Why Do People Often Disregard Facts As Nothing More Than Conspiracy Theories

Why do people laugh at conspiracy theories?

I find it almost insane considering all the conspiracies that are now fact
maybe these delusional tube brains should google water gate or Clinton saying I did not have sexual relations with that woman. I think we have a society of cowards who would rather other people think for them as they don`t have the guts to deal with a disturbing truth. The question is simply asking why people find it hard to accept people in power lie people always lie whats so weird about that

Why do people think "conspiracy theorists" are crazy? There have been conspiracies throughout history when power and money are involved, why would there not be conspiracies now?

The problem isn’t necessarily believing in conspiracies. Every so often, a good conspiracy does come to the surface, with good, solid facts to support it, but they are often received with skepticism for merely sounding kindof like the typical conspiracy. The problem with conspiracy theories in general, is that most of them have to be believed by ignoring substantial facts. Just to cover a few examples: people who believe the world is flat have to ignore everyone who designs GPS systems, or use sextants to navigate the globe; people who believe that Lee Harvey Oswald didn’t shoot JFK have to ignore Oswald’s life leading up to that point; people who dismiss the holocaust have to ignore the documentation provided by Nazis themselves; people who believe that the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks have to ignore the loss of structural integrity that steel suffers when heated to high temperatures; people who believe that the lunar landings were a hoax have to ignore the giant rockets that were big enough to get to the moon; people who believe in catastrophic climate change have to ignore satellite data and the climate models that have consistently predicted that the climate will be hotter (sometimes much hotter) than has actually happened; people who believe that Jews and control all our governments and the financial industry have to ignore just how powerless Jews have been in preventing their persecution; people who believe that vaccines are harmful have to ignore the significant harm that comes from the diseases they are designed to prevent.I know that I’m going to be considered a conspiracy theorist for at least on of the things I have put on the list; however, I have also come to notice this: you can expect the typical person to accept one or two conspiracy theories (even blatant ones) to be true — however, the crazy people are the ones that believe a dozen or more to be true. And they are crazy, because in order to accept so many of them to be true, you have to ignore a lot of reality.

Why are atheists more likely to believe in conspiracy theories?

Do you have some stats to support your claim?

Do you have some basis for saying that the readership for ATS is "mainly an atheist one"?

I.e. it took me about five seconds to find these:
"Atheism is a fraud"
"ATHEISM: The Stupidest Religion of All"
"Atheism – The complete disregard of scientific fact"
"Atheism is just plain stupid."
"Atheism is Scientifically Impossible."
"Is Atheism a religious/blind faith belief?"

Do you feel any need whatsoever to support claims before asking people to "explain" them?
