Why Do I Get Such Big Bruises So Often

Why does this bruise hurt so much?

Without examining your knee, it would be impossible to say exactly what damage you did to the knee. However, it is highly probable that all you really have is a bad bruise. A bruise is caused when you break blood vessels and bleed inside your skin, without a cut on the outside to let the blood out. That blood is taking up space, where there really isn't a lot of room for anything extra to be. It's not as if the knee is a big spot, or there is extra skin or tissue to spread the blood out in. So it is irritating everything and putting pressure on the nerves around the knee. Since you don't mention any swelling, and the knee is painful only to touch the spot, I'm fairly sure it's just a really bad bruise. Pain is the body's way of telling you a spot is injured and needs to be left in peace. Since the bruise is more than 24 hours old, at this point it will be best if you put mild heat on the spot, as often as you can do it. The heat will make the skin look red, as it brings in extra blood supply to help with the healing. The extra blood supply will also help carry off the damaged cells left behind by the leak. Heat will also help sooth the muscle tissues, tendons and such that are being irritated. You should probably try to give the knee a break for a few days, rest it up and not do any really strenuous dance moves. Certainly not any that involve leaping and landing on the side of the leg or stress the knees. The heat may make the bruise come closer to the skin surface as well, and that will make it look larger as well, so don't panic if that happens. The skin cells will try to push it out of the way, to the surface. It will look bigger, but it's not really. It's just easier to see, that's all. If it's still hurting in another week, then you will want to have the doctor examine the knee.

Can fish get bruises?

He can get bruises, and they are often strange colors. I would consider a larger centerpiece as the easiest way of avoiding extra damage happening to your fish. I have a Blue Gourami with a bruise on it's side right now, and I can tell you from experience that the bruise will fade, but it might not totally go away depending on how bad it is, it will get better. Now what you will have is a unique Jellybean Cichlid.

Which bug bites cause bruising?

Getting bit by "a bug" (which is a very broad, vague term; true bugs are only members of the Order Hemiptera, like stinkbugs) doesn't mean you are going to get a bruise. Bruising of bites totally depends on the person's sensitivity and reaction to the bite. When blood-feeding insects bite, some inject bits of saliva to thin the blood before sucking it back up. Many people have allergic reactions to compounds in that saliva. I know people that have no reaction whatsoever to mosquito bites, not even a little itch, and another person who would get horrible blisters from the same type of bite.  You can also bruise if you smack yourself really hard trying to kill that mosquito that is trying to feed on you!

Why does it take so long for my bruises (even minor ones) to heal?

The most likely reason for bruises to take longer to heal is a lack of Iron in the blood. The hemoglobin , red blood cells, which Ferritin supports via iron is responsible for carrying oxygen rich blood throughout the entire body.

When you get a bruise, the vascular structure (capillaries generally) leak blood. This blood is then, over time, 'cleaned up' by the body. Starting with the hemoglobin. If you are deficient in Iron, .. aka: Anemic -- you will have a much harder time of going through this process, and hence your bruising will take longer.

Signs and symptoms of iron deficiency may include brittle nails, swelling or soreness of the tongue, cracks in the sides of the mouth, an enlarged spleen, and frequent infections.

People who have iron-deficiency anemia may have an unusual craving for nonfood items, such as ice, dirt, paint, or starch. This craving is called pica. Yes weird, but true.

Some people who have iron-deficiency anemia develop restless legs syndrome (RLS). RLS is a disorder that causes a strong urge to move the legs. This urge to move often occurs with strange and unpleasant feelings in the legs. People who have RLS often have a hard time sleeping.

So indirectly, low Iron can cause rampant insomnia. Imagine that. :)

A ferritin check is a routine test at the doctor/lab and you should definitely have it checked regardless of symptoms.

Hope that helps,

Why do i bruise easily...i get bruises for no reason?

Hemophilia and Inherited Bleeding Disorders
Bruises

What causes abnormal or easy bruising?
A bruise appears when there is bleeding under the top layer of the skin. Bleeding under the skin usually occurs when small blood vessels tear at the site of an injury. Causes for easy bruising include the following:

Taking blood thinners such as heparin or warfarin.
Drinking large amounts of alcohol.
Too little vitamin C in the diet.
Certain liver and kidney diseases.
Not enough platelet cells in the blood, or platelet cells that don't work normally.
Some prescription medications, over the counter medications (including aspirin and ibuprofen), and herbal remedies can make you bruise more easily because they interfere with normal platelet function.
Blood vessels become fragile and break more easily as people age.
Persons with inherited bleeding disorders such as hemophilia or von Willebrand's disease often bruise easily because they don't have normal amounts of one or more of the proteins necessary for normal blood clotting.

When should I worry about having a lot of bruises?
You should talk to your health care provider about bruising if you have the following conditions:

If you frequently have bruises but you have not had an injury or bump at the site of the bruise.
If you frequently have bruises with lumps under them.
If you have family members who have an inherited bleeding disorder, such as hemophilia or von Willebrand's Disease.
If you have other problems with bleeding such as frequent nosebleeds that are hard to control, more bleeding than expected after surgery, childbirth, or having a tooth pulled, or if you are a woman and have heavy bleeding with your menstrual periods.

What happens when you bruise yourself with a large knife often?

I have done some research on this, and I can honestly tell you that your freind does have a genuine problem that needs specialist help... ANY form of "self harm" be it bruising, cutting, or scratching ones self is great cause for concern, as it indicates deeper mental health issues.. This doesn't mean that your friend is crazy, or a lunatic, but does mean that this situation needs to be managed...

The great news is that there IS help available, and that these types of issues can nowadays be easily managed so that they don't progress into other things...

The big problem is that your freind has to want that help.. As upsetting as it is for you, you'll not be able to help her much if she's determined to hide this from everyone... It's going to be a massive step for her.. she'll likely have to admit what is happening to her parents, and also to a specialist, and that's going to be about the most scary thing for her to do, so be gentle with her...

However, she must have told you for a reason, and it's unlikely that she told you so that you can start doing it also, more than likely she's trying to reach out because she isn't comfortable with this behavior either.. I would encourage her to take the big step and ask for help... Let her know that you will be with her through all of it, and at every step along the way if she wants you there, and try to show her that she could easily stop with just a little of the right kind of help, which nobody currently around her will be able to give..

However, if she continues to self harm, and refuses to get treatment, you'll have a tough task to perform, and that is to ensure that she gets the help she needs FOR her... Certainly if she discovers that you have betrayed her confidence, she'll feel angry, and at the extreme you may even lose the friendship, but I think it would be much safer and sensible if she got some professional help..

So... if this still continues and she won't get this dealt with, you're probably going to have to report this as something that needs investigating.. To do this, you can go see any teacher at school (or college) and ask that as far as possible, your report of concern is kept anonymous, and that you wish to reprt a fellow student for self harm..

Trust me, if this isn't treated, it can become a lot worse and yet there is plenty of excellent help available..

I do hope you manage to get your freind some help soon..
