Why Do People Freak Out About Small Things But Ignore Real Animal Abuse

What is the most gross thing you've seen on Animal Cops/Precinct?

Think d worst 've seen..cant recall from animal cops/precinct or somewer else but it was bout this old lady that adores pekingese dogs n other animals..she used to enter em in competitions,shows..etc..then her fav pekingese died..n she got new ones....then as age caught up wid her..she wasnt payin as much attn to her dogs n other animals. She was actually quite well off n weird thing was, she only lets her brother visit her in only 1 particular room, the tea room..everythin is clean, shining silver n she's always dressed so prim n proper. She even owned antique furniture n stuff.Only after she died, ppl around her realized the truth. After she passed her brother had to pack all her things up,he had to call for animal control n a cleanin crew or somethin coz beside that clean proper room...all d other rooms in the house was in horrible state.there were dead stinkin corpses of dogs everywer..basement , bedrooms , bathrooms...she even had her precious favorite dog's dead body wrapped in a pretty box wid ribbons n a wrapper , n a few other nicely stacked in her closet as if it was some precious clothing. There were animalpoo all over d place..her bed..bathroom.She pratically slept in animal poop all d time..wer no one else has seen.Birdcages wid birds that r long dead..lil tiny bones n wots left of d feathers.Roaches everywer. When they started to dig into d house a lil more...there were dead animals everywer...even 1 chihuahua in a cage so small wid d head stickin outta a small hole coz d food bowl n water bowl was bout 2feet away from her. They said d dog must have starved itself to death tryin to get to d food bowl. When they went into d build-in garage..they actually found a dead pony..n u wudnt believe it..its body had decomposed so badly that its already now apart of d cement floor..wots left was d skin n rib bones stickin outta d cement..imagine my horror..it was unbelievable! after they "cleaned" her whole place up..they counted around over 50 dead dogs n other animals. They said she luved her animals so much that even when dead it shall never leave her side...n thats bout d worst thing i've ever seen! So..tell me wot u tink?? :o)

There are only a few I can think of, and Amanda Nally nailed a few of them. In my experience of owning dogs my entire life, that's 32 years of canine love(lol). The only time my dog didn't like someone for “no reason” was because she didn't like men in hats. Every time a man came over with a hat on, she'd sit across the room and growl until they removed it.The other reason, is because there is a reason, you just don't know it yet. I had a Chesapeake bay retriever who was a huge teddy bear, he was frightened by me turning on the lamp. Lol Not one, but two of my ex boyfriends got bit in the buttcheek by him. They weren't injured, only a little pinch, but there was something about them that dog didn't like. Something about their intentions, their personality, their “aura” if you will, just seemed off, and to my Bubba, he was only protecting me from the negative vibes he felt. Always trust your dog, their instincts are far more evolved than many of ours.As I stated before, in another answer a woman stated her dogs acted up around a man who was extremely tall, and that's also another factor, is just the feeling of a new person, and many times there's no danger. But sometimes, there is danger. Such as my Australian blue heeler, who acts like a PTSD victim (ZERO disrespect towards those who have it, I do know it's a very serious condition and I'm not trying to make light of it). She's never been abused, has had a great life, but saw 2 dogs die and her owner(my mother) left her and never came home(mom had cancer, went to hospice where she died shortly after), so she's always been very leary ever since. If my dads not home, and my daughter has a friend over(she's 6), Sunday(Aussie) will be very careful of the girls and stay out of their way. When mom comes to pick friend up, Sunday looms next to me, acting like she's ready for attack. Thankfully they know she's harmless, and has actually taken a great liking to her teen daughter. She gives the impression of being vicious, but isn't in the slightest. You know your dogs better than anyone else, so just follow your gut. ❤

There are many ways to discipline your dog. Be careful when using them that you are disciplining your dog while they are doing the bad behavior and not after they’ve quit. For example, if your dog is barking in the back yard and every time you come to the door, he stops barking and you yell at him, he may not get that you are yelling at him for barking earlier. If you yell at him every time he barks at someone, he might associate your barking with other people showing up and assume the other people are bad. You don’t yell at him when they aren’t around, right? Here are seven ways to discipline your dog from the book How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With:Distract. Make a loud noise to distract your puppy from whatever they are doing. A loud yell, a slap on the table or shake a jar with a few pennies in it. This should startle him and focus his attention on you.Scruff-Shake. Grab the fur under his ear on his neck and shake – a “brief but brisk shake”. This works best if you catch them in the act and the scruff-shake is a surprise.Put-Down. Push the puppy over (quickly but gently) either on to his side or onto his back and lean over him. This reinforces that you are dominant.Isolation. Say no and then ignore your puppy. Puppies are very social and they won’t like it that you aren’t paying attention to them.Time-Out. Put the puppy outside for a few minutes and then try the same situation again. Or you can stop playing or interacting with the puppy for a few minutes, if you were part of the situation.Squirt Bottles. Say “off” or “no” and squirt your dog at the same time. Water guns make this fun for you. Unfortunately many dogs (and cats) find this a fun game as well. Rutherford and Neil suggest using vinegar then, one part vinegar to six parts water.Sit Command. Right after saying no, say sit. This gives your dog something else to do other than the bad thing. I’ve also found it effective to just say sit. Usually when they sit they can no longer do whatever it is you didn’t like.My dad used to swat our puppy with an empty plastic milk jug or rolled up newspaper. It was probably the distraction that worked, not the being hit. What methods of discipline work best for you and your dog?

