Why Do People Support The 60s

WHY did people support World War II ?

They supported WWII because the Japanese attacked us at Pearl Harbor on 12/7/1941. Before that we were not actually in the war, but after that happened we entered WWII. Vietnam didn't attack us, it was us Americans sticking our noses in where we didn't belong, that is my thought on why we supported WWII but not Vietnam.

Why did support of the Vietnam War begin to dwindle by the late 1960s??

We talked about this in my U.S. history class. There were a few reasons for the loss of support.

The first was the rediculously high number of American casualties. At the end of the war there had been over 50,000 American soldiers killed in action and nearly another 35,000 who were either prisoners of war or missing in action.

The second reason was the changes made to the draft. People of high econmic status and people attending college as full time students were no longer exempt from the draft. Peoples feelings about the war began to change because the war now effected everyone, not just those who were of lower economic status and were considered by our government to be expendable. The draft was protested by many. People burned their draft cards. Some fled to Canada to avoid legal persecution for draft dodging(a.k.a. failure to report for duty which had a minimum sentace of 25 years as I recall) It also didn't help the situation that so many of the wounded soldiers who returned from Vietnam prostested right along those who were already against the war. People saw how horribly they had been maimed in battle and realized the sheer madness and pointlessness of it all.

The third and final reason for a loss of support was the over all cost of the war and toll it took on the American economy. The war started in 1959 and dragged on for over a decade until government officials determined that the war was virtually un-winable. With no resolution to the conflict in sight theU.S shamefully admited defeat and withdrew from Vietnam in 1975. However, by that point the financial impact it had on America had done too much damage and America entered a economic recession.

Those are the main reasons that is was not a wildy popular war among the American population.

Why did the CIA support a coup in Brazil in the 60s that overthrew a democratic regime?

You have to think of a serial killer or door-to-door insurance salesman who became world famous but this was when he was learning his trade, mostly how easy it was.Vernon Walters and Frank Carlucci had known members of the Brazilian military during WWll and had developed a relation of trust. At exactly the same time the US faced a large communist movement in Indonesia, Chile, Italy, Brazil and Chile and were experimenting with various methods of keeping them out of power. The communists were kept out of office in Chile and Italy but were a problem in Indonesia and Brazil. The formula worked out by Walters in Brazil in 1964 was later used in Indonesia in 1965 and Chile in 1973.At this time CIA operations in Europe and Latin America worked closely with the Vatican, their principal instrument being the Christian Democratic parties. It is possible that in 1964 the Vatican cared more about Brazil than the US.The Boys From Brazil were never Nazis, they were Fascists-and the Fascists were the Vatican, the military and landed oligarchy. After WWll add CIA.

Why does Jeremy Corbyn have such little support?

Now the media is telling you he doesn’t have much support, when in fact he has more support than any other politician i have seen in my lifetime. The tory owned media hate him, the tory party hate him, the average man in the street loves him. since his election as Labour leader their membership has grown so much it’s now the biggest party in Europe…does that sound like someone with no support? It’s all lies.

Why did white people support the civil rights movements?

It's a bit more complicated than that.

It was primarily because most people respected many black americans.

Think of the children who loved the movie "Song of the South" by Disney and think of all the great musicians in the 20s, 30s and 40s. They were loved by many.
Let's not forget, many important social changes and liberal ideas.
Nobody wanted to think like their grandparents.
The war was over and people wanted change
