Why Do We Regret The Amount Of Time We Put Into Our Games

How do I stop regretting gaming a lot in my free time? Should I stop gaming?

I'm gonna start this off with 6 screenshots of the most recent questions you asked on Quora:From what I can gather from these I could only assume that:You're a teenagerYou're a pretty hardcore gamerYou're struggling at schoolYou're unhappy with your life. The word “depression” and “depressed" appeared a total of 5 times. Words having to do with games happened on a higher frequency.Look man, I'm just gonna be straight with you. I think that gaming could just be a form of escapism for your problems. I highly doubt that it contributes to your unhappiness. Perhaps you've played so much of the same game that it lost its ability to engross you and help you forget your problems. Buying a new game would merely prolong this cycle. If you think that you have depression, GET YOURSELF CHECKED. Depression is a serious issue and if you do have it your life could be in danger. By checked I don't mean doing dodgy online questionnaires, I mean getting checked by a trained medical professional. The school counselor may be a good place to start. Asking strangers on Quora on whether gaming could help you does absolutely fuck all if you are convinced that you have depression. You know yourself best. Also if it turns out that you don't have depression, you may just be addicted to video games, in which case would be a better problem to have than the former. The solution would be what some have suggested here already, by selling all of your hardware and getting a new hobby. The people I know who are addicted however, don't seem to regret gaming though.TLDR: Yes you should stop if it makes you feel like crap. If unhappiness persists, you know the issue is something else.

Do you regret introducing your children to video games?

Not my child(ren), but my little brother. And no. No no no. No. Not in the slightest. Not at all. Nope.Okay, maybe as an indie game developer looking to study game development at Columbia Chicago and be a professional eSports player for about 5 different games who also finds the time to create his own, amazing, original video games, I’m a bit biased. Maybe. But the hand-eye co-ordination, association, word/number/letter recognition and thinking/reasoning skills he’s gained from playing video games for about a year are priceless. Invaluable. He wouldn’t be the smart, snarky, funny, cultured kid he is today without video games. But most importantly, he’d miss out on a form of communication and connection shared my me, my other brothers and my dad. We’re all hardcore gamers (dad was) and will never cease to be. The connection we share through video game culture is something that we’ve lovingly passed on to our kid brother. Something that he’ll grow up with and foster and undoubtedly let his children inherit.Oh yeah, and he’s pretty dang good at Splatoon 2.

How do u live with regret?

if you choose to live with regret its because you're either in *if only* mode or you're too frightened to go out and do what it is that needs to be done, whether its putting right a wrong or fulfilling a dream

the only way to deal with regret is to tackle it. so if i've messed up I will apologise, do what i can to put things right and learn from that mistake.. if its a dream i want to follow - i'll follow it one way or the other

How do I stop regretting not spending enough time with parents?

The best way to go about it is stopping for a while, having a me-time, and remembering, ‘’It’s not too late.’’As mentioned in one of the answers, you should not stop something that you enjoy doing, since at the end of the day, it will make you unhappy. Also, it’s great that at 15, which is a very. very young age, you have realized that you must spend some time with your parents rather than playing games all the time. So when the realization has already dawned in you, you can easily strike a balance between these two agendas and make the bottom line a win-win situation.A day has 24 hours, and trust me, if we want, we can always make time for what we care about, by setting our priorities straight.Parents don’t expect much from us, except good behavior and sometimes good grades. So while you do devote your time to gaming, which is something you enjoy, make it a point to at least spare 1–2 hours for your parents, and just talk to them. Share with them what you feel, what you want, and ask them about their side of the story too.Familial bonding is precious and so is our own happiness, and truth is, both the things are not too different, since at the end of the day, both makes us happy! :)So, since it’s not too late, all the best!
