Why Do I Get Angry When I Hear People Eating

Why do people eat popcorn at the movies when you cant hear a thing being said from all the crunching?

I have no problems hearing over other myself or other people eating popcorn.

Why does hearing people chew make me so angry?

I'm sure I do it too, but what the heck is wrong with me? When people eat when I'm on the phone with them or eat around me I go into a rage. Especially when my mother eats lunch meat that you're SUPPOSED to put on sandwich's. It's all sloshy and sounds slimy and gross. Ugh just the thought of it makes me mad. Is something wrong with me? I had a psychevaluation or whatever done a few years ago that said I'm slightly OCD, but not enough for a proper diagnosis.

How come I get so angry/frustrated when I hear people chewing their food loudly?

I don’t get angry, but I do get irritated and if I can I move away thinking, ‘what type of childhood education did his/her parents offer?’ A friend of mine has been known to speak directly to the person and ask them ‘have you problems with your dentures?’ which leaves them with a puzzled look, ‘as I can hear you eating and wondered if your top set was loose’. She gets away with it (so far) but I doubt i’d be so lucky. As I wrote in another answer, God gave us lips to seal around our food. They also function to reduce the amount of air and pollutants in the air that we take in with our food. I’ve noticed another unsavoury habit if the noisy eater, they can tend to belch a lot as well! What I find so sad is that they don’t notice their impact; including that in many soap operas, if they want to depict a low-class, ignorant slob the cliche is to have them eating like a pig at a trough and holding their knife and fork as if they had only just picked up a set as a child. Having said all this, there are cultures around the world where noisy eating is the norm, as well as belching deliberately to express satisfaction, and when I am in those cultures although it sometimes grates on the nerves it is understandable and so not frustrating or irritating. Also, some disabilities can mean noisy eating but that too is understandable and so not frustrating at all.Having said all that, why even irritated or frustrated? It’s because it was always drummed into me that it was not only bad manners and socially unacceptable, but there were health benefits in chewing properly. Also the aesthetic of a closed mouth over an open ‘cement mixer’ is completely different, with the closed the more attractive to the eye. Then the accompanying pig noises just were taught to be a complete no-no. Nothing worse than silence descending over a breakfast meeting and all that can be heard is the smack of someone’s lips and the crunch of toast that is then slapped around the open jaws! Even worse if they are a slurper of tea/coffee, not waiting for it to get to the right temperature to drink it.

Why do I hate the sound of people eating?

My whole family does it and I freaking hate it. They all chew with their mouths open and it makes my skin crawl. They smack their lips and chew out loud and I can hear it when they swallow. I don't make a fuss out of it because if they knew that I truly hated it, they would do it even more annoyingly just to set me off. Sometimes I will stare at them until they know I am staring at them and I will try to play it off so as not to offend them but what I really want to do is yell, "SHUT THE FUCKKKK UP!" But since I won't do that because it's wrong, I can't help but give them dirty looks when they're not looking although I want to punch their noisy mouths. Now, I don't chew with my mouth open because I know how much I hate it and I'm not an angry person but this has the ability to drive me up the wall and completely change my mood. Is it just me, am I overreacting or does anyone else get bothered by this. I also hate the sound when people squeeze a balloon or when they bite it and it makes that kind of piercing squeaky noise. I HATE that, it makes me cringe.

Can anyone tell me if I'm just a miserable prick making big things out of little things, what is wrong with me?!

Whenever I hear people chew, eat, drink, and do anything loudly from their mouths (other than speaking), I get so agitated and jittery and eventually feel like I need to lash out and yell at/hit them or just cry. What’s wrong with me?
