Why Do People Dumpster Dive For Coupons

How do people get boxes of Sunday coupon inserts (Red Plum, Smart Source)?

You start by asking your friends for their papers and coupon circulars that they don't use. Then you also stop by your local dollar store and pick up a few Sunday papers every week. Next you fill in the extra gaps by buying coupons from sites like http://brandnamecoupon.com

How are people able to obtain so many coupon inserts without having to buy the paper? Where do these sellers get them from?

More likely than not, the couponers either get coupons via the regular channels like the Sunday newspaper, direct mail. There are also lots of online coupon sites where you can print your own coupons. But here’s how most of the people who are a bit more on the extreme side of couponing do it: they dumpster dive or have a friend who works at a store that sells newspapers. If the papers don’t sell, the store usually throws them away. Or if any of your friends, relatives or neighbors subscribe, ask if they will give you the coupon sections or the coupons they do not use.I will tell you this: it’s cheaper to subscribe to the newspaper. Most offer Sunday only subscriptions for around a third of the newsstand cost. The local paper here will allow you to get multiple copies of newspapers delivered to your home. I used to have three Sunday papers delivered to my house. I had a seven day subscription + 2 additional Sunday papers delivered to my house.

Why Do People Hate K-Mart So Much?

I like K-Mart, I would rather buy clothes from there instead of Walmart because Walmart's clothes shrink.........

Where in Manchester nh is a place that I can go dumpster diving for coupons?

Why would you need to go through a dumpster? Manufacturers give away the coupons for free. That's the whole idea.

How do I find more coupons for groceries?

Depending on where you live, I believe the Saturday newspaper is always full of adverts and coupons. You can also sign up at your preferred store and as a member you get coupons. This sign up is Free. It’s a store card they scan before you check out. It subtracts the appropriate amounts for everything that is on sale that you bought. Some stores even have kiosks where you scan your card and it tenders out coupons you can use.And some stores give rewards for you purchasing certain products. Like CVS, you earn extrabucks. I used to go to CVS all the time, there’s be times I bought $100 worth of stuff and would end up paying like $20 because of all the coupons and extra bucks I earned. But I haven’t found a grocery store like that yet. But like I said, get your store card, it does help a bit.You can also find coupons online, but they must be ones that are valid and can be used at the certain store you are at. So before you shop you need to ask customer service if your coupons are valid there.

Would you ever do extreme couponing?

It looks so cool! And who wouldn't want to spend $10 on hundreds of dollars worth of groceries? The only drawback is that the people don't necessarily buy things they want/need. For example, 50 bottles of Vitamin Water... well, wouldn't a couple gallons of milk be more useful? Or the whole 30 jars of peanut butter. Ok, I like peanut butter, but I most certainly don't need that much and would have no way of using all of it before it expires. Very interesting concept though!

Ordering Coupon Inserts?

no.
I saw on tv the other day on a special that companies are very strict about their coupon inserts and will fire a person if they take an extra insert home from their job. People get inserts from the garbage cans (but there are laws against dumpster diving in some areas). Apartment dwellers and home owners usually get in the mail the Red Plum and grocery coupons and there are lots of coupon places online to get other coupons from.

How do I get started couponing without spending money on coupons?

Two words for you: DUMPSTER DIVING. It is *slightly* illegal but nobody actually cares. Usually on sundays, grocery stores dump the unsold papers to trash on the back of the store, including the coupon inserts. It is your best bet to find bulk amount of coupons. If you have a store clerk that you know well, you can ask them to save the coupons for you prior to dumping the papers. Again, it is frowned upon by the store management but if the person likes you enough, they might take a small risk for you.

What's the most annoying thing about coupons?

When we used to buy Sunday papers many years ago, the expiration date on the printed coupons was within reason and gave you a chance to see if you would need the product before it expired.  These days they are often only good for a week and almost never on an item on sale.  Store coupons are not always kept up-to-date in those trays some stores still allow on their shelves and you see something you want to buy WITH the coupon but it is expired or it wants you to buy three or more of the product.I've watched that couponing show and I admire their tenacity but I just can't see dumpster diving for the coupons, buying dozens of weekend papers, using products I might not like or having a place to store the spoils - I live in a condo!  It is great to use a coupon for something I can really use and I do whenever I can but there are other things in life besides clipping and sorting for marathon shopping trips to grocery stores.  I try to use the store loyalty cards more than coupons and save 35% - 50% most weeks with little stress other than making out a shopping list.
