Why Do The Dallas Cowboys Su*c So Hard

What is the best city to live in Texas? Dallas, Austin, or Houston? Why?

My observations:Dallas / Fort Worth - considered the Chicago of the South. Lots of upscale restaurants & retail, hundreds of employment opportunities in established Fortune 500 Companies in professional services, finance, and established technology companies. Large white collar population. Very fast paced compared to the rest of Texas.Houston: Very diverse city; oil, aerospace, and medicine are major employers. The city has a very blue collar vibe to me. Incredibly laid back, non-pretentious city. Very, very humid weather.Austin - bohemian (although not what it used to be); very youthful, energetic place. Lots of tech startups here; other major employers include government and government related services. There’s a large freelance culture here, as people seem to have their own business. Getting more expensive; very limited freeway infrastructure, so traffic bottlenecks are common. Awesome nightlife.San Antonio: Large Mexican population, and the city embraces it. Much more laid back out of the four major Central Texas cities. Large military population. Tex-Mex food is common here, but other food options are limited. Employment options are limited here, but the cost of living here and traffic is very low. Very relaxing, yet slow-paced, large city.El Paso: Another relaxing, slow paced, large city. The city is less Texan and more Mexican / New Mexican. Very isolated from the rest of the state of Texas; majority of the food is Mexican. Incredible hiking and mountain biking trails. Dry heat abounds.Lubbock/Midland/Abeline/Odessa (Texas Panhandle): This is where a lot of your typical notions of stereotypical Texan culture come from. Lots of agriculture. Lots of oil. Cow fields abound. Cowboys everywhere. You get a pretty good glimpse of small town America in the Panhandle.McAllen/Edinburg: This area is largely Hispanic culture. Its an agricultural area trying to become a center of commerce and urban development. The Rio Grande River creates the border between this city and Mexico. The region has great desire to catch up to the cities up north in terms of outdoor activities. Entertainment is pretty limited.

Why do the Dallas Cowboys have so many fans that live outside of Texas?

The Dallas Cowboys had the good fortune to be a consistently good team at just the right time; around the start of the Superbowl era. In fact, since the AFL / NFL merger in 1970, the Cowboys have won over 58% of their games, second only to the Pittsburgh Steelers who have won 61%. In this span, the Cowboys have won 19 division titles, 8 conference titles and 5 Superbowls.Success like this attracts fans. But, since the Cowboys are actually second to the Steelers, why do the Cowboys have more out of state fans? That is mostly due to geography. New Mexico, Arkansas and Oklahoma, all states bordering Texas, don’t have an NFL franchise. Other southern states like Mississippi and Alabama also lack NFL teams. So, many residents of these states root for the Cowboys. As a Cowboys fan from a family of Cowboys fans, I would like to think that it is something inherent with the team itself that draws so many fans from around the country. But, for the most part, it was success at the right time and geography.

How reputed is the MS Analytics program in Oklahoma State University? Also what is the placement scenario there?

My brother went to OSU, majored in math and statistics and did some programming while in school there. He ended up at TI in Dallas. I went to OSU for awhile, studied the humanities and ended up in the Navy. I had friends who got their BSMEs there who ended up at places like Phillips Petroleum and Union Carbide. The education is there for the taking if you want it. It's a standard state school in the farm belt that has a heritage as an A&M (agriculture and mechanical) college. Apart from engineering, it's well known in veterinary science. The football program is strong. If you're looking for reputation or a pedigree, you might look in a wealthier state.

Should Johnny Manziel be given a second chance in the NFL?

I believe pretty much everyone deserves a second chance unless they’re child molesters. But I wouldn’t touch Johnny Manziel with a 100 yard pole. It’s not even his off-the-field issues that are the biggest turn off for me, personally. Sure, he’s an insufferable, immature, jerk who is possibly suicidal and unsafe to be near. Even then, though, I suppose (despite the unlikelihood) that he could turn his life around and become a model citizen. If I were a GM, I wouldn’t take a chance on Manziel because he’s not a good enough player for the chance to be warranted. He’s small, with a mediocre arm, and uses his legs way too much for a QB. Not only would he get battered, but even if he had a decent offensive line, he’d probably throw a bunch of wounded ducks into triple coverage or run straight into Mr. Mike Linebacker.Should he be given a second chance? From a personal standpoint, maybe I’d give him the benefit of the doubt. But those issues coupled with the fact that he’s not even second string quality makes me say he shouldn’t get a second chance from a meritocratic point of view.
