Why Do Polos Cost The Same As Normal Mints When There Is Less Of Them

Why does the polo mint have a hole in the center? Is there a logical reason behind this?

[Edit: Previous answers already established that the design originated first with  Lifesavers, not Polo. But the unanswered part of the question remains, whether there was an "scientific logical" reason behind the design. It is to this part of the question that I address my response.]There are two differing tales that I can find, other than the breathing urban legend. One is that the Lifesavers shape and name were both designed together, as a marketing thing: that the mints were designed to freshen breath, replacing the cloves given away in bars, and that this was a "life saver". Since life saver rings were just becoming popular, the mints were made in that shape to reinforce this message. This idea is supported somewhat by the fact that the Wikipedia page on Lifesavers says that they only gained the technology to create the holes in 1925, and previously had no hole, and by the rather vague wording of Wrigley's page on it:http://www.wrigley.com/global/br..."To differentiate his mints from other square, pillow-shaped products, Clarence punched a hole in  the middle of his mints. Since the mints looked like mini life  preservers, he called them Life Savers. "The other is that the mints were made with a pill press, which was designed for compacting rather smaller, more swallowable tablets. I'd imagine that, using a regular pill press, the mints would be too large to compress, the middles didn't turn out right, so it worked much better if the pill press compressed them with a hole in the center: you could get more PSI pressure on the mint with a smaller surface area, and the mint was narrow enough to compact evenly throughout, dry without cracking, etc.As an engineer, I really like this reasoning, but there's no good citations for it that I can find.http://www.oldtimecandy.com/walk..."The pill manufacturer, whose machine was malfunctioning, found that the  pressing process worked much better when the had mints were stamped out  with a hole in the middle. He called the new candy "Cranes Life Savers"  because they looked like miniature life preservers."However, it looks like this "fact" was taken from unsourced, and since-removed information on the Lifesavers Wikipedia page.

What would be the financial, social, and economical impacts if Polo didn't have that hole in the middle?

For a short answer you may read the last paragraph, for an explanation, you may read the whole thing or just the highlighted points.POLO: the mint with a hole. If they were to be without a hole, they would lose their tagline, but you asked from a financial aspect, so I shall try and answer that. (Warning I'm a kid writing this answer, and these are just my views)If they didn't have a hole, the packaging costs would go down, as for the same quantity they would require less packaging material. But at the same time if they were to make the switch now, that would mean ALL their manufacturing units would need a change in there mould, which will cost a bit. The cost to change the units is a one time payment, but the low packaging cost is permanent, so considering only these 2 they will finacially gain. But regarding sales, I believe that will drop down drastically for a few reasons. 1. What is different from polo and all the other mints in the market? It has a hole, its different. People like different(curiosity kills the cat? in this case it dosnt kill you but it makes you try something different). Remove the hole, it becomes no different from all other mint available in the market. 2. If they remove the hole, the same 2 buck pack will look smaller. Think about lays, people say it's 70% air, but if they packaged their product at only 1/3 the size(only the chips), don't you think it would drop their sales? I think the same will happen with polo. 3. The established brand losses It value, they have to start all over again. Imagine a women's cosmetic company starts selling men's boxers? Not this extreme, but, a bit of reestablisment of brand name would be required. To sum up I believe, their costs may go down a bit, increasing profits per unit a bit; but their sales will go down drastically, reducing their annual profits.EDIT If the question was what if polo originally didn't have a hole, and not what if, it changes now, as Aadi pointed out in his comment, then :-1. There would be no pre established brand value to lose2. And no "change" in manufacturing units would be required. The other aspects would remain the same according to me

What happens if I eat too many Polo Mints in a day?

SUGAR BURST..when you eat a ton of sugar, almost every part of your body feels the strain and that's bad for your health in both the short term and especially the long term.ON regular consumption the insulin level spikes to regulate the blood sugar(naturally) making you feel sluggish and drained instead of the short periodic freshness that is felt after eating one or two in a day.So..simply AVOID ..too much of anything.Note: The mint flavor is just the essence poured in the polo mint.. so it truly doesn't benefit the body in any way.

I eat a lot of mints. Is that bad?

