Why Do Conservatives Think That People On Welfare Are Lazy

Why do conservatives think everyone on welfare is lazy?

FOX News told them.

Why do people think that all people on welfare are lazy?

Good question. It's because people have the stereotype of a welfare recipient that's 500 pounds, sits watching cable and eating ho-hos and ice cream in their trailer and drains the taxpayers for money. Yes, these people exist. But it's important to remember that children, the disabled, and the elderly make up the majority of welfare recipients.

Why do Conservatives think all liberals are lazy?

I work two jobs while attending college full time to improve my life. I realize this is anecdotal but I know I'm not the only liberal who busts their ***. I'm not saying no liberals are lazy, but you can't say no Republicans are lazy either.

Why do a lot of conservatives think poor people aren't hard workers?

The most widely used conservative justification for the inequality of wealth is that the poor are just paying the consequences of their bad decisions in life. Some add hard work to that premise, but the obvious causes that justification to be altered by working smarter, not harder.Making better decisions, and working smarter, are based on how smart a person is to begin with, and education plays a roll, but half the population has a below AVERAGE IQ. The other half has an above average IQ.The average successful entrepreneur has had three to five failures, before striking it rich. The entrepreneur gets all kinds of help from society through corporate liability laws to protect his personal wealth, and bankruptcy laws to help get him back on his feet again, while at the same time society pays for the court system, police, fire department, street lights, roads and a free K-12 public education for the businessman’s children.A hard work man/woman with an IQ of 75, who worked fifty years cleaning dust bins, and bought a house, with a mortgage he was paying off, found himself in 2008/2009 with a bank loan (having been sold six times to other banking entrepreneurs) bigger than his house was worth. The dust bin cleaner, now almost seventy, can’t make the mortgage payment for a month from his social security, which conservatives have tried to starve to death since Reagan (the cost of living increase for S.S. next year is a whopping 0.03%), and he loses his house. Tens of millions of people suffered this fate. Bad decision to buy a house, better would have been to put his money in the stock market, at least then the old guy could sell it and feed himself for a day. The stock market crashed as well, but the bank wanted the money now.All wealth comes from the society from which it is made, not from chimpanzee or orca cultures. Listening to a conservative saying that he shouldn’t have to contribute more to social security, above an income of $130K a year, because he won’t need that communist program anyway, is pretty silly when he says that as the (communist) street lights come on, without anything else lighting up in his arrogant head. Some people just like the hard work, smart work argument, with the bad decision making added in as a bonus.Fifty years ago, I thought Kodak looked so good.

Why do conservatives see the poor as lazy?

I think a lot of it is coded racism. Poor minorities are the lazy ones. Poor whites just need jobs. And it's a powerful selling point to they're voting block. Emotional voting is what got Trump into office. Normally sane People threw all reason away by having they're underlying emotions stoked by a hater. Conservatives coined the phrases “welfare Queen, and the food stamp president.” Targeted specifically towards blacks. Some poor whites had no clue that programs for poor blacks, are the same programs for poor whites. So poor whites were convinced that they are poor through no fault of they're own. Other people and immigrants are the lazy ones. And they are here to take white jobs and white tax dollars to make more babies. Here's a thought. rich govermmet employees that take money from Corporations and get paid by your tax dollars, telling you that government is bad, and should not help you. And they have the best socialized government healthcare money can buy.Poor and lazy makes no sense to me. Who in the hell voluntarily wants to be poor and on welfare.Working hard means shit in today's world. An average person can work as hard as he/she wants and still not earn anywhere near what these politicians are making. I doubt very much that the republicans calling people lazy do not work harder than a teacher or a construction worker.

Why do conservatives think that liberals are just lazy and don't have a job and depend on food stamps?

I'm pretty sure that most conservatives don't think that about liberals. The few that do probably think that way because they haven't met enough of us in real life to challenge the opinion they formed from watching right-wing pundits.Honestly, I don't know that many conservatives in real life either and unfortunately many of the ones I do know have confirmed my biases. For example, a woman I know just got a Lamborghini for her 50th birthday. This is the same woman who has posted at least a dozen times this year to complain about the increased cost of Obamacare. One of my extended family members owns a large house, a boat, a classic car and a sports car and complains at least once a week about taxes and why he has to pay for anyone else’s welfare. I also know a trust fund family in which the father is the CEO of a huge investment company. They have two maids, three nannies (one for each child) and a secretary for the home - to book family vacations, make dinner reservations and spa appointments. The mom just manages the family trust fund in between vacations and whatnot. I have a classmate who owns a private jet (I kid you not), he takes holidays on his yacht several times a year and was one of the first people to get tickets to Hamilton. He inherited a lot of money from his parents and basically lives off the investments. These are all people who will talk your ear off about how poor people have no work ethic but ironically have no idea of what it is like to struggle to make ends meet, never had to take a shitty job, never had to work at night to put themselves through school. Worst of all they pay their own employees badly and sometimes grudgingly.Fortunately, not all conservatives are like that, obviously what I'm describing are some people from the extreme end of the conservative party. But when I hear this narrative about lazy people/liberals who won't get a job, I think of all the kind-hearted people I know who work two and three jobs, don't even own a single car or house and still don't complain about taxes or higher costs for healthcare - some of whom have been on or are on welfare because it's still not enough.I appreciate Quora because people on here challenge my biases and force me to see individuals as individuals. Neither group is a monolith.

Why do conservatives believe that poverty-stricken people are just freeloading off of welfare programs?

The dumb ones are victims of stereotypes with a grain of truth in them. The smart ones realize that even for people who aren’t freeloading deadbeats, whatever percentage that may be, the existence of the infamous “welfare cliff” leads to a “welfare trap”.Let me explain using an example with probably inaccurate numbers…Sally works odd jobs here and there and makes about $19,000 a year on her own. Because of a rule with the welfare program, since she makes less than $20k, the government gives her an additional $5k.Now this summer, Sally is offered an internship that, if she does sufficiently well in, can lead to a full-time job with high pay, plus a path to a full ride at school for an advanced degree later on down the line. This internship will also provide a $3K stipend for this summer, which will top up her usual $19k income. But wait a minute, you observe! This puts her above the $20k threshold! So this year, if she takes her internship she will earn $22k, which is actually $2k shy of her usual $24k income! So you see how the incentives are aligned against her advancing herself? This is why negative income taxes with a very slowly graduated sliding scale are a much better idea for helping low-income folks. Now, since the Democrats are supposed to be the party of workers, facts, data, and science, why haven’t they done anything about these perverse incentives?Lots of reasons:*Many of their voters are unaware of this because their media sources are economically illiterate, or don’t like to be judgmental of welfare recipients or critical of benevolent-sounding programs*Democratic leaders like being in charge of vast, complex initiatives with high administrative costs, and that employ lots of loyal public sector bureaucrats*Democratic leaders want to help the poor just enough to make everyone to feel warm and fuzzy, but not enough to make people independent and no longer need them*Democratic leaders fear Americans being too interested in the writings of Hayek and Friedman
