Why Do Some People Consider Their Pets As Proptery Instead Of A Living Being

Why are pets considered "property"?

Animals that are pets and live in our homes are not able to care for themselves, and for the most part, never have an understanding of everyday life beyond a 5 year old child. If left to become feral, some would survive, but because they have been domesticated through the centuries, they would not thrive, but would exist on the scraps of humans, making them still be dependent on us.Because most do not contribute to the income of the house (I am not talking about food animals - that is a different topic altogether). They are completely dependent upon us for all aspects of their lives.A lot of the points I make would also describe our children up until the age that they are able to either contribute to the home or move out and are no longer our responsibility. They are not property (though may be treated as such when they are younger), but they are rather our offspring, a contribution to preserving our line. That being said, they are property to be kept and maintained in a healthy and productive fashion.

Why do people adopt pets instead of allowing the animal to live freely?

Honestly ??? What makes you think that adopted or bought pets aren’t living freely? The fact that someone is finding homes for pets or being responsible and has a fenced yard doesn’t mean the pet isn’t living freely. It simply means that someone is caring for it and not letting it breed willy nilly or starve to death “living free”.My dogs are quite happy, free, and move freely wherever it likes with the limitations of MY property. I have a fenced yard for my pets. That’s one of the most important parts of being a RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER.I won’t let my dogs encroach or trespass on any other neighbors property nor do I appreciate stray or neighbors’ dogs coming onto my property. It’s RUDE and I’m faced with cleaning up their dogs’ messes and possibly the danger of their dog attacking or biting one of my critters. I had the neighbors’ “pack” of Chihuahuas try to attack me and chase me back into my home a few years ago… It was NOT appreciated and I dealt with the matter. Never to happen again.Besides, dogs running freely become FERAL quite quickly. Three dogs can “pack” up and attack other dogs, livestock, AND CHILDREN. Is that scenario more to your liking? Would you be willing to put your children at risk because you feel it’s important that “every dog run free”? Certainly not mine.Perhaps, rethinking this “PETA way of thinking” would be best for all.

Why are animals/pets considered property, isant that unfair?

I agree. I believe that animals are equal to people and they should be treated as such. I'm not a vegitarian or anything, but I still think other creatures deserve their rights. After all, humans are animals too. In fact, I don't consider the animals in my family as pets, I think of them as my brothers/sisters. It is unfair to animals and pets, but humans tend to think they're the dominant species.

Why do people let their dogs destroy their house?

Various reasons which could be health problems in some case and a lack respect for other people’s property and a disinterest and indifference to keeping on top of housework which is a necessary evil to live in a clean and sanitary home in others.

For example someone living alone with a debilitating medical problem may find everyday tasks challenging and not quality for assistance to finance the cost of home help, but can get out the house with a mobility scooter. I know a few people who exercise their dogs twice daily who are in that position, the dogs are their main or only companion and feel part of society talking to other dog walkers.

Then there are people who either trash a property because it does not belong to them and do not care about the deposit paid against damage, and those who are happy to live in filth and clutter and shovel it around making space when needed and do not have a normal acceptable standard of behavior in wanting a clean and sanitary in some cases home and abiding by the lease.

I would guess the state of disrepair was reflected in the sale price and you would not have invested in there was not a reasonable profit to be made on it.

How can people leave their pets behind?

Like if they have a bunny or a dog... and they starting posting ads "moving, can't take pets." How can you just leave a pet like that? Wouldn't you try to find a living situation where you can keep your pet? If people were like "free child, i'm moving, can't bring them" it would be an outrage, right? Why don't people consider their pets a part of their family? I'd rather be dead before I let harm come to my bunny.

Is a dog considered a thing?

It depends what perspective you are answering the question from! One perspective that I think is interesting, and many people are unaware of, is the legal one.In the United States dogs are legally considered property. So in that way they are very “thing” like.If someone driving negligently runs over and kills your dog, for example, a court can order them to pay you restitution in the form of the monetary value of your dog. In the past you wouldn’t typically be able to receive any restitution for pain and suffering, since someone mowing down your dog is legally akin to someone hitting your mailbox. That seems to be changing a bit and there have been cases where dog owners have been awarded pain and suffering. It is also legal (although I am not sure if this varies state to state) to take your dog to the vet and have it put to sleep for any reason or no reason at all. Since the dog is your property you are free to destroy it if you wish.
