Is anyone else losing friends over this election? (Trump vs Clinton)
I personally would do my absolute best not to associate with anyone that supports Donald Trump. Most of my friends, including Republicans, are overwhelmingly not supporting him so I have not lost anyone over this election. I do not consider support for Donald Trump to be a typical right left decision. I am a moderate conservative, and while I voted for Hillary Clinton and the Democratic candidate for my congressional district I voted Republican down ballot from there. It would ultimately come down to why they support him. I consider a vote for Donald Trump to be a reflection of someone's character, and would find it very difficult to get along someone that knows everything he has said and done and could still actually cast a ballot for him.Loyal Republican - The overwhelming majority of my friends that are Republican have said they consider him an embarrassment to the party and do not think he is fit to lead. They are either not voting or supporting Gary Johnson. I would be most sympathetic to this reason, especially if they did not follow the news. I have actually convinced some to vote for Hillary Clinton but it was difficult.Hillary Haters - Some are supporting him mainly due to hatred for Hillary Clinton. Most of my friends that do not like Hillary are supporting Gary Johnson or Jill Stein or are staying home. I do not think a rational person could see Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils, but someone being irrational isn't worth ending a friendship over.Actual Support - This would again come down to details. If someone likes his economic policies or actually believes he is socially conservative I would certainly lose respect for them, but I wouldn't end a friendship. I would absolutely end a friendship if someone actually supported him for his bigotry. I wouldn't associate with someone that believes Mexicans are rapists, that we should set up a deportation force and build a wall to keep them out. I wouldn't associate with someone that actually believes Mexicans shouldn't be judges or that women shouldn't be President in general (to be clear Trump never said that but some of his supporters have).
