Why Do We Do Things We Don

Why do we do things we know are wrong?

We do things we know are wrong because-1)  of our 'strong DESIRE/WANT to DO it.'  'Desire' is very powerful. It is a fuel for our ACTIONS. When we are so deeply submerged by our WANT/DESIRE we don't care and think less about the consequence and we even stop thinking and being aware of if what we are doing is right or wrong. My real life example- I lie to my parents for buying books other than educational book. That is- Novels, autobiographies, etc. I know lying is wrong but I lie because my 'I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK' is so strong that I can't see any other option than lying.2)We are afraid to face the consequences if we know its not something we want it to be like. Just like in point no 1, I gave you my real life example of lying. I 'EXPECT' my parents to understand to me that I love reading but they don't. Their thinking is different from mine, they think one should read only books related to one's education. Hence, I lie and I know its wrong.3) We are conditioned to take short-cut paths in our life and choose the easiest, simplest way to do anything. Cutting a tree is an easiest task but time taken by a tree to grow? It is hardest one, it takes many year.We know most of the things are wrong before we even do it and yet we do it because of our desires, wants, needs, and conditioning of our brain. I read one beautiful story on Quora- The lowly clerk was caught red handed for accepting bribe..Miles away, at home, his wife waited for her husband to bring the money for her daughter's cancer treatment. Some people may know the reason about why they are doing the wrong. Just like in this above story, consider it as an example. "Things are as they are. Looking out into it the universe at night, we make no comparisons between right and wrong stars, nor between well and badly arranged constellations. "-Alan Watts. Thanks for A2A Rahul Burman .

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

Life is short: This is known by humans and is in human mind and no where else.. what is short what is long is defined by the human mind and life would have never been long since human never is able to satisfy himself hence it seems short.. its all the perception, life is neither short nor long,

why do we do so many things we don’t like: its our mind and likes and dislikes are endless, our mind dislikes something mind gets bored off.. mind is always looking for excitement.. what language you write is just outer part, the inner truth is this that its all the nature of mind and not of the world.. one must be free from doing and relating oneself to the consequences.. one must realise that no pleasure, no permanent or lasting pleasure can be derived out of something like this/... too many expectations form a picture inside the mind in which we see ourselves enjoying but when actually the time comes our expectations are ruined and something else happens

"like so many things we don’t do": because of two reasons, one because the world, the society wants to be productive and you are made to involvein earning and not learning so that the capitalists can eat however this is the outer reason with less validity and more than this the inner reason is.. mind is always interested in new and exciting, since the things we are unable to do and we like.. mind gets more excited them and thinks there is some permanent peace in doing such things which we did not use to do regularly.. after we go and do those things which we liked.. we become tired of it and search new things or those doing it are in illusion of man made world, such as salary-hike, a position, power money and such things are insignificant in the path of knowledge

Garbino has given a good answer, we are stupid and we are trying to become sane through the mind that itself is stupid

Why is life all about doing things I don't want to do?

Dude, Life is all about experiencing and getting to know about the world. And here you are talking about the general things like studying. Yeah, you need to have a basic degree in your hand so that you are always on the safer side. After you are capable enough then start opting for the things you like and start working on your passion. You will be knowing about different streams when you start doing different things.Fruits? They are not only the one which are healthy.. eat Leafy vegetables. And coming to "talking to certain people"- When you talk to people around you, you get to know them, you understand them and some hate you and you hate someone, but at the end of the day isn't it helping you? When you enter into the world and start living a life you will know how to handle people and to be careful in getting into trap of the people.Everything that happens in your life will be helpful for you to lead a life which will be satisfying you.If you really hate it then quit but do not quit before trying any thing ;)thanks for A2A!

Why do we do things that we regret later?

Let's just say I knew something could go wrong with the guy I was trying so hard to get closer to. I wasn't oblivious to the circumstances and ended up getting hurt. I wasted 7 months of my life being after him. I can't undo my past and even knew it back then what I was getting myself into.

So the question is: why do we do things we regret later? Is there a greater reason/meaning all of it in the end? And mostly- why do the most practical and logic of beings end up making mistakes? =(

If you are angry, do you say things you don't mean?

Hmm. I have a bad temper & I say a lot of hurtful things when I'm angry but nothing like what your husband said. I might call names or take a dig at his character just because I know it's a weak spot for him (not proud of that btw) but what your husband said was very pointed. I can't imagine just saying something that random if there weren't any truth behind it. That doesn't sound like something that's just said in the heat of the moment.

But what do you think? I don't know your husband. Are those comments totally off the mark? Or are you kind of not really much fun to be around? I'm just saying.

Why do people continue to do things that they don't want to do?

Neither of my parents have a college education, which limits their employment options pretty significantly. They have spent their lives making tough decisions. They don’t have anything to fall back on.When my dad met my mom, his dream was to be a helicopter mechanic. More than likely, such a job would require a move to a big city.He gave it up so that his kids could be raised in the relative safety and community of a small town.He worked for years in the awful, often dangerous conditions of an oil rig, just so he could provide for his family. He didn’t want to. There were a hundred jobs he would rather do, but he didn’t have the education or wasn’t in the location to do them. The idea of “living the most of your life and just being happy” sound great on paper, but it’s not plausible for many people. My dad couldn’t just quit his job and be happy because he had a family to look out for.Often you’re doing something you dislike in order to support something you do like. You have priorities. Some people decide that working for a bothersome person in order to have more vacation days or better pay or various benefits is worthwhile— others don’t.Life is short, yes, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices if you want to eat.
