Why Do Some People Have Thousands Of Friends On Facebook Most Of Whom They Don

Why and how do some people have so many Facebook friends? Are they real friends?

Opinion: Faceboom made a poor choice of words, when they decided to call FB contacts "friends" (less than 5% of my Facebook contacts are my friends, and even fewer are what I call true friends). FB is simply one of several "contact networks" (I maintain other networks, like Google+ (users) and LinkedIn (contacts), in both cases few of my contacts there are my friends), with a small part of it being my "friends" network. So, it's all semantics: if you choose to call your FB friends "contacts" instead, would you question whether these contacts were "real"?

How people have 700+ friends on Facebook?

Typically friends are made through gaming applications. They friend each other - in order to share game credits, etc. Friends are also made from joining groups with common interests.I have something like 450 friends. I know almost all of them - personally. I grew up in a small town with a graduating class of 360 people. I’m friends with a large number of these people. I went to college and I’m friends with just a few of these people. I joined the Air Force and moved from the East Coast, to Turkey, Spain, England, the West Coast and back to the Midwest. You can bet I made a lot of friends and have found them on Facebook. After the Air Force, I still managed to change jobs quite a bit - in IT - it used to be a thing - to get promotions. So I have a quite a few friends from past jobs. This has been over a period of 57 years give or take 20 years. (I’m 57 years old - so I have the added benefit of time to make more friends). But even with all the moving and job changing - I still have only 450 friends - I’m pretty gregarious and outgoing. Anything more than that - they either went to a very big high school and college and knew all of them - or they are more open and friendly than I am. I’m not sure that is possible. :-) Just kidding. But yes, the large number of friends on Facebook is usually from gaming - or trying to gain celebrity hood by offering incentives to become friends.I don’t usually remain friends with people who request my friend status from a group and then never talk to me. I think Facebook should be just for friends. :-) Celebrities and news personalities notwithstanding - and gamers, of course. :-)

Poll: Do you accept random Facebook friend requests?

I honestly am getting tired of these low losers who try to add me, and sending me flirty messages.
I DONT KNOW YOU!
But no, i do not accept random fb requests.

Upon sending a friend request to someone on Facebook, I got 'This person has reached the friend request limit and can't accept any more'. What is the maximum limit and why?

5,000 friends.Well, some people just can't understand that you can't just add everyone as friends on FB, it's not the same as Twitter following. If one thinks he/she is a celebrity and wants to add thousands of people to have hundreds of likes and feel popular... then, a page is more suitable, because it has no limit.

Would the fact that a defendant in a trial was a Facebook friend with the judge, be grounds for the judge to recuse themself from the trial?

Not unless you can show they have a close personal relationship. Being Facebook ‘friends’ means nothing. You have to be ‘friends’ If you want to follow someone. That doesn’t in anyway imply a close or interactive relationship. It’s not an actual friendship. People have hundreds and even thousands of ‘friends’ on Facebook, most of whom they don’t know at all. Im ‘friends’ with at least two dozen people I’ve never met and don’t even see their posts regularly because of the Facebook algorithm. I’m friends with another two dozen or so whom I know but haven’t interacted with personally in twenty or thirty years. Facebook ‘friends’ is nothing. People get a request and accept without even looking at the name more than once. If judges had to recuse themselves every time some defendant happened to be in a social media list we wouldn’t have a court system any more. All defendants/criminals would have to do is send a friend request to every judge in the area, most of whom would accept. Then there would be no one to try them. We’d all be in a pickle.

What does having a lot of Facebook friends reveal about a person's personality?

It reveals that they have a lot of friends in the physical world.  Research is showing, in what some consider a letdown, that much of what happens in the physical environment is mirrored in the online environment.  Most people assume that out personalities are very malleable, and that in the digital environment (of which Facebook is one place in this environment) we are free to change ourselves however we want. This simply doesn't happen as often as we think.  In fact, people who are not in dense social networks in the physical environment (i.e. have a lot of friends) don't have dense social networks in the online environment.

Why do I have no friends?

I never say a bad word about anybody, I'm 19 years old and don't have a friend to ring me up and ask what am I up too this weekend, so I just work consistently.

I have good values and morals, I'm realistic and honest. I believe that having ambitions and integrity is the strongest quality a person can have. I care about the unfortunate, poverty, world hunger, homeless, animal cruelty, the global issues, I'm too sensitive and insecure to atleast try get a friend because they will think I'm either 'gay' or a 'freak'.

My parents died when I was little, and I have no brothers or sisters. I grew up in orphanages and went from family to family.

I can't understand why it is simply too hard to obtain a social status in modern society. How hard is it to get a friend who understands you?

True or false: People use the word "friend" to loosely whereas most of them....?

Friends hurt each other.. "Genuine" friends hurt each other even more.... Why..? because "genuine" friends don't tolerate, they guide, they protect and sometimes, if protecting each other would mean a hard punch on the face to say "wake up", they would do it... "Friends"on the other hand always wear a smile during good times but leave you frowning "alone" during the bad times...
