Why Do People Bother Making Fake Accounts

Why do you think people make fake myspace accounts?

Okay, I am 12 years old and you may think people may fake myspace accounts cause they have low self esteem. But I have like 50 fake myspace accounts of celebrities and of regular people. I get it off photobucket so people believe me all the time...and I won't tell you where I get the pictures for a celebrity. I don't do it because I have low self esteem and because I am a loser (which im totally not) I do it because I am a writer and I have this wild imagination so I let all my thoughts out on myspace accounts and no it's not a childish account and you would so believe I am a teenager...lolz...why do you think people make fake myspace accounts?

Honestly, people do it because Quora and Quorans reward such behavior. Most of us are not so important or successful in real life. Writing honest answers using honest credentials fetched may be a dozen upvotes and comments.I do not have a profile credential. Quora keeps telling me that having a good credential helps me get more views. I have tried editing my credential a couple of times, but it got collapsed because apparently ‘cynical optimist’ and ‘Trust me , I’ve got this.’ aren’t helpful enough. Now, what is a helpful credential? “IITian”, “Professional psychologist” these are helpful credentials. The problem is that I am none of that. This leaves me with the following options :Revealing more personal details than what I am comfortable with.Using a dishonest credential.Keeping my profile credential blank and being happy with fewer views and upvotes. This is quite an easy choice for me, my profile credential stays empty but it is easy to see why some people might be tempted to use a fake credential especially when having “IITian” in the credential is almost guaranteed to ensure thousands of followers.Using dishonesty gives people who have never had any attention in real life taste something they have never had before- attention and a sense of accomplishment. So, it is not difficult to see why some people are tempted to use fake credentials and identity.

There could be no. of reason why one create a Fake account on Facebook. Some of them do it to hard others while others do it for fun and not particularly annoying anyone in that process. Spamming and promotion of their stuff. FB blocks the accounts if someone try to penetrate their securities so Hackers usually create FB fake accounts for hacking  as no one wants to risk their original account. (One of my friend has lost his account while doing some foolish stuff on Facebook)I have two FB account, one is real and other is for testing purposes. (nothing blackhat)Then there are people who had 4-5 FB accounts just to get more promotional offers from FB. (For example Freecharge give 50 rs free recharge when you login with your FB account)Some advertised make fake account for displaying ads on Facebook. (not sure why they do that)Psycho lover sending spam message and comments to their crush and stalking them on FB. (very bad)But there are couple of ways to find out if the profile is fake or not. The best of all is reverse Google search the profile images. More can be find here at How to Identify Fake People on Facebook

Why Do Some People Make Fake Accounts To Give Themselves Best Answers?

Such actions violate the Yahoo! Answers community guidelines as it is seen as cheating and point gaming.

Such activity rarely goes unnoticed by the Yahoo! Answers staff and community alike, the result being both accounts are generally suspended. Therefore anyone who does attempt to use multiple accounts will normally amount to one thing, a lot of wasted time and effort.

As to why some people do it... they would rather not take the time to help users out yet see Yahoo! Answers as more of a game.

All the best

Doesn't it annoy you when people make fake accounts or use other peoples pictures on here?

no, doesn't bother me. it's rather harmless and has no effect on me.
i just don't understand it. i don't understand the novelty of being another person/persona (maybe that means i'm self absorbed, but i like to share my thoughts and life..i don't understand being gratified by something not from ..you) and i don't understand using a fake photograph as the compliments would make my self esteem lower.. since it was complimenting someone else, and a constant reminder i had to fake my appearance.

the only time i found it annoying was many many years ago someone faked my damn near entire life. my photos, photos of my friends, my blog entries. i just found it so bizarre and creepy. but i was also a teen and prone to being pissy for no reason. i should have taken it as a compliment. especially since i was really boring and quite fat lol.

I’m talking to an old flame on Instagram and he made a fake profile to talk to me, lol so he named it after his favourite actor. He finds it funny that people tag him in things. I don’t genuinely know why he needs a fake profile although I’ll find out one day!Don’t take it so seriously about who the profile copies, it’s just a querk to life!

