Why Did You Refuse To Allow Me To Answer Questions Earlier Today

Why do you refuse to answer the most important question?

How do I answer this?!Every time I scroll through my answer later to find something that could be my last to be an example, I end up writing 3 or 4 different answers and have abandoned this question. It's so far buried that I can't find it in my answer later anymore. Here's a picture I took this morning. The majority of those drafts are questions I've already answered. But, if we take those out of the equation I still have 200 answer laters.I think I'd have 400+ if Quora didn't cap me out (which I think it does). On my way to trying to find the example question, I wrote a few answers, while meaning to be working on this one!I'm addicted to writing. I'm falling behind on writing my memoir because there's always another answer on Quora I'm thinking about. Some of these questions have inspired me so much that I have multiple medium drafts. I'm quite proud of what I have so far and am excited to publish them.I will be sharing it with my lovely Quora members.I have yet to find an answer that is a sufficient mic drop. That leaves an impact and is worthy enough to say. “My work here is done. I'm done writing.”The very fire in my soul is ink, pens, and words. I am a writer at my core. This question is impossible for me to answer. That is why I have been refusing to answer it, though it sits in my answer later, taunting me.

Can an employer refuse to allow me to wear shorts to work if they are prescribed by a doctor?

Very good question! Employers can usually do whatever they want, including setting whatever dress code they wish. However, this could fall under the Americans with Disabilities Act and if you cannot do your job with long pants on and you can do your job perfectly with shorts, I don't know if he can refuse to let you wear them, especially if you have a dr's excuse. Are they talking about firing you? This is what really ticks me off, you are trying to work and be a productive member of society. If no one will let you work because of your disability, then you will end up having to get on social security disability. People gripe because there's too many disabled people but people like you want to work and have to fight to do it. Keep fighting! You have every right to work and if the pants cause too much pressure on your sensitive nerves, wear shorts. As long as you still look nice and professional, I don't see what the big deal is.

In a court, if a lawyer demands a yes/no answer to a question that simply cannot be answered such, what happens if a witness refuses to provide a simple yes/no answer?

It was a long time ago (approximately 30 years) so I don't recall the actual question but it went like this…Lawyer: “Mr. Bichler, where was the other vehicle at the time you spotted it in the intersection?”Me: “It was in the intersection.”Lawyer: “Mr. Bichler, please just answer the question yes or no.”Me: “But …”Lawyer: “Just yes or no Mr. Bichler.”Me: “… you didn't ask…”Lawyer: “Mr. Bichler! Just yes or no!”Me: : * clears thoat and speaks rapidly * “You DID NOT ask me a yes or no question!”::: Silence from everyone. Lawyer stares at judge. I turn and look at judge. :::Judge: “He's correct, you didn't ask a yes or no question.”The lawyer or the judge asked the court reporter to read back the question and the lawyer sheepishly reworded the question so that it was a yes or no question. Here's the thing though. I'm not necessarily advocating that you should do this. Why? During a break in testimony my own attorney admonished me, “You're coming across cocky.”Me: “Maybe so but I couldn't answer yes or no and you didn't speak up.”My attorney: “Stop with the cocky attitude.” (Failing to address that he didn't speak up.)Judgement was ultimately in favor of the other folks and maybe (probably) coming across cocky contributed to this.In hindsight and through the lens of experience I see that it was a tough situation and “20 year old Andrew” coming across cocky is a concern. However, I still maintain that because my attorney did not speak up I only had the option of stating that it was not a yes or no question. Long story short, talk to your legal team ahead of your taking the stand and ask them to be tuned in to this sort of thing, as it clearly does happen and they need to be prepared to speak up so you don't have to. If you're neither the plaintiff nor the defendant and are called as a witness without representation then I guess you need to try to come across modestly as you point out that you can't answer a question yes or no because it wasn't a yes or no question. The judge is likely already aware of this.

Is a McDonalds Manager allowed to refuse giving you his or her name?

I thoMcDonald's a business proprietor, such as a McDonalds manager, is required to give you his or her name (such as a telemarketer is if you ask them), but earlier today a manager REFUSED to give me her name and instead started questioning me as to why i was asking for her name, which i remember hearing is actually illegal, any law students or actual lawyers out there able to help me out?? Thank you in advance.

How do I answer someone who asks me a question I don't want to answer?

It depends on the reasons you aren't willing to answer. If it's a reasonable question brought to you by somebody that deserves an answer... Then I would try my best to answer it honestly, or say, "I'm sorry, I don't have the courage to be honest with you regarding "that thing"."If it's a question that the person doesn't have many rights to know, just say, "I'm sorry but that's personal and something I choose not to share at this moment." Make sure you can differentiate between the two with an honest heart and you will be A-ok.
