Why Does Alcohol Make Me So Sleepy It Didn

Does drinking alcohol help you sleep?

More accurately, it turn ON the part of your brain that calms you down. There is an alcohol receptor site on the GABA receptor complex. When you have an anxiety disorder the pills you take do the same thing. People tend to drink towards the end of the day when adenosine has already been working (which is blocked by caffeine) and histamines are starting to wear away (anti-histamines like allergy pills make you tired because histamines make you awake).

So there's your crash course in the science of sleep. Yes, alcohol may make you tired and sleep but it's ability to slow down and cloud higher thinking as well as body functioning and sleep/wake systems would make it a bad choice as a sleep aid for a test. If you have a good bit of time try to exercise. The movement of muscles is what makes adenosine which is what makes you sleep. By working out just a little you are making your own natural sleeping pills inside your body.

It has anesthetic properties. It absorbs in the cns but not as much as halogenated hydrocarbonsThe anesthetic gasses are structurally somewhat similar but are halogenated( chlorine, Florine, bromine. Etc but, have no oh- group .They are extraordinarily dissolved in brain. Like I say ethanol has some similarity, their in the chance of overdose with similar effects. Deep enough anesthesia result in cardio/ respiratory arrest. small amounts make you tired.A small amount of alcohol may be ok, but milk or orange may be a better decisionGoogle Maps

weed is known to be a drug to help people relax like Bob Marley and Snoop Dogg does, effects depending if it is indica or sativa, or a hybrid. Alcohol is a substance which intoxicates your body, causing you to get drunk.Weed can cause depressed moods, if used in long term use. Research shows adolescents who use cannabis daily is five times more likely to develop a form of depression or anxiety in later life (source:Cannabis and mental health).Alcohol is a depressant, which means that it can disrupt balance, thoughts, feelings and actions. Having a few drinkies can cause you to feel more confident and euphoric, yes, but realize that this happens because of the chemical reactions in your brain. Too much booze can make you more likely to be negative, since after a lot of alcohol it can cause more chemical reactions in your brain affecting the brain more(source:Alcohol and mental health). Also take into account that each individual reacts differently to alcohol and weed. (interesting article relating to the mix of both weed and alcohol:What Mixing Weed and Alcohol Does to Your Mind). If you want a little scare/biased and telling you off type article, here is one about the dangers of mixing the two:The Dangers of Combining Alcohol and Marijuana. Personally I don’t think that article was useful, it didn’t have factual and scientific stuff in it. Here’s a little more of the same type thing:What Happens When You Mix Alcohol And Weed?. And then just becasue, the daily mail:Smoking cannabis while drinking alcohol intensifies the high. Check the comments in that incase you want to remember that handy phrase “Grass then beer, you're in the clear. Beer then grass, you're on your ass!”(excuse the French).Hope that’s the answer you were looking for! :)

Alcohol with sleeping pills?

I have that problem too.
I stay up for 1-2 days at a time without any legal or illegal stimulants (not even hidden caffeine sources).
I didn't bother telling doctor b/c I was focused on heart problem which doctor could not figure out. Then she asked, "Are you sleeping regularly." To which I laughed & replied, "Not since I was 12 y.o. !"

She tried the regular sleeping pills like Ambien, Restoril & something else. Nothing worked. She moved to an atypical-anti-psychotic with a heavy sleep side effect (if not psychotic). It works. Too well. I sleep 10-12 hours. I can afford to do that being unemployed. You'd might need to cut some activity out of your day.

It's called Seroquel. 100mg. tablets. She Rx's that I take 300mg. 1st night just to knock me out for a day & give my heart rest. Once rested, I am to take 100mg. at bedtime. That didn't work for me, but I noticed it will take effect 1-3 hours B4 bed.

Even still, it's hard for me to take on a regular basis b/c I am used to the days running together & I forget to take it at 9:P like I should. (Alarm clocks not an option for reasons to long to list here.)

My ward takes 300mg. upon rising & before bed time. And she functions all day long & has trouble sleeping b/c she is using it for main Rx reasons.

You might have better luck with Rx since you are already used to (self)medicating nightly for sleep. Talk to your doctor about this option. At doesn't make me "high" or "mind altered." I just will gradually feel the need for sleep creeping on me until it's very heavy and ... must find bed.

