Why Do I Wake Up With Back Pain When I Sleep Lying Flat

Lower Back Pain when I wake up?

Every time I wake up, I have severe lower back pain. I am a healthy 30-year old male. When I wake up, I feel like my back has been arched the entire night. Like if I am lying face up, you could slide your hand between my lower back and the mattress. I have tried sleeping with pillow under my knees, but it doesn't help. I have a Classic (original) Tempurpedic Mattress that is about 1.5 years old.
An hour or 2 after I wake up, the pain and soreness subsides. I don't like taking many medications or pills. I have been doing lots of stretching, but still does not help that much.

WHAT CAN I DO????

Why do I get extreme lower back pain when laying on my side?

Lower back pain when lying is a special type of back pain that could indicate a serious problem with your spine. If you are experiencing Lower Back Pain when lying down, the first and most important area to look at is your laying position – in particular if you are uncomfortable when lying in bed. Learning to sleep and lay down correctly is very important in stopping the onset of low back pain.Alright, so you’re going to have to trust me on this next one – your spine wants to be perfectly aligned all day.Standing, sitting, walking, sleeping – your spine really only has one optimal position, although it’s obviously built to accommodate flexibility and constant motion. When you mess up that natural, optimal alignment for too long (like when you sit at work for 8 hours and get terrible lower back pain) it gives you terrible back painHere’s your normal spine:Problems and Proper Sleep Positions To Prevent Back Pain When SleepingProblem #1: The lower back is overly archedDepending on how tight your hips are, if your legs are too straight, it will pull the lower back into an arched position. If your legs are too bent, tight hamstrings will pull the lower back into an overly-rounded position. The key is to find the sweet spot in-between.Problem #2: The back is overly roundedFor many of us with tight hamstrings, tucking the legs up too close to the chest will result in an over-rounding of the lower back.Proper Position When Sleeping On Your Side In Fetal PositionThere are a number of reasons for this: first – just from personal experience, sleeping on your back is generally the easiest way to aggravate the fewest number of things (well, except for snoringwell, except for snoringWhen you sleep on your side, you have to worry about your back alignment, neck alignment, your hips twisting, etc. When you sleep on your back there is less than can go wrong and fewer variables to experiment with to get comfortableI hope my answer can help you anyway. Why does sleeping on the floor hurt my back?

What do you mean “sleeping on the floor hurts your back”?Do you mean after waking up because of sleeping on the floor, your back starts to ache or when you try to sleep on the floor and it “hurts your back?”Usually, to try and sleep on the floor can be uncomfortable and can be for numerous reasons. The main reason is because your body is used to the soft cushion/foam in your mattress. The body has grown use to laying and resting on soft surfaces. Being overweight can have an effect on the pain experienced while sleeping on the floor as well. Other unusual reasons could be due to some problems you may be experiencing in your spine/back which results in you being uncomfortable. However, there have been many studies conducted and evidence proving sleeping on the floor is good for overall health, for most individuals at least. (unlikely for those with severe problems on/in/with their back)When we sleep on a firm, flat surface, our body, especially our spine, has a chance to realign to its natural posture much more easily. When we don't have a mattress hugging our body, far more spaces open up between us and the floor.

Does sleeping on the floor help back pain? I've been experiencing back pain for about a week.

For lower back pain, the most relaxing position to lie in is the static back position. Google it. It's well known. Stay in the position for at least 20 minutes, two or three times a day.You can sleep in this position, lying on your back with a large cushion under your legs. But, lower back pain is usually caused by tight muscles attached to your pelvis that take first the pelvis out of alignment. The bones above the pelvis then start to move out of alignment, 'in sympathy', otherwise you'd be walking around in a contorted position. Diagnosing which muscles are the cause of the problem is not difficult. It's usually hamstring and buttock muscles.  http://www.pro-activerehab.com/m...The chances of a GP knowing how to diagnose which muscles are causing the problem and then prescribing the exercises to restore poor skeletal alignment to good are probably quite remote. They will just whip out the pad. The orthopod will, likely as not whip out the scalpel. These people don't 'do' exercises!Spending time each day doing the flexibility exercises that get your pelvis back into better alignment is your ticket to relieving your pain.Lower back pain is not causes by NOT lying on a flat surface!Get thee to the gym, the new frontline of primary health care.If you use the contact form at http://www.globalbackcare.com/ I'll send you the exercise program.Depend on how serious you are about doing the exercises, it will take you between 10 and 80 days to feel like you've solved the problem.Regards and best wishesJohn MillerE&OE

Why do I get back pain when I lay down for a short time?

Hi,This really depends on how you lay, on your back or on your side? Different fix but same concept. It revolves around keeping your spine straight and neutral to your hip.If you are a side sleeper experiencing lower back pain, depending on your build and the width of your shoulder an hip, laying on the side may alter your spine from a straight line to a curve. This would cause concentrated pressure points in your lower back because your lower back muscles are trying to compensate to reestablish balance, causing you severe pain.Try using a pillow between your thighs to give your legs spacing and support. This will set your hip neutral so you can avoid the drag on your spine, allowing it to be straight. No contorted spine=no lower back pain.I would suggest you to buy a specially designed knee pillow to fit between your legs to keep you spine straight and neutral to relieve pain. Why do people sleep laying down?

If you sleep standing up, your blood will collect at the bottom of your body because of gravity so the brain and head etc. would not get enough blood or oxygen. When you are lying down it is easiest for the blood to get all around the body because it doesn't have to work against gravity.

Leg pain while lying down.?

For the past couple days whenever I get into bed and lay down I feel this burning sensation in my right leg. It starts from my mid shin/calf, and goes up into the right side and back of my knee. It's not bad enough for me to not fall asleep, so I fall asleep. After having slept for about 2-3 hours, I wake up and my leg feels like it is being set on fire. Not just from the mid shin/calf, but from the top of my foot all the way up to my mid thigh. It is impossible to sleep and I have to get up and get Ibuprofen, and then I lay there in agony waiting for it to kick in and fall asleep. I'll then wake up normally the next day and the pain will be completely gone. It does not come back until I get back into bed the next night.

Breast Feeding, and have pain in breast when laying down?

I am currently breast feeding, and I'm having a problem when I sleep at night with pain in my breast. The right one is way worst than the left one, but the both hurt some. They hurt of the night when I lay down on my side, but I can sleep on my back. They seem to hurt way worse from my bra, because I can take my bra off and it helps greatly, but then I leak all over my shirt.

The main pain is in one spot, on the lower left side of my right breast, and it's kind of a burning pain, but when it gets really bad, from me laying on my side, I wake up with pains shooting threw me into my back.
Any Idea what this could be. Thanks