Why do people hate pitbulls so much?

because A) media is corrupted and makes it seem like pitbull attacks are so much more common then they are, or that they attack more often than any other breed (they dont). There are lots of dog attacks every day by various species BUT the media just doesn't report about it. Why? Because people don't care if a lab or a beagle bites someone, make a story on that 100 people might read it. Make a story on a pit bull attack 500 people will read it. Pitbull attack gain more intrest so media reports them more often than other breeds.

B) people are ignorant. They believe all the bull crap they hear and there are A LOT of crazy myths out there. People don't bother to do real research. it's always "i heard this" or "i heard that"

c) They are fight dogs. No doubt about it. People use them to fight. When people think "pit bull" they think this monstrous dog used for dog fights.

Basically it all comes down to human ignorance because ANYONE who knows about dogs, any professional, anyone who's had pitbulls, just in general people who have had more experience and education working with dogs will tell you, it's not the breed it's the deed. Just like any other dog as long as they are bred properly, trained well and treated right they will be one of the best family dogs you can own. It's the people that LACK the education about animal behavior, training or just general dog knowledge that think every pit is gonna rip your face off

there's also many dogs pits bred poorly or taken from litters to soon, that causes behavior problems. They are also a bread that's highly abused. I recently read something talking about up to 77% of reported dog abuse cases are pits.

I reccemend an interesting (but depressing) documented called "beyond the myth". It talks about some of these issues as well as others and all the corrupt issues involving breed discrimination. The part talkin about the role of the media in the case of "pit bulls are bad" was very interesting. You can probably find it on netflix or youtube.

What should i do about my friend who hurts animals???

And what makes you think that throwing a frog is ok? Frogs think. Frogs feel. All living things do. Just because its small doesnt mean it cant think or feel anything, how stupid are you? If you dont like it then why help him? your pathetic.
Im sorry but this made me really angry. Stop being such a cruel, sad pair of kids and leave animals alone.

This "friend" of yours need help...some sort of anger management or something. The next step up will be hurting children, bullying etc. Like another answerer said, this is how many killers started out. Im not saying that that is what will happen but something needs to be done, he has a behavioural problem. Tell his parents or a teachers or something.

Am I abusing my dog with weed?

I want to hear what everyone has to say; don't be afraid to call me the scum of the Earth. Please do read the entire thing though.

I am a marijuana smoker. I should add productive one with a good paying job. I also love my Dachshund with all my heart. Three times now I have seen her sitting next to me in her favorite chair, and I decided to get her high.

I very slowly blow the smoke into her nose while rubbing her ears and then I say "good girl good girl" and pet her to show her I'm not being rude. She actually doesn't mind the smoke. She sniffs like she is very curious and doesn't make any attempt to leave the chair.

Almost instantly shes acts like she does when we are about to go out for a walk. Really excited and wagging her tail. In fact it's the only time I have ever seen her that playful. I have a great time play wrestling with her on the floor for half an hour or so. She seems so happy high, and is so playful.

Anyway, do you think doing this in extreme moderation is abuse? The only thing I was thinking about was respiratory problems because of just smoke, but I have to believe that getting her high like that once a month would not have a negative affect. I am a lot more concerned with pet owners who have second hand smoke or cigarettes around the dog. Even more concerned with pet owners who feed their pets wrong and let them get overweight, or leave them alone, etc.

So the point is I love animals with all my heart! Am I doing something bad here?

Cats are really independent and individual. Small enclosed spaces, such as crates, carriers and yes, boxes, can freak them out. Especially if they have been contained, or traveled in one. Cats usually hate traveling in vehicles. Some get used to it, but most don’t. And if she has had numerous owners, she has definitely learned that being contained in any small enclosed thing, such as a box , results in something negative impacting her life. Don’t worry. The best thing you can do for an animal that has been uprooted is to allow them to regain control over their preferences. They will learn to trust you, by you allowing to be afraid of something. Save forcing them to do something for a real battle, like going to the vet. Over time they will realise that they will always end up back at home with you and the battles will be less traumatic for both of you.
