Why Do People On Pawn Stars Sell Amazing Stuff So Cheap

Pawn Stars on History: Why in the show they only buy the stuff. They never show anyone buying any stuff the one they purchased. Why so?

Well I think you have not seen full seasons ,one day an old man who got down from rolls Royce and came to buy cufflinks from the and you won't believe rick was taking teaching from him about cufflinks. If you have yesterdays i.e 9 march episode then you must have seen a guy buying JFK's cigar case.He bought the cigar case for 75000$wow

Do the people on Pawn Stars, who sell an item for a profit, have to declare the gain on their income tax?

Short answer, yes. I am assuming that Rick Harrison is incorporated, or in a partnership with “the Old Man” (rest in peace) and his son (no, I don’t think Chumlee is anything but an employee). Not only do they pay taxes on their TV actor pay, but if their gross product resales exceed what they paid for items sold and their overhead costs, then they have taxable income which (remember Richard Hatch from Survivor) are subject to tax. Yes, any interest from loans is taxed as well (they are pawn brokers, after all)

Why do people bring their historical items to Pawn Stars instead of taking them to museums for everyone to enjoy?

Let’s see:Most people likely don’t even consider a museum - If they find something that appears to be a valuable antique, they probably think “sell” a long time before they think “donate.” They may never consider “donate.”Most of the historical items that are shown being brought to Pawn Stars wouldn’t really be wanted by museums - As Bill McDonald noted museums have themes and most of the items brought into Pawn Stars don’t fit those themes. It’s not as if people are strolling the doors with Faberge eggs, pre-Columbian statuary or a Degas painting, all of which museums would stumble over themselves to acquire. You don’t get on television very often if you donate to a museum - Maybe in the smaller cities you might. However, that’s local, and not national coverage, as being on Pawn Stars would be.

Is Pawn Stars Completely fake?

I noticed this too right now while watching Episode 7 on my DVR with the coke machine....so I googled it to find out if anyone else found it fishy.

My thought was that it's Episode 7, a very early episode and they had to drum up ratings a little and find a way to get the American Restorations guys in on Pawn Stars for the "spin off."

There's no way Ron (Rick's Restorations brother) would sell an old coke machine "that has been in my family for years" and "I don't know anything about it" to Rick Harrison (pawn stars guy) then Rick Harrison ends up taking it to Ron's brother Rick to fix the same item that is "in his family."

Ron seems like a goof on American Restorations, so I could see him selling scrap pieces, but this story doesn't ad up.

Definitely fake, and definitely makes me question everything...kinda ruins the show...

But WE ALL KNOW that the show is pretty edited/staged because in the preview clips (before the commercial/introduction) we hear lines that we don't hear later in the story, and in fact lines that CONFLICT with what they do show us. For instance in one episode some guy is trying to sign a letter by Winston Churchill and Dana (an expert) says in a preview clip "We have a big problem here, this is Auto Pen, not a real signature" then we see the scene and he looks at it and instantly says "this is definitely not auto pen" and that scene is filming Dana the whole time (i.e. it was not "cut/spliced" it was one rolling scene) so there must have been two takes...

Why do Pawn Shops rip off people so bad and why don't these people sell their stuff on EBAY?

I have had considerable experience with buying and selling over the years. I can tell you that an appraisal is just a general guideline. Something is worth exactly what someone else is willing to pay for it. That might be $2000, $5000, or $50. You can hold out to try to get a better price but sometimes you will be holding on to it for years.

Pawn shops have to pay their people. They have a lot more people working for them than you see in the TV shows. They also have to pay the power bill, insurance, etc. It's not cheap running a business. Add to that the fact that they have to invest their money in an item that might sit on the shelf for three years before they sell it and you can see why the offer much less than the appraised value.

Many of the people who bring in items to pawn shops don't want to take the time to try and sell their items on the net. They need money now, not a couple of weeks from now. Lots of folks are just trying to keep their rent paid or not lose their car.

Do I have to pay taxes for things I sell at a pawn shop? Do I have to give my SSN to the pawn shop?

If you are selling to the pawn shop it is a non-taxable transaction. A sale to a final user is taxable.

Why does Rick Harrison of the Pawn Stars never buy Hitler memorabilia?

Just curious. I've been watching the show and I love it. And one thing I noticed is Nazi memorabilia always creeps him out. Is he not buying any even when he has the chance to because he's scared or for other reasons?

Do you think Pawn Shops rip off people that are dumb, poor, and broke. ?

Do you ever watch Pawn Stars or Cajun Pawn and they bring an expert in for appraisal and authentication. The expert values the item, and then then the "MARK" or fool, ends up taking less than half the appraised value

One Example:  The expert, on a Les Paul guitar says it is the HOLY GRAIL of guitars,  owned by Les Pauls wife, they have many documents, pictures, etc.   everything is authentic.

The EXPERT says it's worth at least $150,000, and if you had rich people bidding on it, there is no telling what it may sell for.

The guy selling the guitar got it because it was his Aunts. This fool, sells it for $90,000. This happens time after time after time.

Sotheby's would LOVE to have sold this item. It could have brought in a half million or more. Yet this moron sells it for a pittance. If they took 15% for selling it, the guy would STILL have made $130,000.  It's like all these fools inherited these items and can't WAIT to get the poor, broke, hands on the cash so they can blow it.

I believe these poor unintelligent fools make up the majority of Pawn Shop Customers.

I believe Pawn Shops make their living by taking advantage of those who can least afford it. They prey on the uneducated, and unintelligent, to make their money.

The Pawn Shop customers that get the worst shafting, are those who you KNOW, just came in to the item, and want CASH NOW !!!   They accept half price or less. In some cases. thousands less.

It's not against the law, and they say a Fool and his money are soon parted. These poor fools have every right to sell their item at a fraction of the value.

I'm just ASKING, if you think Pawn Shops take advantage of those who do not have the intelligence to make a fair deal and acquire a fair price.
