Why Do So Many Bands Falter After Their First One Or Two Albums

"Metalheads" what are your top 10 favorite "Scorned" Metal Albums?

@Master of Puppets
that was actually number 10 or 11, I just got tired of typing, lol. I agree. I am not a fan of the band overall, but I love that album. Everything from 80s Metal to Metalcore, to maybe some post Hardcore, and "Waking the Demon" was pretty close to some 80s Thrash tunes. Not quite, but it was a dang good ripping tune. Tuck is actually a decent vocalist, IMO.

Why do some music bands fail and others succeed?

a lot of it has to do with the way the record label promotes a band...if a label spends millions to put out an album, then they are going to advertise the heck out of it to get their money back plus a profit...if they spend very little then it isn't as important to make the money back and is kind of like a tax write off-which every business needs...also, a lot of musicians who put out music and fail usually only have one good song in them if they are lucky abd after they release it on their debut then they can only put out garbage afterwards unless they can get the label to set them up with songs from another writer/composer...the musicians who survive a long time in the industry are usually talented and more then a onehit wionder...they tend to promote themselves with really long tours and lots of press...hope this helps...cheers

Who are your favorite "greatest hits" bands?

Well I don't like Record Company Greatest Hits because the are usually full of nothing but massive overplay and loads of fail. I do, however have a lot of Homemade Greatest Hits CD's from Bands I like just well enough to have a CD of songs from like Fleetwood Mac, Kansas, and Heart for example.

How did Genesis change as a band after Peter Gabriel left?

For the first two albums after his departure, not so much as they still had Steve Hackett giving the band the unique folk sound they were renowned for. It was just that Phil had to fill in the gap that was left in Peter's wake so his singing skills were put to the test. This may have helped him to improve his vocal and songwriting skills overall. A problem they had was that Phil was giving Steve too little say in the bands creative direction which played a key role in his departure after Wind & Wuthering. So when they did Then There Were Three, this was the last time they were able to pursue their original direction as they were on shaky ground musically speaking. Although they were able to pull of this one it was clear that they had to change their direction for good. If anything, Follow You Follow Me and Many Too Many pointed out to the sound that would define their career as a pop driven band. Phil had a background in playing Motown music and had a preference for jazz so when they recorded Duke, they would have more jazz and funk elements added in with Weather Report having evidently influenced their sound. Abacab would have more soft rock, jazz and funk added which would have this new musical direction solidified. They still stayed in touch with their prog background through the instrumentals and improvisation they would still include on their later albums.To sum it all off, the band had themselves reinvented as a pop outfit in the long run which wasn't a bad thing considering how prog rock had ended up imploding during the mid 70's. This change in direction proved to be a blessing in disguise for them as it allowed them to maintain relevance.
