier weight copper or lighter weight zinc core pennies: 1 cent if worn.1983-to-date no mintmark or D penny: 1 cent if worn.Doubled Die Old Pennies:While penny values vary widely if they are worn, if you do find any of these old pennies, take them to your local coin dealer to get a value estimate.1955 Doubled-die obverse cent: worth several 100s of dollars even if very well worn. The 1955 doubled-die can be easily detected thanks to extreme doubling of the date on the heads side of the coin. By the way, the obverse is the front of the coin, and the reverse is the back, or tails side1972 Doubled-die obverse: look for signs of doubled images on the obverse1983 Doubled-die reverse: there will be doubling seen in the lettering on the reverse1984 Doubled ear: very hard to detect because of the design, but look for indications that Lincoln’s ear is doubled1995 Doubled-die obverse1999 Wide AM: look for extra space between the A and M in America. For comparison, look at other Lincoln cents made since 1994.What determine a Penny's Value? As you see, unless you were lucky enough to find one of the very scarce doubled-die pennies in your pocket change, your Lincoln Memorial pennies are worth only face value right now if worn.Even many wheat pennies are worth just a marginal premium over face value if worn.In general, pennies struck before 1934 are scarcer than those minted since 1934. This is primarily due to generally lower production numbers during those earlier years. Also, many of those early Lincoln pennies saw heavy use in circulation and were not taken care of very well. So, many of the remaining early Lincoln cents are highly worn, corroded, cleaned, bent, or in other ways, damaged.
