What is a healthy amount of weight to lose in a month?

It all depends on how much you weigh, what is your body fat composition, and how weight is distributed in your body.If you are obese, or have plenty of weight to lose, you can lose 8-10 lbs in a month comfortably-though I would advise against losing weight too quickly. This will leave loose skin and is rough on the body. If you have a higher fat to muscle ratio, you could lose the same amount of weight as well. At some point you'll stop losing weight quickly (hopefully just from fat), and it will slow to a pound a week or 4-5 pounds a month or less. If you eat a lot of processed carb, or a lot of carbs in general, you can lose a lot of weight quickly (~10lbs in just a couple of weeks). The reason behind this is that carbs add water weight so if one keeps their carbs low enough there will be less water in the body, and thus you will weigh less. The last method is most useful in the weeks just before you reach a goal weight, or when you need to look most fit. It is a short term method that I would advise not staying on too long as your brain and body uses carbs for thinking processes, hydration, and cellular functions. A month at the most on the last one and you should be good.I would stick to the method of reducing you're caloric intake 500 calories if you aren't active to lose about a pound a week. Should you want to incorporate exercise, only reduce you're calories by 200 or 300 and you're results will about the same.

What is the safe maximum weight to lose within 6 months?

Bit of a generalized question because everyone is different. The standard answer & approach is 1–2 pounds per week but to cover a wide spread of weights, I’d say 1% of your body weight per month.A person who is just chubby and looking to lose their last 30 pounds might take 6 months to do so….whereas an obese person, as you might see on Biggest Loser, could lose upwards of 100 pounds in 6 months of hardcore dieting & exercise. What I can tell you is that setting goals, shooting for numbers and playing with stats may seem like a good approach but in some way it’s irrelevant…in the end you need to meet each day with doing the best you can do. Exercise, eat clean and for lack of better explanation: eat as little as you reasonably can without taking yourself to the point of wanting to quit. Point is, you can only do the best you can…setting numbers or percentages is just a pre-game thing we do to get a sense of control. It’s a bit like wanting to know how our body breaks down fat; whether you understand it or not, the process happens. A surgeon might explain what he’s going to do during your procedure, in the end it’ll happen regardless of whether you understand or know about it. So, set your goals, post your number, draw-up your numeric game plan but in the end it’ll still come down to it being a long journey which is won day by day.
