Why African Americans or black americans should not celebrate the 4th of July?
The 4th of July celebrates the liberation of wealthy colonial slave owners from the bondage of British taxation without representation. It did absolutely NOTHING for the slaves. That the US, unlike the state of Virginia, cannot even bring itself to apologize for the historical legacy and continuing impact of slavery shows just how little this nation has really progressed in truly creating a society where all men and women are considered equal. The simple fact is the US will be at least another fifty years before it even seriously considers reparations, which will most like resemble rather inadequate honorarium than sincere funds, despite the fact that it has paid reparations to a number of groups including the survivors of the Japanese-American internment camps of WWII.
Why does America celebrate Independence Day on July 4th?
Celebrations take place on the fourth of July every year because it was on that date, in 1776, that Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence.Beforehand, a motion for independence was put forward by Richard Henry Lee and was voted upon on July 1 1776, when 12 of the 13 colonies voted in favour.The official Declaration of Independence was then drafted by future president Thomas Jefferson.Although it was adopted by congress on July 4 (hence the day of celebration), the bill was not actually signed until nearly a month later on August 2.The New York colonies had to agree to the motion, which they did on July 9. It then took a further two weeks to get the bill written up on parchment in a readable fashion. Why do the celebrate 4th july?
The 4th of July has been an important holiday but today, more and more people do not know why we actually celebrate this day. If you are not up to date on your history of the United States, July 4th, 1776 is the day that the colonies decided to declare themselves independent of Britain. By writing a very detailed decree, they decided that they no longer would need to be governed by the Kings of England that had been so very unjust to the colonists in the years before. On July 4th, America was born. We call the 4th of July Independence Day because this day was the day they declared independence from Great Britain. Today, we celebrate the fact that we are a free nation that is no under the rule of another. But, there is more to the celebration of independence than just the fact that this is the birthday of the United States. In fact, there are many goals and ideas that are represented in this celebration that until this day we fight for and protect around the world.

Did African-Americans who were not yet free celebrate the Fourth of July?Generally they did not, as far as I know. Even antebellum free black communities, such as those living in Rochester NY or Oberlin, OH, often celebrated on the 5th of July, rather than the 4th, as a protest against the enslaved status of the majority of black Americans. Being as it celebrates US independence, it’s only celebrated in the United States and/or by US folks living overseas. It’s an entirely local holiday of no interest or relevance to other countries.I’m not really sure what I can say to help you grasp this concept, but Ireland is a different country to the US.Why Ireland would celebrate US independence is a mystery to me. It has its own history and culture and public holidays and everything.It gets even crazier: there are nearly two hundred different countries around the world.
Celebrating the 4th of July?
Is it just me or is it a little funny that black people (and Hispanics) celebrate the 4th of July when they weren't even part of America during the Revolution? And they were brought here by force when they did come. I know people are going to call me Racist for this, but it did dawn on me and I find it entertaining and I think that if more people looked at the historical aspect of it, they would too. I do realize that people celebrate the freedom of America, and of course that is open to anyone, but to celebrate the winning of a war that you didn't help win...isn't that a little odd? Or were they here already? (I could be wrong)
What things do americans do on the 4th july?
Don't believe the nonsense some people put on here. Many communities across the country celebrate in many ways. It's usually not just the 4th that we celebrate on, but pretty much the whole week or weekend. Many communities have carnivals, and other activities. For example, we have a community swimming pool. Kids dive for money that is scattered on the bottom of the pool. They also throw a greased watermelon in and all the kids try to get it out of the pool. They have races and exhibits. In the west there are lots of rodeos, demolition derby's (cars that crash into each other, last one left running is the winner), bingo games, lots of food and drinks, outdoor movies in the park, and usually fireworks. Many families get together and have a big feast. Usually hamburgers and hot-dogs, but could be grilled chicken, steaks, or whatever anyone wants or is willing to cook up. Watermelon is a usual treat along with potato salad. There is no hard fast rule. Fireworks are traditional. Some communities put on big firework displays, while in many areas of the country people get together for their own private firework displays. Parades are a common thing too with all kinds of floats, marching bands, police motorcyclists doing all kinds of neat things, fire truck with their sirens going, horses, clowns, politicians(some lump them in with the clowns), military, and businesses. In our local parade those in the parade threw candy and taffy to those watching the parade. Kids love it. No school in the month of July here, but not because of Independence Day. Hope that helps.