Honestly, I never understood this but let me take a shot at it.Why do people create fake accounts with profile picture of really pretty girls and follow everyone? Here are a few points below according to me:There's a high in the feeling of being popular, and some people go to any length to achieve this. Be it even impersonating someone from the opposite gender.Desire to malign someone's image by creating a fake profile of that person and taking a dig at them by doing whatever wrong possible. This could just be plain revenge too.Possibility of interacting with people of opposite sex by being their friend, talking to them regularly, flirting over comments, etc. In a recent news here in Bangalore, a guy was having a fake profile as a girl on Tinder (the dating app) when asked he said he was gay and this was the best possible medium to meet guys.To have a good laugh at silly people who act naive and flirt with the fake profiles.Have too much time to kill with their zero social life.Tips to avoid:I can't really say to not look beautiful..can I? :DWell, a few things to make sure this doesn't happen to you:Know about all the your personal photographs which are available on the internet. A simple Google search would do the trick. Go to the individual websites like suppose say Facebook, there's an option to even lock your profile picture...so when people click on that it wouldn't enlarge. Do it. A low resolution picture would discourage someone from taking it for any purpose.Report, Report, and Report any of your impersonations or impersonation of a person you know. Ask your friends and followers to do so too. People would be glad to help, and more is the number of complaints quick is the action taken by site moderators.Learn to ignore and don't let that bother you, after someday even that person would lose interest. Hang out a disclaimer on your profile saying that here's the link to the fake one and request them to report it. I am a person who advocates aggressive actions in this case, and would ask you to follow this as the last resort.Hope this helps, and may the fakes reach their graves!Thank you for asking Pradeeta :)

By the time you ask on Quora "Why do people act fake?", you've probably had enough of it. Right? The simple answer is "Because they believe it is in their best interest." That does not mean acting fake really is in their best interest. It might even be the worst way to behave, but that isn't the point. They believe it's for the better. You and I, we all do it too. Perhaps not the acting fake bit, I'm sure, but the bit where you do what you believe is in your best interest. Doing what we think is best is the only genuine thing we get to do. If you think about it some, you'll soon realize that we don't even have a choice about it. We will do what we believe to be the best thing for us. Even if it means following the urge to put your own life at risk the rescue a stranger in peril.People don't decide to act fake. They choose to do and say things in the way they think will be best for them. You might have a different perspective and understanding of what might really be best for them, but that matters to you much more than it matters to them. Even your finding their behaviour fake and therefore annoying attest to what you believe is best for you. To be less annoyed by others, less threatened and more accepting and compassionate, you have two options. Either you blindly and unconditionally accept others as perfectly legitimate specimens of fellow human beings, or you seek to understand how they get to believe that what they choose to say and do is in their best interest. Start with yourself, for practice. Don't be ashamed to admit to yourself that what annoys you about others are the direct consequence of what you believe to be in your best interest. Run with it. Question your motives not to invalidate them, but to understand them. Understand how you think the things you say and do is in your best interest. Once you understand yourself that way, it will be easier to get to understand others in a similar manner. Basically, the question to ask isn't why people act fake, but why you find it objectionable and even why you see their actions as fake.

Can people make up a fake ebay account to outbid people but not pay,- just for fun?

Yep, you can but you will eventually get busted. It's called shill-bidding. My fiance & I are ebay sellers, and when we first got into it, we had accounts removed for doing that. People usually only do that to their own auctions though, the point is to get your final winning amount higher.

You have to enter credit card info, but its very easy for most of the scammers to steal one, or people to use a second card to bid on their own stuff. Most ebay scammers will want to pay you by cashier's check, anyways.

He is probably a scammer, that is their usual M.O. I have dealt with tons of them since 2003 and especially be leery if its in Malaysia or a Southeast Asian country (don't know why but 70% of the scammers I've encountered are from there.)
But if you're not sure, just wait to see if they pay and don't ship your item right away. We had one guy that kept paying for a 300 dollar item, and the balance would be taken back the very next day. He did that about 4 times before Ebay got light of it and suspended his account. After that we always wait and see if the funds get taken back from Paypal after payment, then file an Unpaid Item to get the listing fees back.
