Why Do I Have A Low Urine Output In The Daytime And Go Numerous Times At Night

I wake up three to four times at night to urinate which interrupts my sleep. How do I stop this?

If  you wake up more than once a night to pee, and the volume of your urine is not more than usual, then its called nocturia. If it is due to more fluid intake, then you usually pee more urine volume -- polyuria. Its one of the spectrum of symptoms we call Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). I don't know how old you are but if you're 50 and above, it may be an early symptom of a prostate problem like BPH.  However, this is often accompanied by other symptoms like hesitancy in initiating urination, dribbling toward the end of urination, the feeling of "residual" urine even after peeing, etc. In younger males, it may be due to an inflamed prostate. Among older females, it may be due to overactive bladder. Are you bothered by the symptom? Because if you are not, and its the only symptom that you are experiencing, chances are your doctor will just advise you to have yearly consult. If you are bothered by it, he may give you an alpha blocker. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, a simple clinic evaluation would be of help. Even if the doctor will just give you  mere advice, at least it you will have some peace of mind. Because the more you think about it, the more the symptom persists.

Why do colds get worse at night?

One factor that may contribute to the additional discomfort of cold symptoms in the evening hours is the fact that the body is now horizontal rather than vertical. Standing or even sitting in an upright position during the daytime distributes the usual amount of pressure or gravity that is constantly applied to the body. When people are lying down in a prone position, that pressure is distributed differently, and may result in additional pressure on the sinus cavities. This phenomenon will certainly increase the level of discomfort experienced by the cold sufferer.

Another aspect of our body function that may play a role in the severity of common cold symptoms is our natural body rhythm or cycle. Sometimes referred to as the circadian cycle, this process adjusts the production of hormones based on the time of day. Hormones that are producing antibodies that fight fever and infection are more active during daylight hours, and slow down production at night. This means that our natural defenses are somewhat weaker at night, and may result in an upswing in the severity of the symptoms of colds.

Insomnia and the frequent urge to pee destroying my everyday life?

I have always had problem sleeping easily under stress, but lately i'm not under any stressful situation as such, but i still keep awake and have only been sleeping like 3 hours a night for a week. I try to sleep but my mind just doesn't switch off even when i am extremely sleepy.

Another problem is the frequent urge to pee that i sometimes get every 15 minute. I just feel like psychologically i should empty my bladder once to feel better and then sleep peacefully, but this continues as a vicious cycle and i make several trips to the bathroom in one night, amounting to little sleep.

I also have this urge to pee when i am sitting or studying. I do feel irritated sitting in a fixed position, something or the other keeps bothering me. I have the habit of shaking my legs when i'm sitting still to feel better.

What is the problem here? Is it all psychiatric or physical?

My 5 year old son still needs diapers when he sleeps at night. Should I do anything?

Here is what we did with our 4-year old son.  He stopped using nappies at night about 6 months ago and these are the stages we went through with him.First Stage: All night nappy coverJust before he slept we took him to the toilet so he could wee (he could do this by himself already). In the middle of the night, just before we slept, we took him again to the toilet for a wee.He was wearing nappy the whole night.Second Stage: Half night nappy coverFrom the first stage we found that his nappy was still wet in the morning, but not before the middle of the night trip to the toilet.  So we stopped giving him nappy on the first part of the night (before the second toilet run). After the second toilet trip, the nappy was back on until the morning.Third Stage: Freedom! We continue the second stage for quite a while, months even.  And every morning we checked, together with him, whether the nappy was dry or not.  If it was dry, we gave him a praise, and if it's not we talked to him about it.Eventually we ended up with a long period where he didn't wet his nappy.  This was the time when we decided to finally ditch the nappy entirely. We did have a few 'accidents' but for most of the time he managed to hold it :)Today both parent and kid are finally free from all of this hassle.  Until the next one that is :)One thing I want to say is that the process is long and full of struggle, but trust yourself and your child that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  The key is to be honest with your child, talk to him and explain why it is important not to have nappy any more.  The ability to go to toilet himself, without adult supervision is very important here.  Because he needs to be confident that he doesn't need our help when ever he needs to do it, even at night.Good luck!

What is the best time to stop drinking water in the day so you don't need the toilet after 8/9pm?

If you go to bed between 8–9pm, it may be best to stop drinking 1.5–2 hrs prior. Try that and if it doesn't work then move to 3 hrs before bedtime. I take diuretics so, I make sure I don't take fluids 4 hrs before bedtime or else I stay up until I rid of the last drop of urine. Sleep is important to me , I once had too much salt in my diet, so I needed to drink more fluids, I got up several times a night just to urinate and I couldn't fall back to sleep for a few hours (awful!) Every time a well hydrated person takes in excess water, the kidneys will efficiently throw that water out by forming more urine than usual, and this may happen even with just one glass of water. If you're not active and stay in a cool place and don't sweat you don't need too much water. We get thirsty because our body signals that we need water to thin out our blood, thus circulates efficiently throughout the body. In the morning you find your self thirsty, drink plenty of fluids at least you have all day to pee.

What should a mother do when there is not enough milk produced while breastfeeding?

Many women go through the same struggle. Dont worry you aren't alone.Eat a more natural , healthy and nutritious diet and drink a lot of water. If you are healthy your body will carry out doing everything in a normal manner.Keep yourself well hydrated. Drink a good amount of water throughout the day. If you are dehydrated, chances are that it will adversely affect your milk supply.Adding certain foods to the diet might also help you. You can add sesame seeds , fenugreek , spinach , papaya , ginger , yogurt ,yam and different nuts to your diet.Make sure your baby latches properly when you feed him. Improper latching can make feeding slow and painful. Its said that The more you feed the better your supply becomes. So don't loose hope.Meet a pediatrician and discuss about this problem. You can also give formula milk to your child if the breast milk isn't enough.Formula milk is the closest alternative to breastmilk available.
