Why Do People Trust Big Government

Why do Liberals trust the government so much?

You are deeply misinformed. I am a liberal, because I believe people should be paid honestly for their labor, I believe a society is RESPONSIBLE for protecting it's most vulnerable members (like an extended family, back when family mattered), I am against war profiteering, and I believe one corporation does not have the right to destroy EVERYONE's air, land, and water just because they hold a deed or patent.

BUT HOW THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN I TRUST "GOVERNMENT"? The US govt was never supposed to be full of career politicians, but average people chosen to SERVE for a short while, acting in the best interests of the NATION, not some company that contributed to the campaign.

WHY DO YOU TRUST YOUR "PARTY" so much when it obviously only cares about Big Business, and would sell the air you breath to make a buck? When it stands for outsourcing middle class jobs and breaking labor unions so that skilled tradesmen can be paid $10 an hour that they can't support a family on? When they lie to get us into foreign wars, and only ONE man out of all of them (Ron Paul) speaks against this? And even HE wants to make laws against women's rights?

I find it offensive that you refer to Obama as anyone's "Messiah". Another party line bitten off that junkie Rush Limbaugh. You didn't think of it yourself. You ought to think for yourself.

Is it okay to want a bigger government if you do not trust the government?

It is "okay", just irrational. It continually boggles me how the opinion segments who advocate giving more power to the government keep turning around and complaining that everyone IN the government is both evil and stupid. As though "government" was an astral entity apart from people, and laws and regulations enforce themselves completely apart from human motives and failings.

Why do americans tend to trust their local governments more than the federal government?

Local governments have direct and personal contact with people. Thus, Americans trust the local governments than the federal government which is busy with other matters such as intervention in foreign affairs.

Are big corporations less or more trustworthy than 'big government'?

Big corporations can NEVER be trusted. Their *only* motivation is profit. Governments that are kept in reign can be trusted to some extent, but that's a pretty rare feat. But it is possible in some places. Would I rather live in corporate oligarchy USA or the social democracy of Sweden? I will go with the latter.

What is it called when one doesn't trust the government at all?

Well, it's certainly not normal. Normal people give all their responsibilities to the government and they don't want them back for any reason. Normal people will tolerate a lack of central government for about 250 years (Hebrew Judges, Germanius, Dutch Empire, American colonies, and others), and then they throw away their freedoms and demand a government to lead them to glory. Over some period of time the government has to reorganize itself a few times, but it always eventually collapses. Then the people start another one, making all the same mistakes all over again.

Who do you think is more trustworthy- buisness or government leader?

They come from the same sets of people.

But the difference is that a business is very limited in what it can do to you - you have a lot of protections and ability to act against them.

With today's government, on the other hand, there is little that is limited to them what they can do against you, and there is little to no protection or ability to seek redress of wrongs.

Also, to add a point, most of the things a company can do to you with impunity is those things which have been REGULATED by government; their ability to screw you has government approval.

How does anyone trust big government given their 20th century record of democide and genocide?

Well, all governments in the world, regardless of politics, are “Big governments” and are yet much smaller than the huge empires of the entire human past. There is no other kind of government, really, be it a democracy or a dictatorship. We have had strong governments overseeing societies since the very dawn of civilization, and even back to agricultural communities. So, obviously, thruout human history, most people HAVE supported big government, including those who say they don’t. There has never been a libertarian country, after all.As for Democide and Genocide, the really bad news is that, the reason the 20th century had the most atrocities was technology………….mass slaughter of the innocent goes back many thousands of years. So there is nothing unique about the 20th century and all governments are big government operations. And why is this? Because this, sadly, is the nature of the human race. No political ideology is going to change this. Trust has nothing to do with it.
