Why do older generations tend to look upon younger generations with disdain?
It seems that they've been doing so since the time of Plato (at least, Plato is said to have complained about how young people didn't understand the importance of learning and hard work like they did when he was a kid), and it never makes sense. While my father and my grandfather are quick to bash younger generations, we all went to visit my great-grandmother not too long ago and she began to do the same to their generations (particularly referring to my father's generation, "With that loud music can't understand what they're saying, your long hair, dirty feet, fornicating in public, your protests, etc etc." Is it possible that people just remember the best aspects of their youth while forgetting all the worst, or are they so biased in favor of their times that they just straight-up romanticize their life and times to the point of chauvinism?
Why do older people tend to have a hard time understanding mental health issues?
Because they have mental health issues themselves, or they come from a time that mental health problems didn't exsist. And or you didn't see it. You pretty much locked it away like a dirty secret and never saw it again. And didn't have a chance to"cure” for it. Or a way to treat it at home. So when now you can treat, and have s diagnosis, and all of this now.. older people from a different generation, where this wasnt spoken of, and wasn't made aware to the public as a problem, or treatable…. Plus you add the fact that now these same people are now having things like Alzheimer's, or they have things like, well I'm not sure because they lived through things like concentration camps in the second world war, and things like that … and never really dealt with it as a mental health thing. Because it wasn't dealt with, you just went on with your life as best you could.
Why do smart old people have trouble understanding new technology?
I am an old person and I have been using computers daily since the Apple IIe days. I have always been an early adopter and have kept abreast of tech right up until recently. In fact my daughters joke that if I had bought Apple shares instead of Apple products I would be a billionaire already.But lately I have fallen behind, I really have lost interest in the tech for a couple of reasons.Every time I get a new phone or a new update I have to relearn how to do stuff, because things have been changed that did not need changing. Things have been fixed that were never broken. The latest iPad update moved the time from the middle of the screen to the left have side. Whoopde do!There is so much BS on the internet it is losing its usefulness. I read somewhere that over 50% of the content if fake. Or was that statistic fake? Who knows anymore. Read some of Asimovs early stories where he talks about the vast world wide computer Multivac. He talks about how scientists and users around the world use it to look up and to publoish scholarly peer reviewed articles. HMMM!, well that never flew. I was one of the earliest internet users, being given free samples of the CERN software to play with and sending very early emails and photos to my brother in Australia. Now it has become all so soiled.I have become a hostage to businesses all over the world. Just got back from a 6 week walkabout in Europe. Trying to get internet coverage in airports and train stations and even hotels, I have to give them a raft of demographic and personal information. WHY? They say it is free service, but they need by email address and phone number. WHY? Why does the Barcelona Airport need my email address? (The solution is prepaid SIM cards, but I didn’t buy enough bandwidth and ran out.)I have been a dentist for many years, I am quite bright, I help old people with their computer woes, the local IT guys wants me to go work for him and so far there are no signs of going gaga. But the neverending drive to capture me, my demographic information and my $ is very tiring. Too tiring for tired old people.You guys have become boring and predictable and expensive.
Do you have a hard time relating to your own generation?
I'm a millennial who hates millennials. My generation is nothing but a bunch of stuck up, easily offended, cry babies. I feel like I'm the only sane one left.
Why do the older generations hate the millennial generation?
i can't speak for all older people but i certainly do not hate the younger generation. i think you have been shortchanged in your education. i hired several part time high school students and was amazed that most could not perform the simple task of counting back change to a customer nor could they spell or write a sentence correctly. most graduate high school without being able to do these simple tasks. i blame the educational system and the teacher's union for protecting bad teachers. teachers do have a hard task with parents who are absent from parenting except to let the teacher know that their kids should not be punished in any way for any infraction. so the kids knows it too and do not learn needed information to create a better life for themselves. there is enough blame to go around. girls these days are exploited sexually and are not even aware of it until they sense a heartbreaking disatifaction with their lives with no understanding why. they see it constantly on tv and in the movies but forget they do not have the resources of support that their idols have. you don't owe a boy anything and be careful what you choose to give to whom. do not cast your pearls before swine. no, i don't hate the younger generation, i feel compassion for them as they have to face many things that i never had to growing up in a more moral time when things seemed so much more simple and truth wasn't so twisted.
Do u agree with this that the new generation is more practical whereas the old generation is more idealistic ?
Very nice question, 100 points to your question ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ But unfortunately i cannot debate on this, because i believe there is a balance in both generations , when we are young we want to change the generation , when we are old we want to change the youth. Older generation shows us the path , we have energy so it's in our hands to walk through that path . We can never comment on their idealistic thoughts . They got the key with them and we got the brains .
