Why Do Some Cakes Like Red Velvet Cake Taste Weird To Me But Not To Other People

Why do some cakes, like red velvet cake, taste weird to me but not to other people?

People around me always seem to like all sorts of cakes, but when I taste them they taste a bit like how fish food flakes smell. It's not all cakes just some.

Why are people obsessed with red velvet cake?

okay it may not be an ordinary cocoa cake- the apple cider vinegar reaction to make it fluffy, the color (whether beet juice or food dye) is somewhat appealing, it's moist, and when you slap some simple cream cheese buttercream on it, it can be OK, however, cake worth paying for shouldn't even consider having cocoa powder alone being put into it. that's the old-fashioned, money-saving way. it's much less flavorful. simply put- it just doesn't taste good. are american taste buds just elementary?

Why are people so obsessed with red velvet cake when it's just a regular cake with red food coloring?

You ever hear that saying "You eat with your eyes first"?Visual stimuli has some influence on the taste of your food. Color can, to a degree, change the subjective experience of taste. Red, in the context, is a color of indulgence and luxury and the color, combined with the name red velvet sets up a subjective expectation. Presentation isn't everything, but it's an important thing. Conversely, I've attended soirees where the object was to take perfectly edible, palatable, delectable food ingredients and fashion them into the most insanely unattractive dishes, and it's take a force-of-nature to get me to put them in my mouth. And when I do, they just don't taste as good as I think they should.Sensation is a complicated thing. All senses play a part.

What does red velvet cake taste like?

Red velvet cake, when made correctly has an extremely complex flavor. That is what makes it so good. It is a moist vanilla cake with a hint of chocolate in it. Also, due to the addition of Buttermilk and acid it is a little tart and a little salty too. A cream cheese frosting Is classic to a red velvet cake and provides it another dimension of flavor - creaminess. All these flavors together make a red velvet cake the perfect heavenly dessert. The red food coloring is not present to provide any flavor but only added because of its name. You can also make blue velvet, pink velvet or any colour you want with the same basic recipe. The reason, the classic version is called red velvet is because good quality unprocessed Cocoa when comes in contact with the vinegar makes the batter red. Now a days, it's hard to get that good Cocoa, hence introducing the food colouring.

Allergic to Red Velvet Cake?

I would say maybe the cake you ate was near nuts, baked in the same oven as nuts, in the same pan, etc, same spatula. That maybe is why your reaction was not as severe. Stay away from bakeries, I stay away from seafood restaurants, I'm allergic to Fish.

Why do people choose such weird wedding cake flavors?

OK, I've had blueberry lemon and banana coffee flavored cake at two recent weddings. I had to ask what (the heck) the flavors were cause they certainly weren't familiar.

Why do people do this? No one at our table liked either. Both expensive (and beautiful) cakes went mostly uneaten into the trash!

Also, both had unusual flavors for every layer that we had the option to choose from. No white, yellow, or chocolate cake, no marble cake, not even a layer with just one flavor (I could have handled just blueberry or just lemon or... whatever!)

I don't understand!? One thing is both brides kinda went over the top with their weddings - in a beautiful way, but way expensive - could this just be a "top this" sort of move?

I really don't get it!

Is there a type of cake that you cannot stand? Why?

Red. Freaking. Velvet. It became a super trendy as a flavor a couple years ago and it’s still lingering. But I cannot stand it. It’s just really bad chocolate cake that’s been colored red. It’s a really fluffy cake, but is usually accompanied by heavy cream cheese frosting (honestly, I’m pretty sure everyone just likes the frosting, not the cake) and so it’s hard to make it look nice, especially if someone requests it as a three tier wedding cake on the hottest day of the summer with no air conditioning. And not only is it just the worst cake to work with, it’s become a part of other desserts, too! Like brownies! Stop! Just stop. You don’t need that much red food coloring in your life. If it wasn’t red, it would be a really light, unappetizing, brown. You can’t fool me.I don’t have it on my flavor list of offerings for custom cakes, but I get asked about it every other cake that I do. What maniac started this and why do you want me to cry so much?

Does red-velvet cake make your stool become red?

Hi there!Firstly, take a deep breath and try not to worry.*Quick disclaimer: I’m the daughter of an M.D. Gastroenterologist, have trained with his practice and am getting my Master’s in Nursing (GI).Here’s what I’d ask/say you if you were my patient:What did you eat in the last 24–48 hrs? If your red-velvet cake was made from beet-dye or other food additives, a ruddy colored stool is possible. Some medications can change the color of your stool as well. Was your stool runny and bright red? Painful? Was it black and tarry? Bright red frank blood = lower GI bleed, black and tarry stools = either your drinking peptol bismol, or could have an ulcer depending on your symptoms. If you have no other major symptoms (like GI pain, fever, extreme fatigue, dizzy when standing, etc.), I’d say you’re fine, drink plenty of fluids and you’ll notice a return to normal stool color as soon as you stop eating red-velvet cake.Hope all is well!

Is red velvet cake chocolate?

Red velvet cake is a cake with a dark red, bright red or red-brown color. It is traditionally prepared as a layer cake topped with cream cheese or cooked roux icing. The deep red color used to made using beet juice, today many people, including myself use a red gel food coloring. Although the cake is made using cocoa, it isn't chocolate flavored. Distilled white vinegar and baking powder are also used, sounds strange but the taste is unique, I don't think that there is anything that I could properly compare it to. The traditional icing is cream cheese frosting, but some places have been using butter cream. It was very popular in the south. Some people put nuts on the sides of the cake and some plain, it's really just a matter of taste.
