Why Do Boxers Wear Gloves But Wrestlers Don

Why do boxers wear gloves and other fighting sports don't?

“Why do boxers wear gloves and other fighting sports don't?”Aside from bare knuckle boxing, and “no gloves” Muay Thai matches, all fighting sports that allow full contact punches to the head require gloves. The exception is ice hockey, in which the players are to drop their (hard fibre glass / plastic) gloves before fighting. The gloves are to protect the fighters’ hands. Punching hard objects such as human heads carry high risk of breaking the bones in the puncher’s hands.

Why do boxers wear gloves but wrestlers don't?

Because it's kind of hard to grapple with closed-finger gloves and wrestling is predominantly a grappling sport.

Boxing gloves were designed for defensive reasons. A. So they don't break their hand when they punch (they also wrap their hand underneath) for further protection. B. To add a more defensive aspect to the sport.

Neither of those things are needed in pro wrestling.

Who is more prone to cauliflower ear... boxers or wrestlers?

wrestlers get cauliflower ear more easily, since their heads are ground into the mat all the time.

anyone who says they have never seen a boxer with cauliflower ear obviously has never seen Gene Tunney. He had a famous cauliflower ear which he never got fixed. He saw it as a badge of honor and pride so he kept it intact the rest of his life without getting the surgery.

Boxer vs Wrestler.?

It really depends, look in the MMA world. Chuck Liddel primarily is a striker and a puncher. He had crazy power in his punches. Everyone who fought him thought, yea I will just take him down. As soon as people took him down he would just stand right back up again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpIYlFH4BLU

When people went down for take downs, he just moved back and punched. Boxers are usually better than wrestlers depending on the individual. Because if you have unintelligent none adaptable boxers they do not change their style and can get completely dominated by wrestlers simply because they have no defense against it.

But if you have an intelligent Boxer against an intelligent wrestler. The Boxer wins simply because he uses movement to stay out of range while using striking to keep them away while doing damage. I know this from first hand experience. It really depends. It also depends on the environment, in a street situation and everything is in a confined space, the Boxer doesnt stand a chance. They need movement to win.

Why do boxers take their gloves off so quickly after a fight and what happens to them?

Well to put things in the right perspective, consider this: before a fight, a fighter goes through the meticulous and extensive process of having his hands properly wrapped and then the gloves are fitted and secured with tape and signed by an inspector before the fight can take place, which usually occurs about 1 or 2 hours before a bout.Having gloves firmly secured during a fight is important, however, everyday tasks such as grabbing a bottle or a pen, becomes very difficult. After a fight, a fighter has his gloves quickly removed due to many reasons. One of them is the sheer discomfort of having the gloves put on for already several hours, and just taking them off is a relief, both physically and psychologically. Another reason is the fact that normally after a fight, there is much interaction, with trainers, the opponent, reporters and commentators, sign autographs etc. and the fighter obviously needs his hands in order to do a proper greeting and interactions to all these people, so taking off the gloves as fast as possible is crucial, in order to avoid losing time. Another reason is to inspect the fighter´s hands as soon as possible, specially if the fighter feels any pain and/or discomfort, since a broken hand in boxing is a very dangerous situation for a fighter´s career.Gloves and hand-wraps are also removed quickly and on-the-spot, so they can be inspected for any type of banned substances or material that can give a fighter an unfair advantage (Case in Point: championship-caliber fighter Antonio Margarito was caught putting a substance on his hand-wraps called plaster of Paris, which makes the hand wraps very solid and adds an unnatural weight to it, making the impact of a punch carry far more inertia and power than a punch without this substance). In the image above, Margarito´s hand-wraps are broken or “busted”, a clear sign that there was an added substance in his hand-wraps. Hand-wraps are designed to be elastic, so even with very powerful punches, the wraps should not break at all. This is one reason why gloves are taken off rather quickly after a fight.
