Why Do Democrats Consider A Democrat

Do you consider yourself a republican or democrat and why?

republican.
i can think and have morals

Can it be that 56% of Democrats consider themselves Socialist?

I'm Independent, not a Democrat, although I always vote Democrat.Frankly, nearly everyone in America is a socialist, they just don't know it or acknowledge it. We mostly all believe in community police forces, fire departments, the postal service, the military, the national highway system, national parks, etc, etc. That's all socialism. Those services could be privatized and many Libertarian types want exactly that. I've met Libertarians who want every square inch of road, highway  and park land sold or given to private concerns. But these services and lands are owned and run by the government and most of us want it that way. We suspect the private companies would do a cruddy job handling them and tests have proven that to be true.People don't tend to see those services as socialism though. They tend the think only bigger scale can be socialism. IE. Soviet style communism. I say this is wrong. Is a mouse less of a mammal than an elephant? Is a .38 revolver not a gun when compared to an M60 gun?Seen in this light even a whole lotta Libertarians have socialist tendencies.

Why is Australia considered a democratic country?

Australians vote on representatives for their area.Any Australian can run for political nomination, irrelevant of their beliefs or position. The only restriction is they are not under criminal charges or bankruptcy at the time of nomination.Voting is compulsory, thus legitimizing those electedVoting is preferential, thus allowing people to have more choice in their elected officials, even if their first choice is unelected.Citizens (and even non-citizens) have access to their representative by multiple communication methods.Due to the preference system of voting, politicians can not rely on their party to stay in power.Due to preference voting it is not a two party system (in fact, it is arguably a three party system of Liberals, Labor, and Nationals with some minority parties)Due to the number of minority politicians the ruling party has to regularly make deals in order to pass legislation, these deals increase democratic process.Lastly, the most important pointThe head of state (Governor General) does not have absolute power over government. The power resides in elected officials (Prime Minister and Cabinet) that can be replaced at any time through a democratic process in parliament, as well as the opportunity for an entire new election should the government be deemed ineffective.

Why is the Indian government considered a democratic government?

Governments are not necessarily democratic in their approach , but the set up is democratic as per ConstitutionIn the preamble of Indian Constitution, the following is thereTHE CONSTITUTION OF INDIAWE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a 1 [SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC] and to secure to all its citizens:JUSTICE, social, economic and political;LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;EQUALITY of status and of opportunity; and to promote among them allFRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the 2 [unity and integrity of the Nation];IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twentysixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.Our Constitution says, our set up and system should be democratic. But, as we all know, power has a corrupting effect. A government that has assumed power, through democratic means, many a time behave in undemocratic ways. That’s governments are changed by people in elections, and Courts take care that anti-democratic measures of Governments are corrected. We should not mistake a democratic set up with a government, if the set up is a cause, government is a product.

Would you consider the Democratic Party (US) to be left-wing/centre-left, centrist or right-wing/centre-right?

The Democrats are clearly a center right party.Whilst the party is to the left of the Republicans they are still not a left wing party. They have the odd left wing member like Bernie Sanders but remain centrists and center right party. They still do not support state provided Universal healthcare, most left wing parties and the majority of right wing ones support this. This is a clear marker of where they lie politically. This would put them on par with the Right of Britain’s Conservative party. They don’t believe in mass wealth distribution. The tax rate on high earners, and all people for that matter is lower than most European nations. They do not support working tax credits like European centrists would.Equally they still support an absurdly large military, a huge drain of tax payers money. However the major reason they are right wing is they still get millions from Wall street co-operations. The left stand for the working class, they do not take bribes from large co-operations at the expense of workers.Yes they have some leftist policies, but they remain a right wing party. A re-brand around Sanders would change them to a left wing party.

Why is America considered to be a democratic country? Does it have any signs of democracy?

Unlike a republic where elected leaders still matter. The idea that raw democracy is not evil is the greatest flaw of the modern age. As Juvenal once said all they want is panem et circenses or bread and circuses. Or Healthcare and food stamps and broken promises nowdays.AMERICA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY.Thanks-Spartan

What's the difference between a liberal and a democrat?

A liberal is someone who believes in liberalism, which is political and ideological philosophy. Liberals have a wide array of viewpoints, but generally support freedoms and equality. These can range from freedom of speech to gender equality.Liberalism has been around since the 14th or 15th century, during the Renaissance where liberal ideas first came to prominence. Throughout history, liberals have supported progressive viewpoints that favor equality. The first few liberal viewpoints were the push for democracy and freedom of religion (17th century), followed by classical liberalism (18th-19th century) which supported banning slavery and serfdom, better working conditions, and colonial independence. Later, once these goals were achieved, liberal views shifted again towards the progressive, favoring civil rights and women’s suffrage (20th century). Finally, here we are now with modern or social liberalism, which is even more progressive and supports universal healthcare, immigration rights, LGBT rights, women’s rights, and greater wealth equality. Note how liberalism references mainly ideologies, and liberals simply believe in that ideology. In contrast, democrat is someone who supports the democratic party, and doesn’t reference their ideology. If the democratic party had conservative viewpoints, a democrat would also be conservative. However, in the U.S. today the Democratic Party has modern liberal views (see: Burnie Sanders), and thus Democrats are also liberal. The difference lies once you go out of mainstream U.S. politics. Socialists and communists are also liberal, just extremely so. So are European liberals. Both of these groups have liberal views, but aren’t Democrats because they don’t participate in U.S. politics and the Democratic Party. Therefore, most Democrats are liberal but not all liberals are Democrats. Likewise, Republicans are conservative but not all conservatives are Republicans.Note: Democrat is also defined as someone supporting democracy, such as in ‘social democrat’, but because this is the U.S. I’d assume that definition isn’t relevant. Thanks for the A2A.

Is flat tax considered a republican or democratic concept?

Flat Tax is a swindle of the middle class and the lower class.
Before you move on, allow me to explain.
The wealthy do not have 'incomes'.
(At least not taxable ones.)
They have trust funds, investment portfolios, Long-term investment shelters, etc.
None of these are "incomes".
I can live in my Trust fund owned home, have the trust fund pay for my children's education, buy my vehicles, pay the taxes, and grant me a salary of $1/year to maintain the value of the trust fund.
My total 'income' is therefore $0.00 after I take a standard deduction.
I live well, eat well, sit on the board of a few corporations, and hold tens of millions of dollars in municipal bonds, the income from which are not taxable.
You, make $80,000 a year, pay $20,000 for your mortgage and owe taxes at roughly 30%.
This means you owe $24,000 in taxes, before deductions.
If we assume that I use the roads, and am protected by the military and fire department at the same rate as you are, which of us is getting the better deal on a flat tax?
Unless and until you can remove the preferential treatment of wealth, and define all forms of payment and worth as 'income', then a flat tax merely shifts all of the remaining burden onto those who have "income".
Those who have used existing law to avoid/escape having any 'income', get a free ride.
Guaranteed by the Flat Tax laws that were just created.

Best Wishes
