Why does my sister have a different last name?

I have 3 sibs. Two of them have the same last name as me which is Adams. My oldest sister is the one with the different last name, Wilson. Everytime i ask my sister why she has a different one she always say "ask mom and dad" when I ask my parents they always say that they "found her" but they say it in a joking way. She is 24 and me and my other two sibs are 11,14,and 16. My dad's last name is also Adams...............is she my step sister?

Why do Catholic Sisters have male saint names? And how do they get chosen?

Conventual nuns and Cloistered nuns select their future anonymous identity
by using a canonized saint's name. Their choice of the name is one of several
submitted to the Mother Superior. At the time of Profession for the first two
years of postulancy "testing period" and as their first act of Obedience to the
future profession to their Order, the Superior will select and give one of the
saints lives which each postulant has selected as her personal devotion
to imitate. Or, as an extra act of testing, the Superior may select a name not
provided as a choice. The postulant does not always know if the name she
selected will be assigned, but will accept the name given to her nevertheless
out of Obedience.

The use of anonymity is an Act of immolation of self, in order to more
perfectly follow the path to unself, or Christ-like. This is a Rule of Profession
to every Order is followed freely and gives up identity in the world.

At the time of Final vows of their Profession to the Rule, their promise to
practice the norm (rules of virtue) for that particular Order is made, including
the identity they have been given for all time and eternity.

Only when visiting family may their baptismal name be used IN PRIVATE.

Why do Westerners address their elder siblings with first name instead of calling them big sister or big brother like we Indians do?

Ha, this is a recurring argument between my parents and my younger brother, who’s adamant that he should be able to refer to by my name. The simple answer is that ‘Western’ siblings, even those with large age gaps, typically view each other as equals within the family structure. That is, the hierarchy is parents > children rather than father > mother > older siblings > younger siblings (this reflects both the ageist and patriarchal nature of Indian social structures, since husbands are almost always older than their wives).Broadly speaking, Western cultures are more egalitarian while Indian culture is more hierarchical. This isn’t to say that there isn’t social stratification in the West, but it’s not as rigid, and age isn’t generally viewed as a meaningful marker. Indeed, most ‘Westerners’ would bristle at the idea that someone is owed deference simply be virtue of age, while reverence for elders is embedded within many Eastern cultures.Additionally, as some other answers have noted, English has comparatively fewer words to denote specific familial relationships, a potential reflection of the values dissonance between the East and West, i.e, individualism versus collectivism.

Why do nuns change their names?

Convents or “Orders”of Nuns or “Sisters” usually change the names of the members to depict the change that has happened in their lives. Since formerly they were living in a secular state, these celibate Christians (like the apostles who’s names were changed by Jesus) now wish to take on a new identity as Christ-followers. Many have compared it to taking a new name at marriage…Part of this name change, in Catholicism, almost invariably involves taking on the name of Mary, mother of the Lord, and the remarkable “woman” first mentioned by God in the Book of Exodus when he prophecied how salvation would finally come about:Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."Mary is seen as a “Mother figure” for many reasons, one being Christ’s dying words to St. John, “Behold your mother.”(John 19:27). Since nothing Jesus uttered from the Cross is seen as “merely taking care of business”(entire oratorios have been written on his “Seven Last Words”), the Church took Mary as it’s “Mother.” Not divine, but certainly the most faith-filled and caring person a woman could model her behavior on (after Christ’s, of course). So, if a woman named “Anne” enters a convent with a “particular devotion” to St.Francis of Assisi, once she makes her “profession” (of final vows), her name is likely to be “Sister Mary Francis.”If she gets past the postulancy, at least…At age 19, I actually did enter religious life. Unfortunately (but for the son I have and the time spent with my late husband), that place was about to be the subject of investigation on the priest scandal (which I knew nothing about). I left not knowing either temporary or permanent vows, but the sisters were lovely people, and I still think of them often with fondness…

Do you like these names for a girl?

Some but there kinda weird...