It's not addictive "fun" drug. So if you truly want sleep I'd recommend asking doctor for Rx as long as you quit the other stuff & let your body detox. Then in time, you can regulate to sleeping on your own after "learning" how with the Seroquel.

Is it ok to take sleeping pills after drinking alcohol if you didn't drink that much?

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!

1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.

2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.

The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.

After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net

Ohhh..and Good Luck!

What a double edged sword going on here. Regardless, you asked a legitimate question and deserve some ranting of a certified lunatic.Personally, i hate the intoxicating effects of alcohol, plus grew up as a child of an alcoholic father, so I'm a bit biased but understand the medicinal effects of alcohol also.Alcohol has a bad effect on your sleep, according to someone out there. It doesn't allow for good REM restorative sleep. Some people sleep like babies under the influence, but I was always the other type. Sick and hungover, and I didn't sleep until that junk had been filtered and expelled from my body, oh how I hated alcohol, but it was part or the scene. The game. One usually fucks everything up good on a regular basis with alcohol. You still believe in your heart that next time, you get drunk you're gonna do it right once and for all but it never happens.Alcohol is a trap when it comes to sleep. I don't sleep well even with small amounts of alcohol.Sleeping pills work best for me. It depends on rhe type of compound prescribed. Barbiturates? Benzodiazepines? Anti-histamines? Anti-depressant?Work with your Dr. Let them know if its too much or your still playing ceiling games all night. Unfortunately, some people can't make it through a night without their Ambien or other modern sleep programming subatances.Moat all of these indicate short term use, even the antidepressants but that's what you can get back out of that world.Between alcohol or pills for sleep? Pills all the way. Taken properly and only when the patient is in bed and ready to sleep, then the pills ahould br administered.Even though i prefer a pill, taken for long periods of time, becomes no different rhen a couple shots of alcohol , it quits working as well and you increase the dosages. That works for a short stint. The danger with the pills is especially the dosages. One isn't feeling the effects they were, desperation aets in for sleep and that leads to an increase in alcohol or increase in sleeping medicine. That's where the danger is brewing strong.Insomnia is a legitimate condition. Some of the mildest thing work for some. Others can't find relief under anesthetic.Alcohol is just too problematic and would be my latter choice. I'm not a drinker but I liked the relief that a few pills could give, and usually without the vicious hangover alcohol would cause.

First of all: it isn’t really a high. It’s more a low.Very, very low.I had plenty of high throughout my life: the diazepam/alcohol combination was the worst. And I’m not a virgin when it comes to self medication.Second: the diazepam didn’t do its job as supposed. It was supposed to calm me down, make me smooth and sleepy, give me some rest. That was what I hoped for at least.Rest was needed very much: I was in an abusive relationship with a truly frightening… asshole.I didn’t know how to get out.I asked my doctor for something. Doctor was always very willing when it came to prescriptions; he was a fan himself. So I took the valium. And to go sure, I drank some beer, probably a couple of Whiskeys, too.I don’t really remember what I said or did, but one thing I remember clearly: I was as aggressive and frightening as I never have been before in my life. And never after. It was spooky.I felt an incredible rage. You might call it even bloodthirst.I still knew you shouldn’t kill people, but that was merely conditioning.Apart from that, I would have happily swung my ax and chop off a head or two.Abusive asshole became…quiet. That day, at least. When I talked to drug doctor about this, he shrugged and said yeah, some people react like that.Seriously: it really, really, really isn’t a good combination, not worth the risk.Believe me.Blood Thirst Zombie

Why is alcohol making me tired now, when it didn't before?

When I used to drink and party or go out with friends I would have a very good buzz, be hyper active, and handle myself very well for the night while being a great mood.

Recently, I've just been getting REALLY sleepy when I drink. I don't ever feel buzzed and when I hit that point I get very tired and get a slight headache.

Also though, the places where I've been drinking haven't been the "party environment"
The last places I went drinking when I got sleepy/tired/cranky:
A play in Hollywood, out to dinner and to a hooka bar, The Improv to see stand up comedians, and at a friends house.

My sister said it might be because I was sitting down not really doing anything so it didn't enhance my buzz, therefore I probably got bored and tired a lot faster.

Could that be it?
And how is it that people can have a drink or two with dinner? I tend to get very sleepy doing that and don't see a point in drinking unless it's to get drunk or get a very good buzz going.

Nyquil didn't put me to sleep?
