Why Do Universities Require More Books

Is the book University Physics by Young, Freedman et al required for the preparation of the IIT-JEE?

Not at all! Don't waste your time. You can go a bit deeper into concept from the JEE syllabus but do not waste time doing high school stuff. I'm hoping you're doing I.E. Irodov (for physics, that is) if you're hoping for a good rank in JEE Advanced, that's the epitome of physics for JEE. If you can do that confidently, no need to worry. Hope it helped!

Why are there not more fictional books in the Tezpur University Central Library?

The simple answer is because it is an academic institution and has a very small library in comparison to other institutes so it is just trying to gather more domain specific books now.But in a boarder sense, the answer is that TU is a science and technology oriented institute and so it has not put that much emphasis on say humanities. So maybe it has not that many books on fiction. But there are quite a few good ones, including some books by Indian authors that are now out of print. This doesn't seem to be strange if you consider other libraries of academic institute. For instance the institute I am currently in has absolutely no books on fiction (this may be because it is not a university like TU).

How many books/pages, on average, is an English major required to read per week?

I will be transferring to UC Davis in the fall as an English major. I did all my general ed classes in junior college, so the bulk of my education at Davis will be in English classes.

I was browsing through textbook lists and was shocked to find some classes with 10-12 novels required for reading. I understand that it will be much more difficult than junior college, but I have a question--are we really required to read this many books per class, per quarter? I don't know if I can do that ....

If you're an English major at a 4-year university, could you explain what these textbook lists really entail? Are they all required, or are some simply recommended? About how many papers per class do you typically write?

I'm not looking for an easy way out. I just want to prepare myself for what is to come.

Thanks in advance!

University/college yearbook? Should I buy it?

I think most high school students buy their yearbook, but how about in university? Do most graduating seniors buy year book at a university? I know that picture taking for high school students are mandatory but it's not for a university. So I am assuming there will be lots of missing pictures. Should I take a picture and buy the year book or not? How about you? Did you buy it or planning to buy it?

Where can I sell text books that the university book store won't buy back in Albuquerque New Mexico?

Amazon will usually let you sell used books, as well as eBay.

Shouldn't professors be required to pay universities revenues from their book sales, as they wouldn't have been able to write the book without the facilities provided by the university?

If professors require their students to read the book(s) the professor authored, I think they should either donate those royalties either to the university (I donated mine to a scholarship fund) or refund them to the students. To me this is just ethics: don’t make money from your own students by requiring them to buy your products. However, I do not think the universities should demand a cut of all royalties of books written by the faculty even if they are not textbooks and not purchased by students. In any case, it’s usually a pretty small sum we’re talking about: academic books do not often make a great deal of money.

Which are the books required for a CSE student in their 1st year at Chandigarh University?

Hi Nikita,As a freshman no such books are required. They'll teach you the relevant things in the class itself. Teachers will share ppt's with you, and I strongly recommend that you shouldn't rely on those. Study from the online resources. Youtube and geeksforgeeks has the best material. And then you'll be able to develop your concepts well. And pay more attention on the Programming subjects and practice them. If you start from first year you'll be very good at programming at the end of 3rd year when your placements are about to start. Practice competitive programming too.Hope you find it useful!