I'm going to agree that nothing is too bad in moderation, but respectfully disagree with Kuntal on sugar-free mints.  Studies on all the fake sugars have found bad effects long-term and in high doses.  I know there are criticisms of all those studies, but most nutritionists would agree that small bits of real sugar are probably better for you than larger amounts of fake sugar, so you're probably better off finding a brand of really good tasting mints with real sugar and real mint and eating fewer of them.  But if the taste is good, more might satisfy you better than fewer of a not as good brand.

Which is better, Xtra premium petrol or normal petrol?

Octane number of extra premium is 91-93 and that of normal petrol is 85-87.Higher the octane number, higher is the efficiency of engine. But there is not much difference between the octane number of two, so mileage will increase by only 3-4 kmpl.In short, extra premium petrol should be used after the vehicle has run few thousand kilometers as it contain some cleaning additives. So if you got a vehicle with engine compression ratio 10 or more… it will work fine with normal petrol. But with extra premium, very high compression ratio vehicles will clock their best BHP.

How much do car paint jobs cost?

I've done one complete re-paint myself, and paid professionals to do another five. The cost is all over the board. The last time I did this was in 2002. I had a minty-mint, pristene 36,000 original miles '63 VW Beetle of which I was the third owner. I acquired it in a multi-car deal from a collector friend in Dallas, and he'd only had it very briefly himself. Alas, on a trip to the beach, the hood latch failed and the hood flew up, smashing the windshield, the hood, and severely creasing the cowling between the windshield and the hood opening. This couldn't be fixed without a complete repaint, so I decided to have a nearly concours quality job done; since I was going to lose the patina and the "all original" moniker, I wanted the end result to be as near to that as possible. The shop I used had previously done a multi-year 99-point concours restoration on a '63 Porsche convertible. They knew their stuff, and only do premium work. No corners cut, no sub-par materials. In the final breakdown, just the paint materials cost nearly $2000. The bodywork, repairing the cowling - which was flawless - was only $600.There was another $5000 in the rest of the job. That included partial disassembly of the car - loosen fenders, remove bumpers and exterior trim, remove windshield and rear window. Then the cycle started on getting the car "ready for color" - sand, shoot primer coat, shoot guide coat, block sand to find low spots, fill, repeat - until the car was 100% smooth and flat. Then final cleaning, anti-static to keep it from attracting dust, and shoot color. Which then had to be wet-sanded, and re-shot a second time, and wet-sanded again before final buffing.A this was a restoration-quality job, we shot with a single-stage enamel from Sikkens that was a perfect match for the original paint. There was also another $1000 or so for misc parts - replacing chrome that wasn't "good enough", new window and door seals, repair to the canvas sunroof, etc.It really looked like a brand new '63 Beetle. No clue what the "paint the car" part of the restoration on the '63 Porsche cost me, but I do recall that the paint materials alone were over $3k. It was a bare-metal restoration, fully disassembled, all prior paint removed by dipping, rust removed by reverse electrolysis, new metal welded in, etc. In the disassembly, we found one 2" by 3" patch of original paint under the dash, and used it to color-match against in a custom color run, which may have added to the cost.

How does corn caps (a bandage to remove corn from skin) work?

Corns! They sound cool but never do they appear cool once they sit under our foot!I had corns right under my left toe and god they suck! The pain is unbearable. They appear like extra skin but underneath the skin, there will be much more.I thought peeling off the extra skin would remove corns and that I will get freedom.. I took a file and did the job and after that, my toe looked like this:I was all happy that I am successfully done with corns.. only to realise that they are not that easy to go! Look at the red colour things at the top of the above picture.. corns are deeply rooted. Some of my family members advised me that I go to a doctor and get these corns peeled off with a scalpel. But then, to my rescue, one of my aunt’s informed me about corn caps. Amrutanjan sells it at a price of 30 rupees for 4 caps. These caps look like band aid but the centre of the caps look like “polo” mints and at the centre, there is some medicine. You can wrap this cap around the corn and let it be like that for one week. After a week, remove the cap and you can see that the area becomes pale and easy to remove.. sometimes, the affected area comes off with the cap when you remove it. If it doesn’t come off.. you can peel it off using a scalpel. It comes off easily.PS: I tried this way, but I wont recommend you to use scalpel.
