Why Do Employees Act Like They Own The Place

Why do supervisors/managers act this way toward their employees?

A supervisor's job is not to be your emotional support person. His/her job is make certain that you do your job well. As an employee, you need to leave your personal problems at the front door of your place of employment. That's the litmus test for a mature adult -- the ability to compartmentalize your life.

If you went home to your family after a hard day at work and made a face at your mother, chances are, she wouldn't be all that sympathetic either.

Personally, I hate speaking on the phone. I mean I REALLY hate it. But part of my job involves helping reps in the field deal with their problems. So when the phone rings, I pause for one second, smile at it, then pick it up. The person on the other end of the phone seems to feel that smile, and the call goes well. Neither the rep nor my boss care about the fact that I hate talking on the phone. That's not their problem, it's mine. And I try very hard to leave that problem outside of my office.

Try smiling before you go into work, even if you're not feeling happy. It can carry over for the rest of the day. Just don't try laying you personal problems on your boss.

Why is the DMV such a terrible place with terrible employees?

DMV employees are people just like us. they have a job to do within very strict guidelines and are surrounded by endless red tape and paperwork. it can be very frustrating to have folks argue with you every day and then add personal insults to you as they become more frustrated as customers. the simplest solution is to be sure all your paperwork is in order and pay close attention when they tell you what is lacking so as to avoid an issue next time. a smile and proper manners toward the person will go a long way as well. if you find them to be totally arrogant and truly just being rude in general only then might it be ok to politely remind them they actually work for you as you are a citizen as well and help pay their salary.

Why do people look down on restaurant employees?

Fast food employees can't figure out how to fill a complete order. Remembering to put fries in the bag isn't rocket science. People want to order, get their fodder and get out, not assist some pimply faced stoner with a job a chimp could be trained to do.

Why do people on Quora act like they are too good to shop at places like Wal-mart?

I don’t know where on Quora you are hanging out in order to see such a bias.I do know that there has been pushback against Walmart for some years in some circles (not all progressive, as such) as the store tends to come into a community and bulldoze all the smaller retail outfits. They even got a mention in a book about a cat that I read - the (fairly conservative) community got together to decide on what to do about an impending Walmart and concluded they couldn’t (shoudln’t? don’t remember for sure) stop it, but that local stores should focus on specialty stuff to compete. Walmart sells a bit of everything, but if you want vitamins, for example, you’ll get a wider range at the local health food store. If you want hardware you can get most basics at Walmart, but for some you need the local hardware store. And so on.Another complaint about Walmart is that suppliers face big pressure from Walmart buyers to reduce their prices. Walmart pushes a lot of merchandise, and the pressure to reduce prices may have a big impact on manufacturers income. China, with their (at the time I was reading this) lower wages was able to compete with the higher (at that time) wage plants in the US, and beat them many times. In fact, Walmart is now making a point of buying US products to sell. There are some products that are proudly displayed with ‘made in USA’ tags. There was another complaint I have seen about Walmart, another reason people had for shopping elsewhere - it went public that Walmart would hold food drives for their own employees (by their own employees) during the holiday season. This was publicized as proof that Walmart was taking advantage of their own employees, underpaying them. Walmart was obeying minimum wage laws, and the labor market allowed this. Two factors that I know of are changing wages at Walmart: 1) there is more competition for employees by other retail giants, with Target mentioned in the news pieces I have seen, and 2) minimum wage (stuck at $7.25 since 2009 and with a ‘purchasing power’ dropping due to accumulated inflation - see link below) is becoming an issue in many places - it is due to rise and Walmart is getting ahead of that wave by raising the minimum that they will pay their employees. I suspect that making these changes before minimum wage is increased by law is a way of minimizing the negative impact on Walmart’s bottom line. They are not alone, by the way.Minimum wage in the United States - Wikipedia

Can a place of employment require an applicant to be a vegetarian/vegan?

I am looking for some work online, and an ad for a receptionist at an animal rescue that is right down the street from me, says under the requirements, and I quote: "Vegetarian a must, vegan preferred"

Can they legally discriminate against someone because they eat meat? That seems a little unfair that they would pass up an opportunity at a great receptionist just because they eat meat.

Do fast food employees have a quota for sauce packets that they can give out?

Can't say the same for all but McDonald's here:The charge for extra sauces seems to vary from one store/organization to the next, but as a baseline our ordering system gives 1 sauce for 6pc/4pc nuggets, 2 for 10pc nuggets, and 3 for 20pc nuggets. The tenders get a certain amount too automatically based on number of pieces. We can input extra sauces with or without charging.Back to the charge for extra sauces though, the store I work is independent so with that some things like charges for extras can be optional or different amounts. My store specifically, we started trying to be more lenient with giving away sauces without extra charges, as long as it's reasonable. If a customer wants 1 or 2 extra for their fries or nuggets, sure no charge. If they want like 4 extra we'll charge for some of them usually unless they ordered a lot of food. The Supervisor decided it was better to be more lenient since a lot of other fast food around here will usually do the same. Happier customers, better business. We try to limit the extra cost on our end by politely asking the customer “How many?” when they request extras so we're not just wasting handfuls.
